200th post!
M-Bars Sound really annoying in that case! Kind of like total leg immobilization. Move towards the middle and you hit the ceter T part, move towards the outside and you hit the U part. Whenever I'm on SROS my knees are further apart than my feet because of the stupid u bar. Kind of makes you feel like a duck...Then, the ankle restraints push your ankles backwards, so you knees are further forwards than your feet as well.
Also it would be kickbutt if they left the trains like they are in that pic! Talk about an open feeling. Of course that will never happen...

^The M-bars are what they have now, haven't you ridden it?

^^And I don't think the T-bar was really modified that much, except for the electronic sensor instead of a visual one.

Oops I forgot lol... OF COURSE I've ridden it! just kinda hazy as it has been a while (early last year.)...

A sensor would be enough to prevent the fat person problem, the problem wasn't that the restraint was ineffective, it was that it was only effective if put down a certain distance. Befor the sensors, they couldn't verify that it was far enough down to be safe. The sensors pretty much solve that problem. Maybe they don't want to reuse them because of bad experience / public image? Not that a GP would notice "Hey look T-Bars! These killed someone!!"...

Superman has a T bar with the sense rand ankle restraints.

As for the GP noticing likely not they know the coaster killed a man not the restraint. It's the MA government they have to worry about.

It has an M-bar, which is a modified T-bar. It's the original restraints, with modifications.

Some news, a photo of the trains has been released.
Six Flags considers bankruptcy - MassLive.com

Not much of a fan of the purple or the head rest/ speakers.. Would be a better ride with out music... Oh Well..

I'd prefer to maintain the views of stadium seating instead.

Leave it to Six Flags to screw up an already perfect ride, those speakers are just another thing to go wrong so they can shut the ride down.

I used to think that if the sound went out on X2 they would just keep cycling trains to keep the line moving, but nope. I've waited an extra 1/2 hour so mechanics can get the sound going again, and really, its not that much better with it.

I'll wait till the final product, but so far I'm not impressed with this facelift.

I hate the look in these new trains. The head rests are way too big. why do they need speakers that big.

^ If you've ever been on a roller coaster with on-board audio, you'll know that a heavy sound-system is very much needed to make the effect work.

Roller coasters cruising a track and its riders are LOUD. Two speakers on each side of the head ensures that you're listening to the intended audio program, not your screaming fellow passengers and the whooshing of the wind at 60 mph.

I listened to the circus music at the launch on California Screamin but I don't think I particularly paid attention to it later in the ride through the semi tunneled parts.

Your still going to hear other noise. Head rests are not going to help the coaster whether there are speakers or not.

Why would you want to ensure that? I would much rather listen to the wooshing / screaming than a speaker blaring cheezy soundtrack at me.

Well, at least they're using Toro style U-bars instead of the lame M-bars. Although T-bars would be the best. I don't think they look too bad. It's just different that's all.

I really don't care of the new head rests... good or bad. Seriously, it won't make much of a difference in terms of the ride quality. You should all be thankful that it still has lap bars. Besides, that extra weight *MIGHT* add a little bit of speed on to the ride.

The new Trains were never goign to have Tbars. The old trains were grandfathered.

To SFA? Cause that park could use SFNE's trains... much better condition than SFA's are currently in...

Have you been on a roller coaster with on-board audio before? Just answer that. I don't see how you would know if you haven't.

Wow, so much purple... I still can't believe SF thought, "hey, we have the number one steel roller coaster in the entire world... I know, lets "improve" it!"

Those trains look ridiculous... Those headrest/speakers are monstrosities that are going to kill any view the stadium seating ever gave. I can't wait to have another perfectly good roller coaster ruined by on-board audio. STOP THE ONBOARD AUDIO NON-SENSE!!! Seriously, its just obnoxious. I really wish parks would freaking stop this idiotic gimmick...

At least they have better lap bars now. If SFA got a "new" pair of trains out of it I guess this deal has its plus sides.

Obviously a bunch of enthusi-ass clowns will never let Six Flags live this one down. Just like El Toro, people will not rate this coaster high because they don't want it to be high, not because it's not good. I'm sure the coaster could be just as good as before, but if people hate it before it even opens, just like people hated El Toro saying it's not even wooden and all that nonsense, then yea, it won't be the best coaster in the world anymore.

Chris L - there has to be a better way of doing it. having them on the lapbars for example.

PANTSFREE - not sure if you will see new trains. but instead of a real ride you might see a superman changeover in 2010.

Lets see, we're talking about the coaster that has been consistently voted the #1-3 steel roller coaster in the world since opening (mostly #1) and resides atop most enthusiast top 10 lists (at least for steel rides). Now you paint it an idiotic color, give it a new theme, and throw on stupid looking speakers so you can have music blaring at you during the ride. What exactly am I supposed to be excited for? And what enthusiast try to rag on intamin prefabs? Balder, Toro, Colossos, and that new ride in asia who's name escapes me are all rated extremely highly by those who have ridden them...

You're being a touch on the over-dramatic side I think.

No, MF will never be better than this ride. MF blows.

Seriously though, there's no reason why the ride shouldn't be just as good when it closed. Well, besides the unobstructed view...

The ride is going to be just as good. If I could happen to ignore the audio halfway through riding California Screamin, I think I'll be alright with this ride. It would be really cool though if we do happen to have a helix tunnel with a supposed brainwashing sound effects to listen too. The clues are pointing towards that.

There is just too much over reaction in just this last page that I'm chuckling at all sides.

Give me a break. SROS is still going to be cooler after the additional possible ride effect tunnels. Kudos to El Barto.

I was just thinking back to my Jr high Science class when we were learning about sound and how it traveled. How Sound travels in one direction unless it is reflected. also that other sounds like Wind can counter that sound.

If the speakers were in front of you you would be traveling towards the sound not away from it and you should be able to hear it at a lower volume and at a better quality.

Now I night be wrong about it's practicality, but who knows.
