Not just the Yankees, but the Knicks had the highest payroll for so many years during the Isiah Thomas era, far higher than the second-highest payroll, all for without a single playoff win.

ElBarto, you have a point that New York teams and fans generally can't seem to accept the notion of rebuilding the right way as evidenced by resorting to taking on financially expensive contracts with limited success results. Over the many New York fans I have come across (in person and online), the word "rebuilding" almost seems to come across as a swear word that they don't want any part of.

But at the same time, it is what it is, and you just have to accept it.

So I guess I should be saying "Congratulations Yankees and Yankee fans, you've found a way to take the fun out of baseball."

But I will say this, it's definitly fun to see the Yankees lose.

Cole Hamels - Step up tonight. Put on your Halloween costume even: Man. If anything we have J.A. Happ in relief.

Cole Hamels had a good start but it didn't last. A-rod came out of his funk and hit a 2 run homerun that hit a camera with its nose extending off the fence - weak. Afterwards the Yanks scored a run almost every inning. Petite had a bad start but got better over the night. Swisher, Swish-Splash, came out of his funk to get some Yankees runs. Jayson Werth hit 2 homeruns. Carlos Ruiz had one against Phillip Hughes. The Yankees won 8-5 taking a 2-1 Series lead. I'm hoping for a big Philadelphia day on Sunday since the EAGLES will host the Giants at 1 and the Phils will host the Yankees later at 8. Ohhhh what a vented day that will be for the rivalries.

Ryan Howard is still in a funk. Howard, Utley, and Victorino have to come out of it and hit.

Did you jinx it?

Good win for the Yanks tonight in Philly to take the 2-1 lead.

Nope - did not jinx it. J.A. Happ came in as called. Yeah there was no photo moment of Yankees prancing around.

And gave up a HR to Swisher who has been absolutely atrocious.

The Yankees sure know how to intimidate teams. They get behind 2 or 3 runs and man they just start to deteriorate.

Sorry to say, but the Phillies looked defeated tonight. Mr. Howard ain't swinging too well and he's supposed to be the gold. Pitching was okay, but the Yankees just know how to capitalize on mistakes.

I'd say if the Phillies don't win the next two, the title is probably the Yankees'. Going into Yankee stadium down 3-2, well, its a challenge.

I'd go so far as to say that tonight is a must win for the Phillies. You can't leave yourselves in a spot where you have to win 3 straight. 2 of which would have to be in the Bronx.

Tonight is a must win. For our doubleheader I'm glad the EAGLES did their job to give a better tone for the night going in.

I hated Swisher all year actually. His name never caught on to me. I wondered why my cousin's fiancee got that number this year.

I like Joe Blanton's Red Socks. Already we hit A-rod and Johnny Damon.

A-Rod strikes again....literally!

And now the Yankees really do not even want to play another home game, as the next game could very well seal the series and season.

The World Series has not seen a game six in several years, can this streak continue? We'll find out tomorrow.

Those Phils are streaky in good swings and bad. I'm not really angry at Lidge, it's about coverage that allowed Johnny Damon to get another base, that traitor to Boston I won't forget. The Phils have a very tall task ahead. No matter what I've been a Phillies fan before, now, and will continue into the future.

We have Cliff Lee coming in tomorrow to pitch for us. Yankees have a 3-1 lead.

Left for the liquor store to get a Slurpee, it was the top of the ninth, two outs and a 2-2 count on Damon. I'm thinking, great, this innings over, by the time I get back the Phillies will be up batting.

Walk in the door, Yankees are up 7-4. WTF?

The Phillys might win tommorow, but then having to take 2 in the Bronx will be tough.

It would be tough in NY but first things first: Fighting through tomorrow. It's not good the top of the lineup has been struggling. These type of up and down streaks have occurred all season for the Phils. So Damon, A-rod, and Texiera got hit tonight. Joe Blanton did alright.

Backs to wall: LET"S GO! Go Phils!!! Cliff Lee, Bring it.

I thought it was going to be a blowout, but we were fighting until the end. At least we took 2 of 3 in Philly and come back to the Bronx with a 3-2 lead. We're ready to feast on Pedro.

We're going BACK to New York! A 8-6 Phillies win over the Yankees. That was the finale from South Philadelphia, the last home game of the year. We will see what happened with Shane Victorino getting hit on the hand. Off to the Bronx. Another shot at life. FORCE A GAME SEVEN.

There is a mission in Game Six: to survive again and force a next game.

Of course the Yankees pegged a Philly, its cause A-Rod's been beamed 3 times in this series and he even whined like a little girl about it on Sunday. They should throw one right at A-Rod's head Wednesday night, just for good measure.

I love rooting for the underdogs, but damn Phillies, you've got your work cut out for ya! When the Yankees can get knees shaking in Philly during the 9th with 2 outs when they're down by 3 runs, just imagine how its gonna be in NY during those final innings. Eek!

You must be kidding me. How ignorant can you get? He got hit on the hand trying to bunt and had he not been bunting he could have easily gotten away from that. Not only that but AJ went to go see if he was okay. Didn't see any of the Phillies pitchers do that. So Victorino gets hit on the hand once and starts crying his way to first, but A-Rod gets hit three times in two games and can't complain? The intelligence level in this thread has dropped.

We took two of three in Philly. I'd say that's mission accomplished.

I hope the Series ends after 6 games. I hate to see repeat winners (like back-to-back) and I like to see teams win the series on their home turf.

Mr. Shane Victorino doesn't cry. He's not afraid to talk either. He's pretty sly, fast.

I didn't think A-rod cried either on Sunday but he did stand around like a prince.

In the Governor's Race today here in New Jersey Red (Chris Christie) crushed Blue (Jon Corzine). I would like to see Red sweep across New Jersey again. I vote for Pedro tonight.

Pettitte vs. Pedro? Is it 1999 again? Wow.

He's wearing down. Jason Bay and Matt Holliday are on the market though.
