NHL '09 Summer Offseason

The Philadelphia Flyers traded for Defensemen Chris Pronger from the Anaheim Ducks recently. Chris just came to Philadelphia to speak to the media. I realized Kyle could be familiar with this guy being formerly in his Conference.

John Tavares of the Oshawa Generals (and later London Knights) was drafted number 1 to the NY Islanders. I can't wait to see how he does in the NHL after dominating in the OHL

I was happy with the Capitals picking up Knuble.

Having Pronger in Philly makes me a bit nervous now for the regular season and post season. The guy can deliver some huge shots (legal and otherwise).

I am happy. Although my home team's last #1 pick makes it hard not to be slightly pessimistic.

The Thrashers had an amazing off season with some of the signings they did, the draft, and the hiring of the assistant GM. I think with the strong performance at the end of the season, they did nothing but improve so all they will be doing is getting better. So far our top 3 lines could be :
Kovalchuk Peverley Antropov
Little White Kozlov
Kane Reasoner Armstrong
(I see nothing wrong with that)

With Bogosian and Enstrom as our top D

Pronger is a guy everyone loves to hate. He's pulled some cheapshots and is somewhat of a goon, but man does he have a hard shot, and he's huge! He's the perfect match for Philly, along with Ray Emery. No longer will Sid the Kid be able to crash the net..Pronger will be there waiting for him, if he isn't there, Ray Emery will be.

Good moves for Philly. Still waiting on the Sharks to do something...anything.

It will be interesting to see if Kovalchuk signs an extension with Atlanta and decides to stay or if he goes next year.

At first I thought the Pronger deal was good for Philly, then I read about the extension he signed. Philly is crazy for signing him to that deal, imo. 7 years?! I really don't think he has THAT much in the tank to merit that many years at that much money. He's going on 35 and is beginning his decline as his career enters its twilight.

Burke is really beefing up the Leafs defense with several new players being signed, along with 'The Monster' Jona Gustavsson in net.

I still doubt they'll make the playoffs this year, but I Think another season or two with Burke at the helm will get them back in there.

The Winter Classic was officially announced. I think I clued into it before.

Flyers - Bruins - Fenway Park, January 1, 2010.

I didn't realize how big the rivalry was until now. Our first Stanley Cup came from a win over the Bruins, Ron Hextall's first goal came from the Bruins... It's been a hate-respect one. The Caps didn't get playoff ratings so the Flyers got assigned.
