MLB August 2009

Our new GM Ruben Amaro, Jr, former player as well on the Phillies. I remember watching him play on our '93 Squad that lost to the Jays in the World Series.

All smiles tonight (7/31) as our new acquisition Cliff Lee made his Phillies debut and went the complete game winning 5-1.

MLB August 2009

The words "Wildcard" are coming up. It's already been mentioned.

When the Jays wear their "retro" uniform or the last series of uniform I really don't miss that look. Paul Molitor was pretty cool though.

I got my tickets to the Jays Back2Back weekend next weekend. I'll be at the Friday and Saturday games, both against Baltimore.

Friday is Flashback Friday and they will be honoring the 92 and 93 World Series winning teams.
Saturday will start with a Fan Fest where fans will be given the chance to meet the players from those teams.

I need to find something to get signed. I'll try to get a picture with Joe Carter for you Leo

I met Mitch Williams, the closer that gave that pitch to Joe Carter, at a local liquor store that just opened up in April, a weekend before our broadcaster Harry Kalas died. I actually gave him a picture of the intersection of Mitchell Ave and Williams Street from my town for him to have and a copy to sign for myself.

^I'm sure Mitch really enjoyed that.

Yes I can hear the call now...as Williams falls off the mound and Carter drives it down the line...GONE!! Back to Back the Blue Jays are World Series Champs!

"Touch 'em all, Joe. You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life."
-- Legendary Jays' broadcaster Tom Cheek

I had a ticket to one of the World Series games, but I gave it to my cousin after he begged me for it. I was young and naive, I thought the Jays could do it again.

I'm still waiting.

I wish I bought the black NLCS or World Series shirt in 1993 with candy change I had as a kid. Mitch is now an accepted member of the Phillies community as a knowledgeable broadcaster after years of being looked down upon. Tom Cheek's call is really what I remember the most. That was cool but it was more bothersome to watch the video.

I'm glad I've had my moment recently after the 1993 season I loved so much.

Tonight I will sing the National Anthem with the Rotary Club at the Phils-Rockies game.

Wow, Tonight I was at one of my best Phils games in awhile with Dad: J.A. Happ's 10k Complete Game Shutout win 7-0 over the Rockies. I slurred one word while singing the National Anthem, was within an arms length of Ryan Howard in the tunnel talking on his device.Great start to my MLB tour this month. NYM and BOS are next.

Yankees have the best record in the league? Check.
5.5 games above Boston? Check.

So this is when you check in? Up to this past Thursday you guys got your first win of the season versus the Red Sox and somehow I let that sleeper fact get by. Boy, that took 2/3's of the this season. I hope the Red Sox get a salvage win tonight.

The Phils were swept by the Marlins this weekend. Not good baseball. The Marlins are 4th in the NL Wildcard this evening.

Cole Hamels - Wake Up! Looks like Jamie Moyer is out, the Pedro tryout is going to come?

Come one, come all to the Jays clearance sale!
This season only, take some of our star players for no money down and no money paid whatsoever!

Jays just got rid of Rios to the White Sox for nothing in return. JP needs to get his ass out of the GM seat.

Pedro makes a debut Wednesday versus the Cubs. Jamie Moyer got bumped into the bullpen but he's not a bullpen kind of guy: slower starter. I've become superstitious about which hat to wear and today I had no clue at all which one to wear. They've all had their tough moments.

Doesn't that say something about the Red Sox? Yanks were 0-8 against them and they were still trailing by 2.5 games heading into the series. No, they didn't win. Sweep.

Ryan, same thing is going on in Cleveland, getting rid of star players. The owner was on afternoon drive yesterday and said the GM spot is safe, but it looks like the Tribe will have a new manager next year.

Boston got back on the horse with a win against the Tigers Monday night and on through today.

Pedro Martinez, be it 10 years later more worn out edition, debuted for the Phillies today. The Phillies won 12-5 with an 8 run inning. Informing my Yankees fan cousin about Pedro's debut, when she mentioned Don Zimmer it brought up memories I tucked away. Of course I had a problem with Pedro when he was with the Mets. We rocked him the one time with the Mets though the next season the Mets and himself got us back.

For years I rallied with my New Hampshire Red Sox fan family and antagonize my Yankee fan cousins I still love dearly at the same time. That moment cemented my whole role in the side show relationship behind my first love: the Philadelphia Phillies. The 2004 ALCS and World Series was awesome to see unfold live on FOX. If I muted Joe Buck it would have been even better.

Having 2 of 3 from the Cubs I'll at least take that for the Phils. We'll see tomorrow.

Two weekends from now: Mets-Phils at #@iti Field. My Yankee fan cousins and I are going. We're supposed to get ceramic models of the park. Either we'll shoot a video of ourselves smashing them up or I'll give a few untouched ones to some Mets fans customers I know. We'll see.

Sabathia has really been pitching well lately. Back to 6.5 games up now.

Sweep versus the Cubs. This weekend the Phils are at Atlanta. I always tend to watch a game at the Phils Atlanta game at the bar.

That's my least favorite Coca Cola commercial of all time.

I just added that to my favorites. Thank you, Leo.

Here's my two jerseys bought at about 50% off because they are either old numbers (Overbay changed his number this year) or no longer play for us (Pitcher BJ Ryan).

Wow...in the Cleveland market, you'd be chastised for wearing a former players jersey. Fans are really weird in the Cleveland area. I guarantee you, if the Indians get a new manager next year and aren't in first place by May 15th, a lot of fans will already call for the head of that manager on a silver platter.

People can harp on me all they want but the only reason I got a Ryan jersey is the name.

I'll be at Citi Field watching the Phils-Mets this afternoon. I already know Citizens Bank Park is better.

Jacob's Field (Progressive) beats all new parks by far.

Wow I saw a weird game in person, with Pedro's first batter there was the first inside the park homerun at Citi Field. The game concluded with Eric Bruntlett of the Phils getting a very rare triple play. It was last done to end a game in 1927. I saw the last triple play completed by a Phils player in 1992, 2B Mickey Morandini.

This weekend I went to Fenway with my cousin to see the Red Sox and Blue Jays. Roy Halladay got hit around and the Jays lost 7-0. I guess that avenges the 7-1 loss the Jays gave Philly earlier this season that I saw. I got to see the guy the Phillies were hot to get but didn't. I give the Boston fans respect. I had standing room only and it was a lot of work to squeeze in a view. The overhang took a lot away from my view of the game along with the support posts for the stadium. I just happen to be a prince of modern era with my posh laid back Citizens Bank Park. I really appreciate my homepark after visiting Fenway and Citi Field. Fenway is still a gem. My first impression, my first view of the ballpark entering in left field by the Green Monster was that I entered a whole different era. I decided not to buy any souvenirs of Fenway or even Red Sox like pins at the Hard Rock Cafe because i just don't cross that line with them. I love my Phils. I collect Hard Rock pins and said no to the first edition from the new Yankee Stadium location my one friend offered to get me. They are just too Yankee for me.

While I was away Cliff Lee lost his first game with the Phils Saturday night. I made it down to my uncle's in NY Sunday night in time to see the end of the Phils-Braves game on ESPN.

Jim Thome went from the White Sox to the Dodgers Monday night I noticed.

Hopefully with Thome leaving, this will deflate the ChiSox enough so that my Tribe can overtake them and I can win a bet with my sister for the first time in years!
