Found on Aceonline.org: Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain to Close For Rehab

Found this on Aceonline.org:

Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Florida will close on April 19 for a makeover that is likely to take a couple of months. Disney spokesperson Andrea Finger said it is expected to reopen late in the year, although a specific reopening date has not been set. The timetable means Space Mountain will be closed throughout the busy summer-travel season. The makeover includes some track replacement, a new ceiling inside of the dome, and a new enclosure for the ride’s queueing area. The layout of the track and the overall experience will remain the same. "We're retaining many of the classic elements that made Space Mountain a rite of passage at the Magic Kingdom that's been enjoyed by generations," Finger said.

I think it's more about opening it for comment rather than stating that some of us saw it on the Scape already. I'm just glad I got my first Space Mountain credit at either park this past Columbus Day. I don't see a clue yet it's Vekoma track going in like at Disneyland.

They already showed a map without a name or mention of the attraction in the Space Mountain building for 2009 like it's forgotten.

Rides go down for rehab all the time at Disney; nothing new or special about it.
Only thing different this time is that it's a little longer and some people won't get to ride it in summer.

It may also include altering the ride experience significantly, thats kind of a big deal... Well to me at least.

Rumors about this have been floating around for years, and I've always hoped they wouldn't change TOO much. I love Space Mountain, its a classic. Everything from the line, the music, the ride and its theming, I just hope it isn't changed too much. I'm expecting the worse, though. Just thinking back to what they did to Alien Encounter makes me incredibly nervous.

It could be a big change. I heard all the track would have to be replaced for the new trains which will have audio now.

I take it none of you read the part about "The ride layout and experience will remain the same"?
And couldn't they have come up with a better time to do this than during the summer? Seems dumb to me.

The ride can still remain the same with all new track & audio. I do agree that it seems like a waste. I could understand if it was getting the Disneyland makeover but it's not.

Well,in this economy, more parks are only doing "rehabs" and not new stuff. It make it seem like there's a whole new attraction to the average customer/visitor.It works.I'm sure that Disney is confident in the "rehab" of Space Mountain.
