| 2009 MLB World Series
The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees will meet in the 2009 World Series. The games will begin Wednesday in New York. During the 2009 MLB All Star Game the American League won, thus getting homefield advantage for this World Series. Cliff Lee will surely be the Game One starter for the Phillies. Go Phillies!

And CC will go for the Yankees. He has been excellent so far this postseason. 1.24 ERA, 3 wins in 3 starts, 20 Ks through 22.2 IP

My cousin in Boston already told me she has seen cookies with "Let's go Phillies" wrappers on them. We would have loved to get CC back in Philly so we could rattle his head like we did in the Phils Brewers series last year.

I like to see the phillies repeat and keep the yanks where they belong. Plus i like to see Cliff Lee get a ring. I think he deserves it.

^And Sabathia doesn't? It's been 9 years since NYY won the Series, they have a bunch of new faces and a new manager (not to mention a new stadium). I'm pulling for the Yanks. Besides, Sabathia is one of the few AL pitchers that LOVES to hit in the NL parks.

Cliff Lee is pretty good with the bat as well. He adapted over quite well.

Sticking with a team through heartbreaking years then finally making it, well now, that's different. As far as I'm concerned, once you join the Yankees you don't deserve anything. They always seem to have a "Yankee advantage" that we saw so clearly from the umpires in the ALCS, and they're made up of the "if you have a bad season you're canned" mentality (unless you're Jeter). If someone handed me $25 Million to play ball for the Yankees would I take it? Of course. But if we won the WS it definitely wouldn't mean as much to me if I were on an underdog team and won it, and I most definitely wouldn't feel like I deserved it. |

Well yeah CC does as well, i guess whoever wins will be good, because honestly both do deserve to get it.

I've mostly been good this season, just reporting like normal. I put the celebrating from the end of last season behind me to begin focusing on this season in April when the Phils appeared to still be celebrating and didn't catch on with wins at first in April. We had to put the pedal to the metal. I put it all aside and focused like the Phils because the fans knew and the team knew anything short of returning to the World Series would be a failure. Finally they've made it: the reining, defending World Series Champions are returning to the World Series to try and do it again. Most of the season the Phils played with the target on their back that being World Champions gets them. It's time for the New York Yankees to have worry about US. The quest is on for WFC 2.0. (Check out the Chase Utley Championship parade speech if you didn't know what that's about.) Will Don Zimmer have first row sideline seats Game Two? Pedro is pitching for the Phillies.

And if El Barto had a brain he would realize that the Yankees haven't won a title since they started buying up big free agents like crazy after 2000.

^How about this...If people were better informed, they would realize that the Yankees haven't won a title since they started buying up big free agents like crazy after 2000. And the reason I support CC is for the fact that he had it rough against Boston in 2007. Then last year, Milwaukee killed him by pitching him on 3-days rest on 4 consecutive starts!

ElBarto, I can completely understand how you feel about stockpiling highly talented players -- kind of like "the rich getting richer" thing -- but a lot of teams from other sports try to do that and not just the Yankees. It is usually widely frowned upon by fans everywhere. But the teams that do that are taking a major financial gamble as well as gambling with their image, and sometimes teams are unsuccessful and lose that gamble.

The Yankees are a prime example of why MLB needs a salary cap. They're allowed to take pretty much every great player they can get their hands on and build teams capable of making the playoffs year after year. Every other major league sport has a salary cap, so why not baseball?

New Yankees Stadium was mostly quiet tonight. Were the crickets still around? The Phillies won 6-1, with 2 Chase Utley homeruns, a Raauuulll Ibanez RBI. Cliff Lee went the complete game. UnbeLEEvable. You are the Man. What a Game One. The Philadelphia Phillies lead the Series 1-0. Is Don Zimmer coming tomorrow? Pedro Martinez starts Game Two for the Phillies at Yankees Stadium.

Lee owned us last night. Tough loss, but that's why we play 7. Pedro is pitching tonight so I expect the "Who's your daddy?" chants and bats to be in action.

Really not surprised by the adolescent attack from the Yankees fan...real classy Martin. New York Yankees fan reputation continues to precede itself... Quote:
As for the game: Man I could feel the breeze from A-Rod and Tex's swings all the way here on the coast of Cali! 0-8 with 5 strikeouts? Peee-Yuuu! I knew the key was getting ahead of them in the count (which Angel pitchers couldn't do the entire ALCS). Nice game by stud-man Lee! Its great that someone (Utley) eventually tapped Sabathia's mundayne fastball over the fences. Man I love watching the Stankees get beat. Go Phillies! |

^So are you saying that all Yankee fans are just like Martin? Sure seems like it. It's funny. The newspapers here are saying how "hard it is going to be to watch this year's World Series" because of the participation of former Tribe players and manager. THIS Tribe fan really doesn't care. I just hope the minutes I watch or listen are entertaining.

I'm voting for Pedro tonight. Every game is a new battle involving these two titan teams. Don Zimmer, make a cameo.

^I'm going with Pedro too. He has the ability to pitch with the same ferocity and command as Lee did lastnight. And if he does he'll cut through that Yankee line-up like butter. Quote:
I'll repeat myself...I said fans like Martin are one of the reasons I will never be a Yankee fan. Perhaps you should be criticizing Martin for upholding and embracing the poor Yankee fan image of classlessness and bigotry that has followed them for years, instead of criticizing me for calling him out on it. |

Money. Some teams got it, others don't. End of story. This is just how the MLB functions. I could generalize the fans of any other team into a category called "whining about how much money the Yankees can expend while my team has a farm system (ignoring veteran Yankees like Posada, Jeter, and Mariano Rivera who came through the farm system) and doesn't buy championships like Yankees who have failed to win a championship in 8 seasons)." Fans like El Barto are just jealous. You can be sure if whatever team he supports had the same payroll as the Yankees he would be all for it.

I'm not going to say that ALL Yankee fans are classless, like I know that all Buckeye fans are not classless (just the ones I run into). But everyone has their stereotypical view of team fans...

But, you have to agree that ANY baseball fan would agree that the differences in payroll make the league unfair. To me, it sucks the fun out of it watching the Yankees make the playoffs year after year because they can afford the players to do that. It's the exact reason why I stopped watching Forumla 1. M.Schumacher just kept winning year, after year, after year. It sucked the fun out of watching when you can just predict who the best drivers and teams will be.

AJ Burnett had a big night for the Yankees. Pedro Martinez did alright but Texeira and Matsui got homeruns. The Series is tied 1-1. The Yankees won 3-1 and the Series moves to Philadelphia. It's in OUR House now. The Phillies succeeded in getting a split.

But will they succeed with Cole Hamels on the mound with a 6.75 ERA in the postseason?

That's Cole's job to go figure it out. He already got moved to Game Three from Two for the situation. Pedro was the better choice for Two. Both Jeter and Howard seemed shot down in Game Two.

Sorry man, I'm not one of these "my teams need to win it all in order to have a good time" kind of fans. My favorite teams come down to the style of baseball they play. They don't require 6 big bats to come through with home run after home run in order to win a ball game. Its no fun watching a ball game where home runs are hit over and over by guys getting paid ridiculous amounts of money. Its no fun watching a team buy their way into the postseason year after year. Its predictable, and it ruins the game. I like a team that fixes what they need here and there, and works with what they got. Scrappy guys maturing through experience. Fast running games with sacrifices, turning singles into doubles, make that 1st to 3rd turn on a base hit. Teams that don't have a "Yankee advantage" when it comes to calls behind the plate and on the field. Teams that don't have Tim McCarver and Joe Buck sucking them off the entire postseason. It would be nice to see guys like Teixiera and Rodriguez going head to head, instead of playing grab ass on the same team. Bottom line, like Ryan mentioned, its just not fun watching the Yankees acquire top player after top player year after year. Especially when doing so doesn't even result in a World Series for the past 8 years...I mean, really, I start to feel bad for you guys. Thinking buying your way will win championships, and you can't even seem to figure things out. Its especially "yawn worthy" when guys like Rodriguez go 0 for 8 in the World Series with, what is that now, 5 strikeouts? Ouch. I mean, if these guys can't get it done with their billion dollar stadium and limitless payroll, it just goes to show what kind of force would they be without the pin-stripe ego...
