Isn't that impossible? How would you keep the inverted part wet so that you would't burn your back?

I found this pic on another message board.

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THE PIC.

But here it is. It was in Action Park, one of the most unsafe water parks ever.

That looks like a very small loop! Wouldn't it hurt to go in such a tight loop?

They were, the park owners were criminals. Long story, don't ask.

They tore that slide down a few years ago when Action Park closed. It's now Mountain Creek, a much safer waterpark run by Intrawest.

I actually had the chance to ride that slide! It was a long time ago when we drove up to New York. We saw Phantom of the Opera (GREAT SHOW, I might add), and when it was over, we went to our hotel in Vernon. It was the big hotel at the bse of the mountain. Pretty nice...and we had planned going to Action Park. Anyways, we went, and when we arrived the next morning, the slide was closed. We stared at it like "What the heck?! A loop?!" Anyway, we did most of the park and on our way back down to the lodge, we noticed it was open. I volunteered to ride it, and it was a quite stupid choice.

It was horrible. The tube was very small and had no ventilation whatsoever. All you could smell was Chlorine and feel intense heat. Anyway, the loop os so small and the water is running so fast at the bottom of the drop that the water makes it around on one side. Well, I went down...gained a LOT of speed, hurt my back, hit the loop, got the most intense whiplash ever, went around the loop with more G's than a Flying Dutchman loop, and skidded into the splashdown pool. At least I can say I did it. Never felt the need to do it again.

Also, Action Park was an excellent waterpark! The slides were very creative and very well worked into the land...especially the Colorado River Run and the Sewer Slides. Colorado River Run is a FAST family raft. Sewer Slides are wide, single person tube slides that are open for the first half, and drop underground for the second half and has dripping water like a sewer. I loved the entire park except for the looping one.

Also, Action Park was considered the most dangerous because there were so many accidents when it was still Action Park. Their Cliff Dive was a literal cliff dive. You went up to a ledge, a lifeguard told you when it was safe, and you jumped 50 feet into a 15 ft pool below! The pool was also a huge swim area and people watched as people fell. Really great free-fall. Screw the SCAD Dive! This one has no harness to hold you in place. Still, the slides dropped into very deep water. Waterparks nowadays drop you into only 3 feet of water...but Action Park would splash down into 10 or more feet. That was the main problem. I want to make a trip back to see what Intrawest has done to the place. Also, they had an EXCELLENT Alpine slide...Intrwest took it out 2 years ago. I go Skiing at Mountain Creek at least once a year, and the ski runs are away from the waterpark, except for one. But that one passes about 5 slides and that's it. I couldn't see anything else.

Beltzie...you are right! I regret riding that thing because it hurt so much! At least I can say I did the only ever Looping Waterslide!

Also, at the base of the drop right before the loop, there is an escape hatch so that if you don't make it through, you can still get out.

A looping waterslide seems like a pretty cool concept. I don't think I'll ride it though.

That waterslide looked wild, but I can imagine it being quite painful, and I understand why none are built.

Can I just point out something to everyone?
Saturday, July 24, 1982 - A 15-year-old boy drowned in a wave pool at Action Park in McAfee, New Jersey.

Sunday, August 1, 1982 - In an accident at Action Park in McAfee, New Jersey, a 27-year-old man was killed after being electrocuted while on the Kayak Experience ride. Two other victims also suffered electrical shock and were hospitalized.
An investigation by the New Jersey Labor Department concluded that, although the ride's equipment was properly installed and maintained, an electrical problem existed in an underwater electrical fan system, used to simulate rapids. The current in the motor circuit of an underwater fan that churned the surface of the water had the potential to incur bodily injury under certain circumstances.
The investigation ultimately concluded that no safety laws or ride regulations were violated. A park spokesman said that the investigation had absolved the park of responsibility, claiming that there was no "proof" of mechanical failure.
The Kayak Experience was drained and closed after the incident.

Sunday, July 19, 1987 - An 18-year-old man drowned in a wave pool at Action Park in McAfee, New Jersey.

Just a few to name that I found. I wouldn't go on that slide not only because of the slide itself, but because of the park that it was located at. Hate to sound like Markey, but I knew what went on behind the scenes as well.

For all those who said you "knew what was happening" and that the owners were crooks, can you please explain?

I'm curious.

Ahh...okay. It's a really long story. Basically, this guy with the last name Moverhill or something, he owned and ran all of Vernon Valley/Great Gorge. This included the condos, ski resorts, spa, resteraunts, action park, and everything inbetween. My family owns a condo there, so from when I was very little I was aware of everything. Basically this guy and his son would steal all the money from the place. They would do half as**d repairs on things, cut corners (dangerously), and basically take money. Stuff like that. They did worse things but I don't feel like getting into a decades worth of stories. They went bankrupt, and intrawest took the place over. But under their ownership the place wasn't the most wonderful. Lots of things went on behind everyones back. I can't really get into it. Maybe I'll ask my dad to tell me the story again. It's long.

I'm just curious about that escape hatch. How could you stop to get out (without burning the skin on your hands or feet)?

If you didn't make it through the loop, you'd just valley out and keep getting slower and slower. Not too hard. But if you changed your mind halfway through the ride, well, sucks for you.
