Newbie ... And Slightly Disturbed ...

... Because I just finished updating my park and rides list. The last time I counted the coasters I'd been on, it was only 70. Now I'm up to 90! And the list of rides ... Forget it. It really freaked me out.

Anyways, intro. Hi, my name is Jillian, I'm a Florida native who lives in a small town called Panama City. I started riding roller coasters before I was born (my mom was on Space Mountain 2 weeks before I was born), and my first job was at Miracle Strip Amusement Park out here on the beach. Yes, I ran the Starliner before it was sold, and all I have to say is that CG had better keep the old brake system on that sucker, no computers for that ride!! I lived in Orlando for 6 years, and spent 5 of those working at Universal, and a few months at Sea World, too. I did testing on Dragons and Hulk, as well as most of the other rides in IOA, and worked at Kong, Quake, and Jaws at USF. I was in the Mardi Gras parades (even got paid to learn how to stilt-walk), Halloween Horror Nights parades, houses and streets, and did various crowd control and production assistant jobs around there, too.

What else ... I love NASCAR and going to concerts. I have a dog, Sita, and a flying squirrel, Bellatrix (Trixie). I'm going to be starting school to become a certified vet tech and hopefully get a job at Sea World or another park that does rescue / rehab of marine mammals.

HI EVERYBODY!! ::waves::

**EDIT** ohh, *THAT'S* what the little "parse links" button does. Sorry, I'll turn it off.

Good grief, how many Charlotte people are on this board? LOL, I'm going up there to visit my sister for Christmas (she works for TSA at the airport), and I should be moving there in January to work at a dog daycare that is opening up.

There's a few of us around here. I'd say about 5 maybe more.

Looks like you'll be on that list in a few weeks.

What area of Charlotte are you moveing to?

No idea yet. My sister lives in Lake Wylie, and she says that her apartment complex has openings, so I might be moving in there. She says the dog daycare is going to be in downtown Charlotte, so at least it won't be too far of a drive. And I have to live in SC because I own a flying squirrel, which I understand are illegal to own in NC.

I know, we go there every time we visit my sister. Her daughters are Kaylee (6) and Allie (3), and the little one can't wait until she's big enough for the coasters.

Hey Jillian,

Welcome to ThrillNetwork!

You’re an animal lover; I guess that’s why you hang out on that Zoo Tycoon web site . I didn’t know someone could own a flying squirrel as a pet. In fact I’m not completely sure what a flying squirrel is (I’m sure I seem dumb for saying that).

Too bad about Miracle Strip; I wish I could have gone there while it was still around.

Anyway, if you have any questions or anything don’t hesitate to ask one of the staff we are all more then willing to help, as our most of the members.

Welcome to ThrillNetwork, from what I've read about you, you'll fit in fine, you seem to have a lot of knowledge on coasters and rides and such.

This is April Fool's Mom

Hi everyone, I'm Jillian's mom, Linda. I'm also the grandmother of Kaylee (6) and Allie (3), the future coaster creature. We've already taught them "arms up" and "air time is fun". Allie will ride anything that she's tall enough for (we're investigating getting a "rack" to stretch her, also platform sneakers), and she makes us measure her at every ride to see if she grew since the last one!

Yes, I was on Space Mountain two weeks before Jill was born (I only gained 8 lbs), and yes it's true she was born on April 1st. I was also at the 24 hours of Daytona and the 500 a couple of months before she was born, hence the appeal of NASCAR. It also helps that my cousin's son, Brendan Gaughan, drives the 77 in the Craftsman Truck Series (and in Nextel last year)--gotta love the garage/pit passes!

A little about me. I was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Northern Virginia. I am a proud graduate of Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!).

I've probably been riding coasters long before most of you were born. I rode my first woodie in 1952 at Glen Echo Amusement Park (long since closed) right outside of Washington, DC. It was the junior-size version of the Coaster Dips and it took three more years before I was tall enough for the big one. My dad could hardly wait for me to grow! I also rode the whip over and over. Loved the bumper cars, too. My dad was afraid what I was going to be like when I was old enough to drive, but bumper is in the name of the ride for a reason, right? We used to ride the SS Mount Vernon down the Potomac River a couple of times each summer to Marshall Hall Amusement Park. We went to the Jersey shore and Ocean City, MD each summer. The major park I remember in NJ was Palisades (again closed I believe). We rode all the rides on the boardwalks at both beaches.

I went with my grandmother to visit her sister in California in 1957 and went to Disneyland for the first time. Rode everything in sight and she rode most of them with me. The only one she wouldn't get on was the Matterhorn, said she wouldn't ride what she couldn't see. She was probably about the same age that I am now, and I say bring 'em all on, the faster and higher the better! I look forward to riding with the little ones in the future.

I remember visiting PKD and BGW both shortly after they opened and riding my first steelies, Loch Ness Monster and Drachen Fire.

I was living in Clearwater, FL when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971 and visited it on my birthday two weeks later.

I came to Orlando for a "tourist industry" preview of Universal Studios before it opened, and thanks to Jill working for Universal I got to ride everything in Islands of Adventure before it opened to the public.

I currently live in Orlando, but am planning to move to the Charlotte area early next year. I've just got to get closer to the grandbabies! I'll miss all of the parks down here but look forward to being closer to Borg and the Virginia Parks. My favorite ride of all time is Apollo's Chariot at BGW. I just love speed. . .hmm. . . coasters and NASCAR, seems like a perfect pair.

My favorite parks are PKD and BGW. We go up there for vacation each year and take the grandkids with us. Best new ride--Firefall!

My motto is "growing older is inevitable, growing up is optional". If there's a female version of Peter Pan, I'm it. Also, I'm stuck back in the '60's (best decade of all!) Just ask Jill.

I can't wait to meet some of you, especially those in the Charlotte area when Carowinds opens again. We already have passes for everyone in the family for '06.

Any of you in Orlando, let me know if you want to join my "farewell tour" of Universal, Seaworld and Busch before I move back to the chilly north.

Sorry this is so long, but I had a lot of years to get in.

That sounds kinda freakish, but oh well.

Anyway, welcome to TN!

EDIT: Just make sure you don't join and forget after a while, like most people do

Come on, you know any self-respecting coaster freak isn't going to abide by those words for very long.

Yes, I agree. Ignore one of our more interesting members since we don't allow humor on ThrillNetwork. I know most people miss that in the TOS. Asking if someone is hot as a joke is so offensive. Diesel should be banned.

Hey Linda. A big welcome goes out to you too. Look foward to meeting you all next season at carowinds.

More than likely i'll be working there again so always stop by Top Gun and say hi.

Maybe we should throw you a welcoming party once you arrive.
