If you've got the space, use it!

After viewing several videos of Son Of Beast, both with and without the loop, I say they need to use the open area on the right side of where the loop was to put in some element - maybe even another helix or two. There's all that room and the machine ends up sort of lame. What think ye? - and I don't want opinions of the ride, just suggestions for additions to it.

A tunnel would be nice, but a bunch of gas and a match would be better.

Well, if it were me designing the ride, I would have made the majority of the turns tighter so it would be faster, more intense, and cheaper due to less track being used.

Wait, why was the loop removed in the first place? I thought that "bad support" was somewhere else on the ride.

It was removed because they had to remove the heavy trains that were too much for the track.

The G trains will not traverse a loop, so the loop had to go.

At least that was my understanding.

They removed the loop so that lighter trains could be run. The removal of the loop and the cracked support seem unrelated, but the trains are the missing link. Edit - Wes beat me to it, but yes, he's got it right. The G trains can't handle the loop, and the old trains were too heavy and led to the cracked support.

As for the empty space? I say put in another coaster there and weave it through SOB's structure. Get some nice headchopper effects on both coasters and up KI's coaster count by 1.

Or, as a second and equally or more appealing option, tear down all of SOB except the first hill. The first hill is still amazing, it's the rest of the ride that's awful. Completely restructure it into a wooden twister ala Mean Streak or a terrain out and back like Boulder Dash, taking up a smaller footprint and allowing for another coaster to be put up next to it. Call it the Return of Beast, or pull a Kennywood and call it Beast's Revenge.

I doubt another element would even work, unfortunately. I recall that second helix being so slow at the highest point it felt like the train barely makes it through. I doubt it has enough speed to do anything else. The ride is so terrible, though, I suggest simply scraping the lousy contraption.

While there may be room there I don't think you will see them add anything to it. I doubt an extension woudl be all that marketable. Even if they made it the new longest coaster they already have the top 2 it wouldn't mean much.

I could see them expanding a new area of attraction into that area in the future though.

I think the best thing to put in any open spaces would be a bulldozer. There's no redemption for that coaster.

They'd have alot more space if they tore the whole thing down. The only good part of that ride is the first drop, and the restraints being released,

Wouldn't they have a record number of new worker bees this season to do it all in house?

I guess they're just going to stretch its lifespan to 10 years at least. Hopefully they pull the plug then.

Violakat, they could have made a smaller loop that the G trains could traverse through. Unless the forces would really be screwed up.

Why did they go with G trains. Especially if a light train Wouldn't function right.

How about Replacing the Ride Area after the Brake Run with a Bunch of Camelbacks and Twister Segments?

They got em on eBay!

Actually it was rumored that the trains came from the now defunct Hurricane.

They also ended up with spare G Trains from Geauga Lake (Villian, Wolf Bobs).

Yes, they came from Hurricane: Category Five at Myrtle Beach Pavilion. That looked like a fun ride, which I could have snagged a credit on it before it's demise.

Tanks4me - I'm guessing they were either too cheap to try and figure out how to make the loop work, or the G trains just cannot do a loop due to the forces. Like I said in another thread, I'm not an engineer. I just know the facts of what happened, not all of the whys.

The land clearing at Cedar Point is a big mystery. A rumor thread has started already.

Really? Find where I've said anything positive about Mean Streak. I'm pretty sure I've said fairly similar comments about Mean Streak lately as the years have gone by.

Of course if it were at a small park next to a user car lot, it would be the best ever.

Indeed. I just got back from a long weekend at the most indie city in America (ORLANDO) at the MOST indie parks of them all (DISNEY WORLD).

I thought Austin was the most indie city. Why would I want to keep talking about the junk that is SOB? :P I wouldn't touch in redesigning the old helix 2nd half after the new straightaway drop after the MCBR. It's just a place to recall how miserable I am with the ride.

Awww, did someone realize they didn't have a point they were trying to make? Next time, you want to try and tell me what I think about a park or coaster, how about getting your facts straight.

"Looked" like a fun ride is right. The last time I rode it, 2 weeks before it closed forever it was like being beaten by an ugly nurse high on Red Bull.

To its credit though, about 3 years before I rode it and pretty much loved it.

B&C must have said "Heck, we're gonna close the place, why maintain it????"

Why am I even mentioned? I was posting on topic and only responded to what James said. In fact, I never even said the word "indie" but rather only talked about Son of Beast and Mean Streak.
