NFL 2009 Week 2 9/20/09

Jacksonville is in danger of being blacked out for its season opener and possibly all home games for the rest of the season? That's really sad. I would expect some other markets experience that.

My Birds are hosting New Orleans tomorrow with the very hot Drew Brees at the LINC. (How could I forget I always capitalize that?) Donovan will not play, but our draft pick from a couple years ago, Kevin Kolb will get his first NFL start. Jeff Garcia will be the backup. It's amazing how many Pro Bowls and other awards rank among the three QB's: Donovan, Vick, and Garcia that will be watching Kolb from the sideline. Last time Kolb was in an NFL game vs Baltimore last season it was terrible. I couldn't watch that game, I was at a restaurant family gathering. Let's see what he has. The Defense needs to be there. They were there Week 1.

Giants - Cowboys; Grrrr. Come on space asteroid! At least try to hit the Jerry Vision Giants.

Sunday Evening;
I'm glad there are concurrent seasons since the Phillies won. Magic Number is 6. I happened to call it right for the EAGLES too earlier in the month. I said there would be one loss in September, I felt it. It sounded more possible when I heard Kolb was starting. I only said one in September though. Kolb executed his plays but the Defense and special teams was not hot.

DA BEARS

Houston: Nice doing that over Tennessee

Jets - very cool.

So the Steelers, EAGLES, Tennessee, New England did not win. Teams that usually would be the favorites. Even the Raiders won. What a Bizarro weekend.

Hey umm...why don't we focus on a bigger problem...you know, the Panthers being 0-2 and all? And Jake Delhomme stinking it up as usual?

Dallas - Giants game was very entertaining. Dad was right: just let the hated teams fight it out back and forth if you don't have those least of two evils picked. It kept that tempo. I respect Jason Witton but that was great to see him kick the ball off the back of his leg into the Giants player's hand before Halftime. The ramifications the Giants now have within the NFC East: I don't like that.

Last time the Patriots lost a regular season game when Tom Brady plays was back in November of 2006 I believe?

Last night breaks a winning streak of something like 20 consecutive games with Brady in the lineup.

The good news is, the FALCONS play the PATRIOTS next week, which I hope will prove to be good timing. It is at the PATRIOTS though, but hopefully they will still be hurt from this week's beatdown.

The eagles got absolutely smashed by the SAINTS. Something tells me the same result would have occurred if McNabb was playing.

The Browns were so into their quarterback controversy that they forgot to prep the rest of the team for the season. Browns fans want to know when their franchise will be arriving. My guess is when the NFL expands again.

I am out as a browns fan. As much as i loved the team for so long, i am sick of it. I have joined up with the Steeler nation. I tried to hold back becuase they had been always my team, but its time to part ways.

I bet the Pats rebound. I also agree it probably would have been the same result for the EAGLES if Donovan was in there too. Funny how I turned my back to take care of something in the 3rd and then craziness ensued. Our Australian experiment punter is so inconsistent. The Defense got a sack or two but otherwise played patty cake.

I'm surprised Romeo Crennel already has his own Coors commercial. Surely not as funny as Herm Edwards. It's probably the most serious commercial.

Good for which team? Probably for Atlanta since they are on a roll?

As for my Houston TEXANS, it was a great bounce back after a discouraging start. I'll take a roller coaster (up and down) season over the many 2-14 seasons we've had in our past seasons. I actually like my team being the underdogs, just because there is no pressure and no one expects anything of us, so it makes it a lot easier for us to watch knowing any win is just a bonus. It's always more fun jolting our opponents knowing they were supposed to beat us and not the other way around.

By the way, this is the same team that barely squeaked by the winless Detroit Lions (had to battle them tooth and nail for the victory) at our home, and barely squeaked by the Tennessee Titans last season. Results like these suggests that the discrepancy probably isn't that wide of a gap between the best records and the worst records. I really do think any team has a chance to beat any team (or lose to any team) in the NFL.

Aren't you the same person that ripped apart Andrew for switching to the Steelers?

Oh yeah, you were.

I got a kick out of Chad Ochocinco putting 4 Bengals fans in the Lambeau Field endzone. When he scored a touchdown in their endzone he ran up to them to do the Lambeau Leap. The Bengals beat Green Bay too.

I just wanted to jump in and mention the Bears beating the Steelers. I feel good about this coming week too. I think the Bears will win against the Seahawks but that's another thread.
