| A-Rod Steroids Find
Move over Michael Phelps. I would not have known as quickly today about it if it wasn't for my cousin posting: " A-rod " on her Facebook status. It was revealed today that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003. I asked my cousin the Yankees fan living in Boston right now if she could find any shirt designs with "A-roid" on the streets of Boston already. I could only imagine. He's lucky he was not a New York Met, I as a Phillies fan.

Question: Why didn't we find out in 2003? Is there any reason we sat around for 6 years then later came out with it? I can hear the truck like backup beeps from his 60 Minutes interview.

The casual little corner of the front page of our paper said this must take the luster off the championships he's won, which is none.

I just thought that there should just be a league hat with the MLB logo and giant asterisk next to it in rhinestones. I bet that would be a hot New Era hat sell.

As a Yankees fan, when it comes to A-Rod (and all the other Rioders while we're at it) - WHO CARES! Let's put aside the classic "how does it affect me" crap for the moment, as well as the "There's so many players that probably do" argument. While it sucks that his performance may be steroid enhanced, how much does it really matter? Baseball is a team sport that, unlike basketball, one player cannot dominate to the fact that they can not only swing a game in their team's favor, but singlehandedly overwhelm a team. Also, I don't care how many steroids you take, it doesn't improve your reaction time, nor your hand-eye coordination. You still need the skill to use that extra strength. Being strong doesn't matter if you can't swing the bat with accuracy and great timing. Being fast doesn't matter if you can't read the flight of a ball. Now if this was a sport like Track, then steroids matters a lot! In that case, because steroids do work, and do work very well, it can give you an unfair advantage. Because track is an individual sport, one person can dominate the field in a way that is completely and utterly overwhelming. If you're juicing, you can be faster and stronger to a point that it is unfair to your opponents, because you're performing at a level that is not natural. Track isn't about reflexes and precision, just speed. Steroids simply doesn't mean as much for team sports.

I would know, I've played baseball for 14 years. Although steroids doesn't do anything to effect the "skill" portion of hitting a ball, it does effect your bat speed and strength. Balls go further, and you can get your bat through the zone much quicker. Its an edge the player wouldn't have without them, and it makes a lot of A-Rod's records look questionable, in turn tarnishing his reputation as a steroids free player. If you look at the pictures back in 03 of A-Rod you can pretty much tell he was using, but I'm still disappointed that it's now a fact. |

A-Rod Says: The 2001-2003 versions of "Red Bull" came in a Syringe and Needle, to enhance your energy!

He actually mad the statement about his steriod use in an interview with ESPN last week. Kind of a shock but not really. I don't think he should go to the Hall of Fame though.

Forgive my absence, I literally forgot I posted on this topic. I never said it didn't matter at all. What I said is that it doesn't matter as much. It still makes the records questionable, as well as the performance, but Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, and A-Rod cannot singlehandedly defeat an entire team of guys.
