March NHL

Well it is technically Feb by one day, but the Thrashers just beat the Canes 5-3. Came back 4 goals in the last period. Kovalchuk got 2 goals and 3 assists. He has been on fire the last 10 games, and has 34 goals total. Hopefully will catch up to Ovechkin.

Hah... OV has beaten him every year since joining the NHL, so as was said, don;t count on it. Especially since Ovechkin and the Caps aren't showing any signs of slowing down.

With the trade deadline coming up Geurin might be a Cap. Details released tomorrow apparently. Nylander is part of the deal apparently. If the Caps can get rid of "circles" I'll be pleased. Nylander has been a useless, turnover machine this season.

He may not pass him, but at least get in second place. Kovalchuk had a rough half of the season, and then once we got Peverley and he was named C, he started doing amazing. He had 13 goals and eight assists in his past 10 games. And BTW, he tied Kovalchuk in 2005 for goals....

Flyers and Devils are at it. Danny Briere is back. My sister and father are watching. When I walk into the room the Devils score. It's 2-0 now. It's at the Prudential Center and reminds me of the Flyers Devils game I attended there in December before Christmas. Great seats I had that day but the Wachovia Center in Philly still owns. It's only a month til I see Flyers Rangers on Easter.

Don Cherry and Sidney Crosby have criticized Ovechkin's goal celebrations. I'll tip my hat to Don Cherry however, maybe he is blowing it out of proportions and making it somewhat unnecessary, and of course, Don Cherry is a legend.

Crosby though? Psht...you wish you could celebrate goals...hint: score more of them.

Don Cherry is a xenophobe. He still thinks all Russians are commies... He's been full of hot air all season. He started the season saying this was going to be the season that teams figured out how to stop Ovechkin, well here we are another 40 goal season thus far and showing no signs of being stopped. Now he says that someone is going to rip him in half for celebrating goals? Don Cherry should just shut his trap and worry about picking up a less flamboyant wardrobe. He never seems to give the Russian players any respect, even though guys like Ovechkin, Kovy, and Malkin just to name a few are easily some of the best talent out there.

Caps had a very uneventful trade deadline. Which is too bad, with this defense I really doubt they'll do much better then the 2nd round.

Sharks picked up Travis Moen and Ted Huskins for...basically nothing.

I know you'll hate this Pantsfree, but the Caps should've traded for Chris Pronger.

I wish they made a move for a defensemen, not necessarily Pronger because his cost would be huge. I was really hoping for Morris... I can understand not making a move this year like that. Apparently teams were looking at Mike Green, Alzner, and other top tier prospects in the system. The Caps window for shots at the cup is still pretty big, so I'd rather hold onto those two defensemen in particular because they are gonna be great for years to come.

Thrashers got rid of Christiansen and got a 2nd round draft pick player from last year from the Ducks. Atlanta is trying to get a lot of young talent for next year and rebuild. Hopefully they can sign Kovy this summer and get Tavares or Hedman.

I gotta say, the Caps fans win the award for the best creativity in sign making. I saw on a blog the other day a picture of Sidney Crosby photoshopped in a crib, and of course...crying. Genius.

The best I came up with at a Sharks game was going 5-Hole on the gap in Chris Pronger's teeth.

On a different note, I got to talk face to face with Jeremy Roenick yesterday...he's a wicked chill guy, low key.

lol, I went to that Pens game, it was pretty awesome how many people made up signs and shirts to heckle Crosby. Its too bad he had to go and have a great game to ruin the fun. haha

Just when I thought I was done with the Spectrum in South Philly my sister and I may go see the Flyers AHL team, the Phantoms, tomorrow. Right now we're watching Flyers Rangers at home on tv. Less than a month my sister and I will watch Flyers Rangers in person on Easter.

JR is pretty cool. I remember we had a #97 Jeremy Roenick poster at Kmart when he was a Flyer.

So, after seeing Brodeur tie Roy's record for most wins by a goaltender in his home town Montreal, I got 3 tickets (taking my friend and girlfriend with me) to go see Tuesday's home game against Chicago to hopefully see NHL history as he goes for win number 552.

The funny part is, I got the tickets this morning.

I am very excited.

The Flyers split a weekend series with the Rangers. Today I did watch the Flyers' minor league team the Phantoms play one of their final games in Philadelphia in person 5 rows from the ice. Their arena will close, the team was sold to the Baker Group of Pittsburgh so we'll see where they go. The Phantoms beat the Norfolk Admirals 3-2 tonight.

Jeesh, terrible game tonight. The defense is soft as pudding and the offense couldn't hit the side of a barn. Lehtonen was impressive to boot. No way this team makes it out of the first round with how they've been playing the last month.

They sucked last year too, hence why they got Stamkos.

First draft pick next season is going to be one lucky team to get Tavares.

I checked the standings on NHL.com earlier and San Jose and Detroit have officially clinched a playoff spot. With around 12-10 games left that is a pretty good position to be in. That 8th spot in the east and west is going to be hard to get within the next few weeks.

Thrashers are finally getting everything together. They are on a 6 game winning streak, the longest in the NHL and are playing amazing, even without Kovalchuk. I am going to the Detroit game this Friday. Should be a awesome game, and will be sold out.

And Ovechkin is a winy baby. He refused to talk to the media because he was pissed Atlanta gave them a beating and he didn't score his 50th goal when "god told him he was going to score and get his 50th against Atlanta."

Ovechkin does win a lot, well, a lot more then anyone from Atlanta ever has. So I guess making up a word like "winy" works. I'm pretty sure you meant "whiny", though. I wouldn't call someone whiny when they were clearly pissed about a complete lack of effort by anyone else on the team resulting in another loss to a lousy team. Being pissed about losing is a good thing. It shows you don't accept failure. Has Kovalchuk just learned to simply accept constant failure over his years in a Thrashers jersey or what?

And the Wings game sure will be sold out, thanks to Detroit transplants packing the place. Should be a real "fun time"...

I'm watching Flyers Red Wings right now. They cut in to Chicago - New Jersey during intermission to show Marty Brodeur doing it, getting the all time wins record.

Flyers lose 3-2 to the Red Wings. It's been 20 years since they won in Detroit.

Good for Marty, great career.

Caps came back from last night's awful effort to play an awesome solid game against the Panthers, no shots allowed in the third and a shutout.

Here's the difference. Kovalchuk would still go to the media and talk to them and not go and pout because he didn't get a goal. There's a reason why Kovalchuk was named Captain (the only Russian), unlike Ovechkin. And He has proved he deserved that after watching him play the past few months.

What was that? I'm having trouble hearing you all the way down there in the standings... But seriously...

Kovy was named the captain this January. He has the small advantage of playing in the league for 3 seasons before Ovechkin even started for the Caps. So that comparison is bogus right from the start. Ovechkin has been wearing the A for seasons now, and with Clark out injured constantly acts as the team's captain, talking to refs and acts as a leader in the locker room.

You can worry about whether or not players answer questions to the media after an awful game, I'd rather have results on the ice. You know, something that actually matters. Like last night when they shutout a team that is actually competing for the playoffs.
