SFGADV to give Medusa an X2-style makeover

Looks like X2 set off a little trend within the Six Flags chain.

Six Flags Great Adventure plans to give their Medusa coaster a complete head-to-toe makeover, with special fire, water and fog effects, an audio system...and most likely a new name. The article mentions the last time to ride Medusa with its original Greek mythology theming and name is through the final days of Fright Fest.

More details will be released as Spring 2009 approaches.

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/stor...F46}&dist=hppr

This comes on the tail of Six Flags New England announcing a similar "transformation" of Superman Ride of Steel, featuring fog, fire, and new vehicles.

Medusa's Revenge? - I really like the name Medusa for the coaster as well as the color it was now.. I hope the "upgrade" isnt really a downgrade in the long run.

How about calling it SFGADV? When we talk about the whole complex: Safari, Hurricane Harbor, SFGADV and the excess NJ acreage, SFNJ is fine.

Hydra is so out of league to Medusa in NJ that I don't think it's worthy to further link Medusa to Revenge like Hydra is. I'm glad the Medusa t shirt came back these last two seasons and that I got one. It's my favorite full circuit looper in the Northeast and much of the US. It's paint scheme is ingenious in choice proven by how well it's held up. The lime is so neon even 10 years later.

Because SFGADV is a little too excessive of an acronym, at least to me. You know what I meant by SFNJ.

Anyone think the new name will be Terminator? :|

And you could have just used "Gadv"

I agree when I typed SFGAd in a Six Flags Great America Forum, they thought I typed SFGAm.

Just add the "V" to complete the job. It's the East Coast version: SFGADV. SFMM always gets its full mention so I was just thinking it's a two way street in acceptance. SFNJ would have its full exemplified meaning if the new hotel would have went through but that's off the menu. We hardly talk about the Safari here. Has there ever been mention of it besides GASM's old loop top for the baboons or TR mentions? I might as well mention the rest of SFNJ. Hurricane Harbor is fine in my book but is still lacking a major new slide or Tornado. I guess it's getting the same SFA ride side treatment but I'm not crying about it. The sign front on Rt 537 South almost changed to SFNJ with "Great Adventure" removed in 2003-2004 I would like to say but the name came back to the sign. I suppose it's because the hotel didn't come through to bring completeness to a resort atmosphere. We could mention SFNJ if they sell that whole huge chunk.

The article didn't mention the name of the adjusted ride experience really. I would have been cool with just the same colors and using the remaining money for a new flat.

James, it could be a possibility. With an new name, fog, fire, water and audio effects, SFNJ could easily tie in a Terminator theme like SFMM's new wood coaster in time for the Terminator Salvation release next summer.

It's too bad there's no room on a floorless train for Terminator machine red eyes. El Toro has that whole beast look complete on the front of the train. I take pride in Medusa's nice grass infield so I wouldn't want to mess with that particularly when Scream is on the totally other end of the spectrum at SFMM.

What if Riddler's Revenge got "Ecuador" onboard with little spinning hypnotizing discs? That would just make it more loony.

Sounds like a fun idea. I'm also starting to wonder if it will be called Terminator next year as well. This coaster would fit the theme alot better than the SFMM coaster.

^ I completely agree. However, I rather like the name Medusa for that coaster. But either way, this update to the coaster is welcome. Can't wait for the additional details.

Maybe they'll have stuff in the preview center like they did for Toro, Ka, SUF, and other projects. I'll check this weekend when I go.

Fire effects and speakers and such all feel like such lame additions to a ride. meh... Its fine the way it is.

It is fine as is.. but new paint will be good... And maybe the new stuff wont take away from the ride as it is now.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like the name Medusa and think it should stay that way. As far as changes to the ride, a nice new paint job and new trains with seats that don't have the OTSR chewed into is good enough for me. Call it day. Although adding fog and MAYBE a tunnel to the ride would be pretty cool. But other than that, I think it is fine the way it is.

It looked like the blue might be a primer and not the final color. Only time will tell right now.

I think Medusa's popularity has suffered as a result of location, rather than any defects of the ride itself. You want popularity to go up? Put a flat ride or five near it.

I can't imagine any of these changes hurting it, unless they include trim brakes and a bad name. It certainly needed new paint and has for a while now.

^Man, don't mention that stuff. No jinxes.

The primer was mentioned on another site for park fans. I remember when B:TR was painted I thought they were using white/gray primer. The blue is new to me.

They sometimes use darker colors as primers for darker colors of paint.

It's got some blue primer then. They would never, never, never turn that ride into Scream!

Screams colors would just be the same as Nitros.. only in a different order.

Scream!'s purple is a stretch to NITRO's magenta.

So all we would need Medusa to do is have an irritating horn go off every time it dispatches...

Thanks for the false hope medieval. hehe The supports better make up for this. I hope for an orange for a inverted Dominator paint job but I don't want a reminder of the New York Mets team colors. What do I want? I wonder what the surprise other color will be.

Some new photos have arrived of the Medusa make over.. Thanks to Flyin Phil Flyin Phils Photos - Aerial Photos Here is the gallery of the latest photos taken yesterday. Six Flags Great Adventure "Medusa" Coaster Enhancement - November 29, 2008
Love the blue but not so sure about the purple supports. I wonder if the purple is going to get painted or if that is the way its going to be.. Anyway looks pretty good.

I was wondering when my homepark savior Flying Phil would come to our off season rescue. I would guess the supports don't look painted. I'm hoping that because I wouldn't like the pairing. The blue is good depending on the ride's name and upcoming support colors.
