| NBA Offseason (2009)
Today is the day the free agents can sign with the teams, and the Detroit Pistons wasted no time making a major splash in the market waters. They pick up Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva for a combined $100 million, but of course this is just a beginning of what is anticipated to be a major overhaul of their roster. After their run in the East was abruptly ended by the LeBron "The King" James and his Cavaliers team, it was about time to tear down what is left of the once mighty house and rebuild a new team. Hamilton and Prince are the only two player remaining from the 2004 championship team, and their futures in Detroit are uncertain. So Cleveland, Orlando, and Detroit made some major moves to improve their roster. It remains to be seen if Boston is going to do the same to try to keep up in the East. Meanwhile more troubling news for my team as Yao Ming future in the NBA is threatened with injuries. He could probably be out for the entire 2009-2010 season, Ron Artest is also a free agent, and Tracy McGrady is in his final year of his contract. So Houston has some major decisions to make this summer.

I may have spoken too soon, the Boston Celtics may end up making a major blockbuster move of their own....team President Danny Ainge expressed great interest in signing Rasheed Wallace, although they may have to contend with Orlando and Cleveland who have also expressed some interest. The Celtics already have four players who have made the All-Stars.

Its going to be interesting to see who comes out of the East with all these moves. I a lot of question marks exist...

Rasheed Wallace is going to make this Celtics team even scarier than before....he adds some much-needed depth to their front court and will look to upgrade their defense and bring more championship experience. He is also very much battle-tested in the playoffs, so nothing should phase him. Imagine this possible starting lineup: G: Ray Allen G: Stephon Marbury (should Rondo miss a game for whatever reason) C: Kevin Garnett F: Paul Pierce F: Rasheed Wallace An All-Star starting lineup -- perhaps the first in NBA history. What a team to have to go up against.

The San Antonio Spurs continue to bank on journeyman veterans over the years to build around their big three. This year, they picked up Antonio McDyess, a hard-working and dedicated veteran who will upgrade their front court. A couple of trades in the works is Shawn Marion going to Dallas in a four team deal, and Carlos Boozer going to Chicago in a three team deal involving Portland and Utah.

The 2009-2010 schedule is released: Cleveland Cavaliers play Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Lakers get their rings on NBA opening night - ESPN Opening night features a double header on TNT: In the first game, the 2007 Eastern Conference Champions host the 2008 Eastern Conference Champions as Boston travels to Cleveland....a game featuring a pair of serious contenders that retooled and upgraded big time in an attempt to return to the Finals. And in the second game, the reigning World Champions LA Lakers will collect their rings then play the LA Clippers in a Staples Center opening night showdown. Also the Orlando will host Boston in a rematch of one of last season's Eastern Conference second-rounds on Christmas Day ***SHAQ VS KOBE*** Mark your calendars for the biggest matchup of the league -- Shaq vs Kobe. The Cavs travel to LA to face the Lakers on ABC Christmas Day, then the two square off in Cleveland on TNT January 21. It's always fun to see those two square off against one another.
