| Intamin Impulses
Hey, I went to Valleyfair recently and I rode Steel Venom, and I think it's a decent ride. But then in various roller coaster books, they say that coasters like V2 at SFGAM and Steel Venom at GL are the best. I think V2 at SFMW looks awesome, but people say it's average. What makes them so good?

I don't particularly like the impulsees. As a girl, the OTSR's aren't very forgiving to me. Actually SV at GL hurt like hell. The launch sounds like 30 teenage girls screaming all at once, and to be honest they break down so easily too.

First I wonder what year the books were written. I don't kiss the behind of any new genre. I've only been on the nontraditional models such as Wicked Twister and the unique modified SFMW V2 model. I'm not crazy about them at all. If anything it has made me question whether other flat rides like "Ring of Fire" would now be considered rollercoasters.

I think they are some of the most incredibly boring "coasters" around.

I thought that V2 at SFMW was very exciting actually :/ But your right Katie I seriously thought thats what it was. Then they ran it without anyone on it and it was STILL loud. I think they are fun rides though.

I don't think impulses are boring. I think a twisty vertical spike, and a few launches is pretty cool. I like them. They aren't exactly the most elaborate coasters, but they're decent.

I've been on a few Impulse coasters, and while they are fun, their re-rideability factor decreases rapidly with each and every spin you take on one.

I really love Wicked Twister. It's a unique ride. IMO it's my favorite kind of shuttle. Great Launches, twisting, and really nice airtime. What's not to like about that?

I've been on 3- V2 at SFGAM, SV at GL (when it was S:UE), and WT. My favorite was V2, it felt the most forceful, and I liked the holding brake/rear twist on WT about the same. I really like impulses. They are short, and I can see them not being friendly to girls, but in front and back rows are quite thrilling. I prefer B&M inverted coasters to them, but for short adreniline rushes they do their job well.

There's no way Wicked Twister can be boring.

OH yes it can! I thought Chicago's V2 was even worse though - weak launch, two boring spikes, and like Chris said, it has horrible re-ridability IMO. Heck by the time the train is going up the front spike the second time, I'm ready to get off.

I think part of the thrill is the structural absurdity of the ride. The first time riding GP probably think the ride is pushing the limits that the structure is on verge of collapse. There's far less support pieces but I'd rather ride a working Premier.

Is that an inversion on V2 @ SFMW?

I love impulses. They're a lot of fun. Actually, SV at VF! is my favorite out of the four I've ridden (Wicked Twister, V2 at SFGAM, SV at GL, SV at VF!). Its location is really good, and the launch seems a little more powerful. Also, if you ride in the front row at night, you have the opportunity to be completely blinded by a floodlight. ![]() Bowserjoe will probably throw a fit, but Wicked Twister is by far the most boring of the impulses I've ridden. The launch has next to no power and the backwards twist isn't nearly as cool as the split-second stop.

| WELL IF A COASTER SHOW SAYS IT IT MUST BE RIGHT!!! Like that show with SFMMs Viper.. and they talk about its "3 corkscrews" Or that show made in 2003.. Where they talk about how "one of a kind" the SLC is.... OR that show that talked about how smooth Hypersnoic XLC is because of its wheels... Last edited by James; 10-13-2006 at 12:45 PM. |

And sure I like to believe everything the tv tells me. FOX News is fair and balanced.I believe it's an inversion on SFMW's V2. I thought I sank into my restraint through it.

Wild4Coasters - Really? The bugs on the night of my front row night ride were out of hand, but I didn't get any. The bigger problems were Wild Thing and RipCord (you have no idea how uncomfortable it is to have bugs in your eyes and no way to shoo them off). My front row night ride on MF was amazing. We were pelted by bugs. It was really painful, but absolutely hilarious.

Wow, flamefest! lol. So, I definitely don't understand why people don't think that WT is that good of a coaster...or maybe its just Steel. I love WT because of the extra launch that takes you to 72 mph. If you ride in the front row, you get the best seat in the house.

WT's launch is BORING. There's no power to it. It's like 0-30 in five seconds. And yes, I have ridden in the front row and it's no different. Also, the back twist is pointless. It's way more fun to be looking straight down, and the stop is priceless. More than likely, I have this opinion because Top Thrill Dragster is in the same park. Bowserjoe and James - It would be great if you would stop flaming before you start. This thread does not deserve to be locked.

I agree that the launches are boring, but I think the holding brakes are stupid too. I don't think Wicked Twister is that good either... and Linear Gale must be a real yawner. BTW I don't know who appointed you guys mods or how someone can interpret what James has said here as a flame but I think its best we leave both of those sort of things to the people who are responsible for that |
