Best and Worst Team names

Recently My local Can Am league Baseball team got a new owner with it came a new name. Gone is the 11 year old Nashua Pride name. In it's place a new name the owners feel with have a more state wide maybe even a national draw. It's new name:

The American Defenders of New Hampshire!

I hate this name. I dislike the choice to disassociate the the Home town of Nashua for the NH connection. It's bad enough the team fights for attendance with the New Hampshire Fishercats a AA Bluejays affiliate.

My best team name falls to 2 the Pawtucket(RI) Pawsox a AAA Red Sox Team and the Augusta(GA) Green jackets a A Giants team. The Green Jacket is a is a connection to the Local Masters Golf Tournament.

New Hampshire is a hot spot for bad names. I haven't followed AA as close as I used to but a few years ago I realized a team with the name New Hampshire was in the league. No wonder they mostly used New Hampshire as I now know they're Fishercats. Trenton Thunder, the most local of AA affiliates in my area I believe has the best name. The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, the Philadelphia Phillies AAA team that just started up last year, makes me laugh with that name.

Your team should be the Nashua Defenders the least. Otherwise I agree, it's the worst name. I know the history of the Utah Jazz coming from New Orleans but that's among the worst names. Rowan University Professors (Profs) is quite geeky.

As far as AAA baseball goes...Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs is the worst...BUT The Toledo Mud Hens is the best!

As far as other sports...how is a kangaroo supposed to represent a Zip...as in the University of Akron Zips?

Lehigh Valley is tied in to the huge defunct Bethlehem Steel plant in Bethlehem, PA, all in Dorney's backyard, hence the big fat pig.

Thanks to Wikipedia I now know what a Mudhen is, an American coot that lives in the marshlands close to town there. What an awesome looking stadium, with buildings that remind you of San Diego and Baltimore. There's just more in Toledo.

Clinger on MASH used to talk about teh Mudhens all the time.

I also don't care for the fisher cat name(A badger like Mammal that is in this area, Known to kill small Animals. I voted for the Manchester Millers(playing of of the local Mills)

Anotehr bad NH team name is the Keene(collage) Swamp bats. I like Nashua High(south) Purple Panthers but dislike the overly used North schools Titans name.

What's worse about Nashua havign such a bad name is that the other Can am league teams are pretty good: Brockton Rox(Brox Rox), Quebec Capitals, Worcester Tornados, Sussex Sky Hawks, and New Jersey Jackals.

I also like the Brooklyn Cyclones at Coney Island.Class A Mets team

The Brooklyn Cyclones is a great name related to our hobby. I bet even non sports inclined rollercoaster enthusiasts would take a liking to it. In the Lehigh Valley a high school also uses a Zephyrs name. I think it's more related to the Zephyr trains and Reading/Erie/Lackawanna Railroads than a connection to Dorney Park.

Ya most likely.

Nashua has always had descent names up to now I personally liked the Pride name. Had a sort of double meaning to it.

Nashua has had many teams over the years with farm leagues for Dodgers(Brooklyn Dodgers), California Angels, and Pittsburgh Pirates. the short lived Nashua Hawks was an ok name but not great.
