MLB 09 Spring Training/Season Openers

Curt Schilling announced his retirement on his blog. I will always remember his role on the 1993 Phillies, going to the World Series. What he did in Boston was pretty cool too.

We're almost there! Pretty soon I'll be watching the Philadelphia Phillies on tv once again.

The Phils played an exhibition against the Tampa Bay Rays today. Pat Burrell came back but as a Ray. The Phillies won 3-2.

It feels so great that baseball is back. The Phillies start off the MLB season on ESPN Sunday Night versus the Braves at home. It just seemed like yesterday Harry Kalas finally made his famous call. World Champions 2008. It will sink in more as I hear more Phillies baseball on the radio of this new season coming up.

Jays win their home opener 12-5 against the Tigers. I was only able to catch the last two innings, but it was nice to see the Jays win their home opener.

They almost had to forfeit in the bottom of the 8th when some idiots started throwing baseballs on the field. I can't say for sure if they were Jays or Tigers fan, but either way, thank god they stopped.

Jays are also having four "Messin with the Recession" nights with cheap tickets, $1 hot dogs, and $4 souvenirs. I'll be going to 3 of them (I work tomorrow during the first)

Dollar Dog Nights are awesome at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phils lost Sunday night, but losing the home opener is not new the last few years. The Braves indeed have upgraded.

I'll see the Blue Jays twice this season. Work has tickets to the Blue Jays-Phils Interleague and my cousin and I have tickets for Boston-Toronto Standing room at Fenway Labor Day weekend. I've turned down invites to New Yankee Stadium and $hiti Field. I have a feeling those will come back.

^^I was wondering what the delay was in the 8th.

Tribe started lackluster. Cliff Lee took a hard bouncer off his pitching elbow (of all places), Tribe fell 9-1 to the Rangers.

Tribe promotions include dollar dog night at select games throughout the season. They get a good number of people at Progressive Field and sell about 3 times as more hot dogs than they normally do.

I'm posting this now, because it's probably the best we will see all season.

Year 2 of the post-Bonds era started off with a 10 win victory for the Giants, while Lincecum struggled. There's no way their offense is that good, but hopefully some solid pitching can help them improve over last year. I wish there was a team closer than 4 hours away from me ....

The Phillies received their World Series Rings today. Just when I thought the Phils would lose their third game in the row they rallied back, were walked several times to come back and win 12-11 over Atlanta today. I'm quite happy.

Cubs off to good start with a series win over the Astros. Looked good in all three games. If Fukudome can continue hitting like he has the first three games, the Cubs will be improved over last year. Pitching looked great except for last night.

Rays about to finish off the Red Sox for a series win at Fenway. That's a great way to start a season no matter what team you are. Longoria is hitting like an MVP already. And Kazmir and Garza looked great in their starts, both getting wins.

Jays are going to have a reunion for their 92 and 93 World Series winning teams sometime in August. I'm hoping it's something at the stadium where fans can go and see instead of a banquet thing.

It would be too perfect if it was during a Braves or Philly match-up, but no games against them in August.

The house that Steinbrenner built is looking more and more like poop. Maybe call it the house that Grady Sizemore built (he hit the first grandslam). Currently in the 4th, the Indians are up 16-2.

Oh yes. a 14-run second inning. Could this happen to a better team?

I applaud the Indians' efforts. 10-2 the Yanks' opener against C.C. This 20-4 killing going on right now on FOX. Why do I have to watch? I don't like Joe Buck.

^But C.C. was lucky, he received a no-decision. The first 2 Yankee pitchers today both now have over a 35.00 ERA. 22-4 was the final, and Travis Hafner missed making it 26-4 or more when his bid for a grand slam fell about a foot short.
