NFL Conf. Championship Games 2009

January 18,2009

Philadelphia EAGLES at Arizona Cardinals
3pm FOX

Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers
6:30pm CBS

The Philadelphia EAGLES will go to their 5th NFC Championship Game in 8 years against the Arizona Cardinals, hosting their first NFC Championship Game ever. This would be the first time the Championship game involving two non 10 game winning teams.

The Baltimore Ravens travel to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers for the right to go to the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay.

Tony Dungy is going to retire from the Colts. I most notably respect him with the rise into the modern era of some decent football with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Should be an exciting weekend of football.

I think it will be Pittsburg & Philadelphia in the Superbowl.

^I agree. Of course, if the Ravens were to win, it would definitely be a bird fight in the Superbowl. Haha.

I hope the Eagles hold off the Cards, but it won't be an esay task.

I didn't even realize that 3 of the final 4 are birds. LOL

It would be kinda neat (since my Panthers are out) to have an all-PA SB.

I have no idea how it will turn out though. I bet a lot of people lost a ton of money in Vegas betting on Carolina.

The EAGLES have to keep bringing it. The Defense has been very consistent all year. It's the Offense every week that needs to get rolling that had those problems. I hope they beat Arizona. A PA Super Bowl would be the true celebration of the NFL chroniclization on this site. I believe my reporting on the EAGLES each game and season is a direct effect of Dan and his Steelers. I developped the counterbalance for Eastern PA to his Western PA Steelers following. It finally let me to ditch any casual followings I had of the Steelers during the Monday Night Football Games of the 90's because I became so repulsed this decade. (I wonder why? haha) It picked up my game for my hometeam. Going to the stadium helps too.

It's funny I had "Desert EAGLES Nest" as a friend on the Space all last year til now and bumped them up to a Top Friend the last few weeks. I finally thanked the last Raiders fan I know today.

A guy a few towns over from me that lives in the same town as Donovan is driving his RV, EAGLE One, out to the desert. He goes to all the away games. Respects.

The mayor of Pittsburgh Luke R. Ravenstahl has officially changed his name to Luke R. Steelerstahl. It's only a temporary change. I'm amazed his name includes Ravens in the spelling and he got voted in at Pittsburgh.

It's about time!

How about King James playing for the Browns in that State Farm commercial? They were kind enough to put Cleveland vs. Miami. State Farm is serving it to Ohio's Progressive.

Spags, a former EAGLES coach, went from the Giants to the Rams to become head coach. John Gruden is gone from Tampa. I wonder, I wonder the what ifs.

The little birds are Pesky. It's the Larry Fitzgerald show. In the past two playoff games the EAGLES had a bad offensive first half and showed up in the 2nd. Both Offense and Defense have not showed up the first half while the Cardinals came in very aggressively.

It's not looking good for the Eagles. I'm almost tempted to say Arizona wins but we do have another half to play.

Unless Arizona falls flat in the 2nd half it looks like their going to the Superbowl.

State Farm sucks, Progressive rocks! Of course, I am insured by Progressive.

At the half, CARDINALS 24, eagles 6.

That bush league cheap shot on Warner away from the play was pretty much the definition of low rent. Nice to see that the Cards got points out of it.

After the game update- on the last play, when the Cards defender got the lateral and was trying to score- that was also very stupid and low rent. The class (and intelligent) play is to lay down.

I hated seeing the questionable no-call on the 4th down play, too.

And the Cards win! The franchise hasn't had a championship in 61 years (compared to the Cubs 100 years).

Now for the Steelers to win...

Thank you Brian.

This was most simply the amazing EAGLES season for me. I missed 3 games or so going on vacation in September/October. I didn't quite like the white jerseys mixing with our luck like they did in prominence. Into the middle of the season my mentioning of the thread's chance, that really ugly feeling that prompted me to put up Inflatable Man in the front yard the first November Giants game and he's stayed there since, the tie, left for dead basically, then getting the Miracle of help from the Raiders and Texans, the killing of Dallas and getting in, and then shutting the door on our NFC rivals the Giants. In the end our division rivals paid. I kept taking the shots, keeping resilient like the team coming back in all those 2nd halfs like in today's game and the previous Playoff games. I didn't forget the Birds were 1 and 4 in their last NFC Championship Games. It was great to be back after 4 years. I really wanted to be 2 of 5 and going to Tampa. I just never looked too far ahead with each game. Donovan and Andy were almost run out of town. They surely live another year and I'd love to have Brian Dawkins back. Thanks for showing the Birds are still a playoff team, getting through the most cloudy of times. I surely saw it all with the tie and kitchen sink this year. Thank you.

The EAGLES came back from halftime to chip away at Arizona's lead. The Defense held the Cards Offense most of the 2nd half after being blown apart in the first. Just like the Giants' Carney missed 2 field goals last week David Akers missed a Field goal and extra point for the EAGLES. It was a close game up to 5 minutes left in the 4th. The Birds were just short of tieing to go to Overtime. The Arizona Cardinals will go to Tampa Bay. I just learned how their name and team was amongst or actually the oldest in the league but I would have wanted them to get a name better suited for the desert. At least they have a real home now but with a slippery field for today's game?

My dad always says "Defense Wins Championships." I respect that more than high powered offenses. South Jersey's Joe Flacco leads the Baltimore Ravens as a rookie QB tonight. Go for it man. I'm free of any favorites for the AFC game now. Perhaps Big Bird can take out lil pesky bird.

Final Philadelphia EAGLES record: 11-7-1

I'm happy that the Cardinals won, happy for Kurt Warner. Not too long ago, it looked like his career was over for the most part. I'd like to see them win the Super Bowl in a couple weeks. As for the AFC, I couldn't care less. They're the two teams I dislike the most and whoever wins, I hope they lose to the Cardinals in the Super Bowl.

I agree with Harbaugh throwing the flag. If Holmes didn't stretch it he'd have it. Take the 1 yd line than not have it at all but I didn't see what down it was. Holmes in the current drive just scored as I typed this. haha

Good for the old guy Kurt Warner that had the amazing story/resume he has. Funny that I was also against him when he was in the Super Bowl against Tennessee. I really wanted that one yard for Tennessee. hehe

Do they only paint "Steelers" on the field during the Playoffs because Pitt uses the field as well earlier in the season? That's kind of skimpy. I realize how the "Pittsburgh" in the other end zone always works. I guess it follows the style of the helmet too.

You have 0 rights to complain about the officiating. Last time I checked, "Roughing the kicker" actually involves a player, at the very minimum, touching the kicker. That was a ridiculous call.

I agree there. I was like why the hell are they calling roughing the kicker? He practically landed on the guy (the defense man).

So if Pittsburgh does go on to win I'm off the hook for creating the next logical thread for it's duration. I was retired with my team today for 08-09 season.

Just when I was happy to see a close game in the 4th Joe Flacco did a rookie mistake giving Pal man the interception to close the game with 4 minutes left.

That hit was something awful. I am very glad Maghee was OK and was moving all extremities. They did say that he still had bad neck pain. :-(

The latest report I heard on MaGahee was that he's spending the night in the hospital, but is "neurologically intact."

Uh, if you people haven't noticed, it wouldn't be an AFC playoff game without some craptastic calls. The referees CLEARLY wanted to be the stars of the postseason, and tonight was no exception.

Yes, he roughed the kicker. From the ground, he rammed his head into the kickers foot. Sure.

In fairness, Tim Donaghay thinks the AFC officiating was spot-on this year.

I sure hate the Steelers, and I sure hate seeing them win, but it was nice to see the only Steeler player worth liking (Polamalu) have a great game. I was wanting Baltimore to win (only because they're NOT the Steelers), but had to cheer when he got the pick-6.

Is his hair getting bigger?
