SuperSteve's Super Site

http://www.superstevessupersite.com

It's a corny name, but I go by SuperSteve a lot, and it's what came to me... I made this site as a place for me to practice my lack of web design skills and to post articles on anything that interests me from theme parks to coding languages. I just got into web design and programming last summer, and I've done everything on the site by hand without the help of any software, with the exception of the Gimp to make a few modest graphics. The site is very basic, and at the moment only plays host to a few theme park galleries, my personal photos, and a handful of articles, but I'm gearing it up to be so much more. Starting now I plan to add new content about every 3 days at least, in the form of news, articles, photos, or whatever. I've just gotten into PHP and DOM, so expect to eventually see some more interaction and special features.

Really, the purpose of the site, other than being my little web design playground, is to play host to personalized news articles and editorials. I don't just report news, I try to put a bit of my own spin on it. Unfortunately, the way I set it up right now doesn't really make it easy for me to go into too much depth, but I'll fix it. I've only just started reporting news this week. In addition to theme park news and photo galleries, I also post articles on just about every other large scale issue that I come into contact with, everything from business to technology and especially politics. I haven't uploaded half of my work yet, but you can expect to see a whole lot more added to my site soon.

So, if you like opinion-oriented news reporting, my site will have loads of it.

If you have any questions, post here or e-mail me at supersteve@superstevessupersite.com

^Thanks

Yeah, I've been writing a bit today, I've added two articles: one on the sale of the 7 SF parks, and one on the U.S. invasion of an Iranian embassy-tied building in Iraq. Both are quite rambly, please tell me if you like them or not, I'm trying to refine my writing style per what is easy and entertaining for people to read.

More importantly, I've got a very large and important article (one of which I call "Steveisms" ;) ) on the ongoing battle of Bell's amusement park and the Tulsa State Fair Board. It will be one of the most important articles I will ever write, as not only does the park mean a lot to me, what the fair board is doing is... wrong. You'll just have to read the article to find out more, I hope to have it out by this weekend.

For some reason I can't get on your site.

We are also looking for editors/story writers around here. There will be something posted soon about it on the boards. If you're 18 or over and interested check out the thread.

^Uh oh, what browser are you using? I designed the site specifically for FireFox, but it should work OK in IE 6 (dunno about 7)

Anyone else used other browsers to use the site? How has it worked? I would like to know of any problems, just e-mail me at supersteve@superstevessupersite.com

^Oh yeah, and about the second part of your post, I'd like to, but I just don't have the time. I barely fit in writing for my site.

Eh, I've been really debating with myself over what I should do with the site. It really isn't anything right now, just a small collection of theme park galleries and opinionated news clips and special reports that I write. I want to turn it into something, a place where theme park enthusiasts can come to not only share their passion for theme parks, but also other topics. I dunno though, not only are my poor web design skills holding me back, I just don't like the idea of running an average Joe type coaster site with a forum and a few editorials... We'll see what happens.

I'm am working on a new version of SuperSteve's at the moment, in an attempt to bring the look and feel of the site up to an acceptable standard, but as I said, I'm, still a newbie at web design, and anything art oriented is my enemy. When it's all done though, it'll be something unique. If you have any questions/suggestions/whatever, e-mail me at supersteve@superstevessupersite.com

Wow, it's taken me awhile, but I'm almost done with the new SuperSteve's. As I type, the site is almost completely down, an there's some left to do as far as fixing up the template, but I should have most to all of it done by tomorrow.

The site will be re-focused when finished to center on delving into areas most sites stay out of. I'll keep watch of the smaller parks no one seems to care about, go into what various industry actions really mean, and keep an on-going coverage of many of the mid-west theme parks near me like Bell's that don't usually get covered by many. All in all, it'll be different than what everyone else has done.

Just a note, I've got IE7 and it shows up the background and links, but the "body" text or whatever is in the middle doesn't show up at all.

Weird.

Is the home page supposed to be blank except for the heading? Just wondering because that's all I see on it. The forum section looks cool though.

Ah, I haven't even gotten around to checking for IE. Hmmm, I'll look into it asap. For now it works fine on Firefox, but I don't know about anything else.

Edit:
I just checked for validation errors and there aren't any real problems; the CSS is perfect as well. Tch, IE is crap - every time you use it a web designer dies.

The entire site has been redone appearance-wise. I think it's starting to look like something, and it works in IE. 6, IE 7, and Firefox. I've been trying to write news reports daily, but sometimes there just isn't anything to report when you only cover a few small parks. I'll have to spread out a bit more soon.

Soon I'll try to add comment boxes to the news reports, a bit like what you'd see in a blog.

Alright, I just found out that IE 6 has been breaking my site, sorry to all of you who still use it. Really, if you still use IE 6, take a good look at firefox, it's a world better.

Anyway, I've been really busy lately, and the news has been slow, but this week I'm getting back to business and will be writing more reports than ever before. I'll be spreading out my coverage a bit to cover a few more major parks like WoF, SFStL, and SFoT, among others.
Those comment boxes I keep talking about are comming soon as well, but maybe not until next month.

Well, the site has been kinda slacking lately, but this week I plan to jump start everything again with a return to daily updates - if I can find enough material to talk about that is.

I've got some big plans for the site, and for other projects related to it, but it'll be awhile before I can do too much. How does a theme park industry social bookmarking site sound?
