World's Fastest Coaster coming to Germany~ 134.8mph

New world premiere coaster at the Nürburgring

Imagine accelerating from 0 to 217 km/h (134.84 mph) in only 2.5 seconds -- faster acceleration than a Formula 1 car. You can experience this amazing launch, the fastest in the world, starting in 2009 at the Nürburgring.

Acceleration more powerful than on any race car: "Racecoaster" offers a more authentic version of this experience than any other. The strained feeling before the start, the rising adrenaline, the driver being pushed back into his seat as the traffic light turns to green and the race begins. This is what the race car driver must experience at the beginning of each event - and so can the visitors to the Nürburgring experience on this spectacular coaster that catapults them to 217 km/h (nearly 135 mph). In comparison, a Formula 1 car accelerates to this speed in about 5 seconds, twice as much time as is needed on "Racecoaster." This will be the quickest acceleration and greatest speed of any coaster ever built, launched or otherwise.

Direct along the starting line and home stretches of the Nürburgring race track, this coaster is a unique, unbelievable, yet real experience. Nowhere in the world exists a coaster built directly next to a race track, nor one that travels at such speeds. After the passengers enter through a railway station in the new indoor attraction, Racecoaster's launch runs parallel parallel to the Grand Prix stretch on the race track, with its starting point aligned to the starting line of the track. Here, the vehicle accelerates to its top speed of 217 km/h, travels 480 meters (1574.8 ft) along the race track then sharply curves to the left. The coaster's route leads back through the Boulevard and ends again in the railway station. Each of the coaster's two four-car vehicles is capable of transporting eight passengers. Altogether, the coaster travels 1.2 kilometers (3937.01 feet) in its adrenaline-packed course.

The coaster will be manufactured by leading coaster builder S&S Power. "S&S Power is one of the most experienced companies in the field of compressed-air launched coasters, with extensive experience in its field," explains Dr. Walter Kafitz, principal director of the Nürburgring GmbH. "The components of the coaster are designed to meet the German TÜV-standard, the German industry standard (DIN), and the European standard (E)." The compressed-air launching system allows for the highest speeds and acceleration, is highly reliable, and consumes little energy.

I read about this on Screamscape but thought I'd just let someone else post it. The layout isn't much obviously but with speed like that, I want to go to Germany!

I guess Xcelerator is losing its title as the fastest acceleration on a coaster, 0-82 in 2.something seconds.
Before anybody mis-reads it, I'm saying fastest ACCELERATION, NOT fastest coaster...unless of course there is another coaster that has a quicker acceleration than that.

Awesome. Let the coaster wars begin again. You know Cedar Fair or Six Flags will attempt to one-up this coaster in a few years cause America just lost the record.

Thats why i would rather wait 2-5 years and ride something faster than that here in the states then go to Germany.

The cars look simply amazing. Awesome design.

Best part is no OTSR!!!!

And it's right next to the F1 circuit. That thing is wicked. Well, you can see it in person later this year when the F1 race airs!

I wonder how much construction will be completed when the race airs.

Thats cool, but why Germany? Well, we are spoiled with coasters in the US, so I guess that it cool they finally get something with a record title. But just like Carowinds 73-03 said, dont be surprised if Cedar Fair or Six Flags comes out with something Faster and/or taller in the next 5 years.

I just realized that this coaster was announced in November of 2007. I'm suprised it took 2 months to reach TN.

Interesting looking ride. Does it mention the height anywhere, or is it just a round circuit.

Dodonpa accelerates much much faster than Xcelerator... 0-107 in 1.8 seconds.

I'd hope this has some kind of hills or slopes somewhere, but either way it'll definately be a thrill, and a very safe one too relative to actually racing the cars.

It's also the fastest coaster. 134.8 mph is faster than 128 last time I checked.
And someone els already corrected you on your acceleration stats .

Vedved82491 was talking about Xcelerator, not the Nürburgring coaster. Xcelerator is not faster than 128 mph.

KK is the fastest coaster to date at 128 mph. Unless someone knows something I don't. Dragsters accelleration is awesome, this is ridiculous... Also, I noticed it is not opening until 2009 What is going to take it a year and a half to build?

Actually, Dodonpa at Fuji-Q park in Japan currently has the fastest rate of acceleration on any coaster.

0 - 107 mph in 1.8 seconds.

Compare that to Xcelerator's 0 - 82 mph in 2.3 seconds.

I think what you meant to bring up was Xcelerator's ability to sustain all of its acceleration forces all the way down the launch due to several design factors special to this coaster (while most, to all other launch coasters lose most of it halfway into the take-off). But that's something entirely different.

I don't think it's going to take that long to build. I think they just announced the coaster and most likely won't start construction until later this year.

I, too, am hoping for a few hills (I say that like I'll ever get the chance to ride it). Then again, they want to simulate a real racecar so they probably won't. But, if it in fact has no hills then let me be the first to be anal retentive and say this is not a coaster as I believe a coaster must have at least one point where gravity takes effect rather than coasting on a single, initial launch. I don't say this to diminish the ride's accomplishments; it is still the fastest thrillride and I am still jealous that it isn't in the states. So, what do you think? Based on your personal definition, coaster or no?

Also, why Germany? 'Cause they paid for it. Pony up the dough and you can have one in your backyard.

I'm still hopeing to see some renderings before i even know but it still looks cool hills or no hills although if is it to simulate a race car then i would hope it would have some massive banking turns but then again the look of the cars shows it just like Dragster but a much nicer design.

It might not stay on the ground. This could be an S&S copy of TTD/KK.

If it was going for the height record (in a KK or TTD type layout) I'm sure they would have mentioned it. Based on what the release says its an incredible launch, straight, turn, straight, done. The launch sounds insane, but honestly if what the release says is the whole thing, just the launch and one turn, I doubt its going to be TOO insane of a coaster. Take KK and do the launch but instead of a 450ft hill, turn. I dunno, the launch will be great I'm sure, buts its deffinitely a "one trick pony".

I'm glad to see S&S isn't using those ridiculous tires anymore.....

Same here. I hated the tires. It really didn't do much in the way of a smoother ride.

We'll maybe it will be super banked turn like almost inverted or basically somewhat inverted.

It will be a one trick pony but then again so was TTD & KK.

I have been saying this for years but i really wish either TTD or KK had about an extra 2,000ft of track doing something more intresting that a 15 sec heart attack.

Yeah deffinitely. I enjoy the thrill of getting that high in the air, but I'd rather see a more complete coaster experience like El Toro or Nitro or something.

I hope something comes along soon and makes TTD & KK short lived. I think some park will do alot more with the Intamin Strata concept.

Given the US amusement industry nowadays in the foreign market was where I could only see this happening. Due to my dislike for Hypersonic, I won't acknowledge this ride until it's built and running. For me it's all talk now.

But also, this isn't at an amusement park, it's at some racetrack. It's a cool idea in my opinion: The worlds fastest coaster is hidden within buildings. It would be cool if it did some Maverick/El Toro like curves after the turnaround

From 0 to 217 km/h in 2.5 seconds, that is a 2,4 G launch! :O And the cool thing it, it is relatively close by In comparison to the US, Germany is much nearer from here.

To compare,
Quote:
Dodonpa [....] 0-107 in 1.8 seconds.
217 km/h = 60.2 m/s, done in 2.5s gives 24.1 m/s^2 acceleration
107 mph = 47.8 m/s, done in 1.8s gives 26.5 m/s^2 acceleration
As far as I calculate, Dodonpa's launch is just a little bit faster...

If the article is right about the launch of the new race coaster being the fastest, then the 2.5 seconds is an over-estimate and should in reality be a bit less, and the difference will be minimal anyway. Stated differently, people who have ridden Dodonpa often enough and know how the launch feels, won't notice any difference except for the fact that it lasts a little bit longer :P

If S&S is building the train, then I think I'll pass.

Hyperpain XLC is just that...a pain. Or I should say was a pain.

^ Have to agree with you there, Wes. I know this is assuming too early, but based off of XLC, I'm not exactly impressed with it at all. I'm hoping that since the time that XLC was built, they have improved on their technology. If not, then I'm pretty sure this coaster will be a pain and out of service as much as XLC was. Ok, NOW folks can bash me for my comments.lol

A coaster at the Ring? I wonder how I didn't already know about this. This place was already on my list of places to visit in Germany, and now even more so...

Good News, Screamscape is reporting that the trains are not going to be built by S&S.
