Your biggest 2008 park/coaster score?

I was wondering: What is your biggest, coolest amusement park/coaster gain of 2008?

For me I finally went to Lake Compounce for the first time ever this year after years of not being able to by either trying to maximize the value of my Six Flags pass and going to SFNE instead and not having the time. It looks like it was well worth it. I got a retracked Boulder Dash with the new triple up into the brake run, which I thought was awesome. I had a great first experience with the park. I heard reports that their Wildcat coaster has been riding better. Zoomerang even has that updated paint job.

This ranked higher for me than clinching all my missing coaster credits at WDW (except Primeval Whirl - who cares?), discovering the true meaning of Knoebels this year, going to Western NY and Erie for the first time coasterwise, scoring the closest credit to my house: Vapor Trail @ Sesame Place, finally getting Voodoo on a second Dorney visit, and saying goodbye to the awesome Laser portable Schwarzkopf coaster this year.

Returning to Hersheypark was definitely far from a big score.

Alas, the only new park I went to was Zoombezi Bay in Columbus, Ohio. I like what they have done and taken the old Wyandot Lake and made it better. But with gas being so friggin' outrageously expensive this past summer, I just made several trips to KI and CP.

No big scores in 2008 - only new coaster this year for me was Maverick, and, as shown by my signature, I was not that impressed with it.

Last "big score" was in 2006 when I managed to hit Six Flags over Georgia for the first time and got a credit on Goliath in it's inaugural year, along with all the other great coasters there ... except Deja Vu. Which won't be happening now, kinda wish I'd ridden while I was there, but it was always breaking down so I didn't bother with it.

The BIG score for me was not a coaster. It was Ghostwood Estate at Kennywood.I thought that it was an excellent addition to the park and was a great replacement for Gold Rusher.Another BIG score for me this year was seeing Halloweekends at CP.I had never gone at that time of year and it was very interesting!

The one member got Olympia Looping Coaster in Germany when he was there on some trip/exchange. That's a major score.

So thinking of gasoline. If I didn't do those string of visits I think I would have some good change towards a Honda Fit. I'm liking that ice blue with alloys.

I would have to pick, Led Zeppelin the Ride and a visit to Hard Rock Park. I got to ride the Zep the morning of the first Sound Check preview day. Coolest thing is the Led Zeppelin poster signed by the remaining 3 memebers of the band.. Well worth the price for the auction and the priviledge to be able to ride the Zep before anybody in the general public got to. Way cool...

My big score was Kennywood. I went on a trip visiting to KI, CP, HW, and KW, and of the two parks I hadn't been to before (HW and KW), KW was the biggest score. It's also the closest to my home area, so hopefully I'll be able to visit once in a while.

Why KW? Just had a really good time. I wasn't blown away by Voyage or Raven (Legend was closed), and that's really all HolidayWorld has to it if you're not a water park person.

Wow. I just read a Christmas town themed article in my paper's Travel section today. I knew my parents and sister had no idea of the weight/must visit status Santa Claus, IN has in the "off" season as Holiday World. With that visit summary, I'm not as sure. I am not a waterpark person.

Well.. Its kinda hard to top my unplanned last -second- trip to Disney last month. (Castle Suite anyone??)

But if you asked me this in October I think I would have said finally having made it out to Kennywood. A park I didnt think I would like at all.. And ended up really enjoying it. Thunderbolt and Revenge were both great rides.

I almost spoke for you James. I don't think that could be matched for that much of an exclusive. Not getting Kennywood til now? That's a big surprise.

Nothing major for me this year either. Maverick was the only new coaster for me this year.

The only new-to-me park I went to was Hard Rock Park, which I absolutely LOVED! I loved the whole "experience." The coasters, especially Led Zepplin, where a nice bonus.
I hope the best for the park, even if they have to sell it or come up with a better marketing campaign.

The only other new coaster "scores" I got were Ravine Flyer 2 at Waldameer, and Fahrenheit at Hershey. Both were amazing!

Otherwise I pretty much stayed local-ish this year.

I'd would have to say 2nd place for myself was riding Ravine Flyer II and Silver Comet in the same day. I don't think it ever gets any better with a combo. It's the best combination I've done yet with not having been to Holiday World or Indiana Beach.

Hard Rock Park - Hopefully it won't be one of those stories "I got to go there the only year it existed).

Though not very impressive, I made it to Quassy for the first time this year. I got 2 new coaster credits and 10 new ride credits. It was a very slow year for me.

In a year where I hit 9 "new to me parks".. it is a little hard to decide what my biggest "score" is...

My 9 "new" parks:

SFNE
Lake Compounce
Quassy
Waldameer
SFKK
Alabama Adventure
SFOG
Wild Adventures
Lake Winnie

If I really had to pick a "score" ... it would have to be Alabama Adventure. I say so because I really never have a friggin reason to go that way.... it is in a location that is so out of my normal travelling pattern. When ACE scheduled Rip Roaring Rampage there for the day before the Coaster Con started at SFOG, I figured that was my one and only chance to go.

Rampage ended up surprising me... quite a good coaster!

My new parks for the year were Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens Europe, Holiday World, Kennywood, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, and Coney Island.

All in all, not a bad year. Busch Gardens was awesome and I am not sure why I didn't make the four hour trip south sooner.

I see DelGrosso's in your list. Is their Arrow looper (formerly Revolution at Libertyland) on site yet? I haven't seen any word as to where it actually is (though I saw the trucks loaded up with track headed down I-40) or when it'll be set up and operating again.

Sadly I didn't get a whole lot of park in this summer. I went to MIA a few times So I added Thunderhawk to my count. However, I struggled to add it as a new count as I had ridden it when it was Serial Thriller at Geauga Lake.

My new park for 2008 was Six flags great adv. I absolutly loved it. Even tho KK was a let down, I still consider SFgreAdv my number 1 park. El toro was insane. Especially in the back, crazy airtime. Nitro was awesome too even tho I give the edge to AC but only by a pinch. Superman was great, very comfy and smooth, much better than the vekoma version. I even liked Great Am Scream mac. Everyone talked about how rough it was but I found it to be very enjoyable. The staff there was very nice and helpful and the food was pretty good too.

Before my big trip to Southern California in June, I had only been to Lagoon, Disneyland, and WDW. I definately got the most out of my Knott's visit, as a rode my fastest and tallest roller coasters there. Xcelerator was awesome!

P.S. Don't ride Ghost Rider alone in the first two rows. I can still remember the pain of hiting the hard coaster car back and forward.

I was only able to find 1 piece of track. And 2 or 3 cars. As far as I know back in March the park was still planing on adding it.. But I really don't see it happening. I was lucky enough to ride it at Libertyland in June of 2005.

That's when I first rode it too, that's kinda funny. June 05 is when I moved down to Memphis.

My new parks this year!
Indiana Beach - unfortunately pre-Steel Hawg
SFOG
Lake Winne...
Beech Bend

This is actually quite a toss-up between SFOG and Indiana Beach, but SFOG wins in the end. I was really looking forward to Goliath, Georgia Scorcher, and Agrophobia, but also enjoyed another Batman, and SUF, and the suprise was GASM. I also reached the 100 coaster mark during the SFOG visit. Didn't realize I was that close or I would have picked something meaningful, I really don't know which one was 100

Anyway, I look forward to a PA trip hopefully next summer, a possible 46 new credits!!!!!
