| So...Why Thrillnetwork?
This may have been done before, but I felt in the spirit to create a Thrillnetwork love and appreciation thread for our community. Here you can can share with each other and personally answer the question --- why of all amusement park and ride related communities online...why did you pick the Thrillnetwork community? What makes it so special to you? What do you love about it? Why is it that you choose to be involved here? How does it compare to other communities you may have patronized in the past or are currently involved with? And for some of our members that have been here for awhile...how and in what way do you think you have grown in the way you interact on TN since you joined? Feel more than welcome to include other things such as memorable and stand-out moments. threads, and members you remember here in from the past. It should be interesting to read everyone's testimonials. Last edited by Chris L; 12-07-2006 at 01:03 AM. |

I joined Thrillnetwork after Danimation switched to RCTB*tch (esentialy it's death). When I first signed up here I enjoyed the TNPP and RCT discussions, as well as the construction and general ride/coaster/park discussions. I also just had a general disinterest in TPR and New Element.

TN is Big, has the best developed track/park swap, and just owns all the others! All the cool unfinished parks I and others have in RCT... Yeah, good 2½ years TN, good 2½ years...

Uh.. I came here back from the thirllride days.. Didnt have internet at my house... So I had to rejoin in sept 01... (when school started back up) Uh yeah.. I came here because I didnt like Buzz... So TN/CF was the only thing around. TPR didnt have boards yet. But once they opened. They just OWNED TN(and also pwnt WestCoaster). Look how many members they have... 19,000. Uh... I like the DB TN has.. But it could be better.. Search sucks.. Sometimes when I look a ride up its the 5th or 6th ride on the list... (Search for "Chang" - http://database.thrillnetwork.com/db...cksearch=chang ) I have been here for so long I just dont care anymore. Most coaster sites bore me to death.. As do most coasters. I dont even know why I still ride them. Oh hey look.. 9,999th post... |

I worshipped ThrillRide back in the day, because of the reviews. I remember the day that the look of thrillride changed, then they added messageboards. I signed up on day one, then maybe a week later, Thrillride died, then was changed to Thrillnetwork. Visiting TN is a daily habit for me. I've done it everyday for the last 5 years....and....yah, I don't know. It's like an extended family here...even though some of my favortie members have left.

Moving this to the town square (which better fits it).

Might as well go through my whole history. It all started back in 92 when I was a wee lad...I first rode Blue Streak and my impression of roller coasters was scarred. The next year I returned to CP and rode Jr. Gemini and CCMR, and fell in love with roller coasters that were mild. In 96 I became slightly more confident and started riding Wildcat and Iron Dragon, though I still cowered at the size of Mantis or Raptor. Yet I still really enjoyed the whole Amusement Park Atmosphere; the screams, the smiles, the smells, the sheer size of a roller coaster, and the sense of adventure. In 99 was when I became truly enlightened and rode every coaster at CP. As I was leaving the park that year, I was handed a pamphlet that should the upcoming coaster for next year, Millennium Force. It has listed the website, CP.com. That's when I started discovering the internet and used a search engine to find ThrillRide. At about this time, my friend also became very interested in roller coasters, so it was always a topic between us when we hung out. After school, one of the things we did was check CP website for updates on the MF diary, and also read the hilarious rumors, especially the one at the end. (WTF was it called? It was like "The Lunker" or something and it was just some kid saying, someone told someone told someone this many feet high and this many inversions, and it was always disgustingly farfetch'd.) At this point, I found rcdb and really started to expand my knowledge. One of the most exciting days was watching the MF promo video. To this day I still draw the symbol in random places, and to this day I still get the shakes when I watch the video. After an entire off season of watching the diary and videos religiously, my friend and I went on a school trip to CP and got in line. Back then they had assigned seating and you couldn't pick the front or back, so we got, what we were assigned. And when the host said you're front row, I almost purged. After the immaculate ride I was sealed as a roller coaster enthusiast, and started checking ThrillRide daily. From what I remember, I saw that ThrillRide was shutting down, so I stopped visiting, and then a couple months later I decided to recheck and I was lead to Thrillnetwork. At this point, Jubilee Odyssey was on it's way to being built, and I was very eager to discuss the alleged 200ft inverted loop. As you can see, I also had a rich history with CP, so I was excited to express myself. Well who would of known that I would become one of the most infamous CP fannboys of TNs early years, and I say that with pride. I was still somewhat young and from reading all the ThrillRide rumors, left my vocabulary undeveloped, an online jargon(used to put z in place of all s's, ie CedarPointZter), and frankly most my arguments were invalid with little or no factual base backing them. Buzz had Jeff whom would not allow such posts. But Thrillnetwork let me share ideas and let me understand what I needed to do to make other members agree with my statements, eventually develop beyond being a noob. Another thing that lured my into Thrillnetwork were those Avatar's. Sad as it may be, I used to calculate in school approximately what pace I would have to set myself to get that Heartline or Hyper Poster.(Which eventually led me to create MBSS back when everyone had their little groups.) At this point I want to just mention a fews name from around that time that I believe are no longer with us. Medusa1861, Honan Beetch, Amy, DeKalb, Natelox, CPFan, CoasterCameron, Limacoasterboy, Antfarm007, edh101985, may the FORCE be with you, CrystalKat, MST3K_Freak6666, miXmedia, SFGadvKing, X-Cellent, Dr. Bruce Banner, RiFT, Rebel2000, General Public, Coalmine. After a while I used Thrillnetwork as a source of review for potential amusement parks I could visit in the area. In 2003, once I got my license I did a massive Eastern Coast trip which included 111 new roller coasters in 5 days. I had such greats memories, I found a love of writing trip reports to share my experiences with others. I personally love going back and reading them. Today I continue to use Thrillnetwork as a source of Amusement Park industry information. From time to time I like to throw in my 2 cents on hot topics, and try to share much of the information I have acquire over these past years. Am the same time, I have found a love for working at amusement parks and the deeper and deeper I go each year, the more I realize I need to keep my mouth shut on forums. Thrillnetwork has implemented an instinct in me to correct wrong information, but revealing some things would complicate references and you have to just let the mistake go. I am very thankful for this site and the work the moderators have done and I hope to see the site go on for a very long time.

I could draft up a huge testimonial, but one big "thing" I love and must mention about our community right away is that a good number of our "regular" members seem to be somewhat intelligent, and if even if not, at least type with proper spelling and grammar. It makes everything here appear "cleaner" and a more attractive playground, if you will, to prospective members hoping to join in on discussions without trying to figure out what --- "OMG1!11 TEH OTHR DAY I WUZ LIK3 PATRIOTZ SOOOO GOOD. ITZ TH E BOMB~" means.

The history of how Santa came to be at ThrillNetwork is shrowded in mystery. Some belive that Santa saw Alex floating down from heaven on a flaming pie...oh wait...wrong story!!1!!!!!11 Actually Wes' (for those who haven't figured out who I am) story kinda goes like this... I was surfing one day on my super-slow first PC and I ran across a banner ad for the site. I normally don't click banner ads, but this one seemed different. I clicked the link and the rest is history. For some reason TN has been the best fit for me. In the early days it was a little crazy around here with Kraken's drunken raging and all that stuff. I took a break until about 2003 then I came back and have been here ever since. TN is part of my daily life (if not hourly). On slow days at work you'll probably find me surfing TN (although those days are few and far between lately). Guess that's all for me. Be good little boys and girls...or else!

I love Tn because its alot more serious and fact-based. i just love that. 'Certain' websites are too crazy and some of them people are really childish. I prefer Thrillnetwork anytime!

Also to tag along to what I said before and in response to Worm's post as well... Being an editor/story writer you get to see another side of things. You get to see the credibility or lack-there-of of some sights. Many sites will post anything (example: the recent stories that popped up about a Harry Potter park, which turned out to be false) but TN really strives to be credible and get its facts right. Also, I've seen that several parks really have seen the value in our website and they see value in what we do here. That says a lot! Many parks don't even think websites matter. I've seen them post things like "oh! you're not the REAL press." Uh, excuse me. Have you seen how many Youtube videos that made it to CNN? (a lot) That's what I thought.

Since I dont post here much (anymore), I figure, hell, why not! TN, hummm, let me think. I joined the site when Kingda Ka was in speculation, and when construction was just beginning. From, their, I started to become post happy and posted everywhere I can. Always reading the threads, and trying to keep up with things. Besides my friends, this site help me get into coasters more then I was. But, TN is more then just forums, it also has a great ride/park database, and a NL/RCT ride exchange dealie. Its a great site, and their are the fun moments. Now, I come to the site, read, and really dont post. But, I am starting to get back into it, starting with this one ![]() I also see that Carowinds and James have reached 10,000 posts, congrats. Its been a while...

ThrillRide was the first coaster website I visited on the computers at school, and I followed the discussion over to TN and the coasterforum. When I finally got a PC it was the first site this was the first site I went to. I can still remember that purple and yellow color scheme.

I actually didn't find ThrillNetwork, it found me. I was asked to be the "rumor chick" on In the Loop. So that night I signed up for ThrillNetwork and the rest is history. I find the content on here is better then other websites and that its updated frequent enough to keep my attention busy.

Like wildfyre I read the RCT 1 danimation forums often (a site which has long since died) and TN wild rumours every Tuesday since mid- 1999 (there was no forum then). I joined in mid 2001 not long after the forums started, I don't remember how or why, I guess it was probably through the old thrillnetwork site. Mostly i remember the old TN site with reviews of individual rollercoasters. Haven't met any members, as mostly they are USA based, but hope to get a long planned US trip in the near future |

I think almost anyone that joined these forums in May 2001 was probably captivated by Rob Coker's Thrillrides site and were brought here by it....my story was no different from that. Anyone who was at least fairly active here back in 2001 would probably attest how difficult and out of control the boards were in its first year with so many personal issues sparking a battlefield of flame wars. But as the site developed tremendously since merging away from Thrillrides and creating a new life of its own, life on the boards improved greatly and has now become a very well-respected site we all see now.

The reason I'm on Thrillnetwork is Google actually. I think I searched "roller coaster sites" and this was in the first couple of pages or so if not the first page, and I started looking at it and decided to join. But I do have to say Thrillnetwork is probably the most updated and active site on the web for enthusiast. There is allways news being posted, threads being started, and seems like a new member pops up every other day almost now. And in my opinion it is just the most interesting coaster site on the web.

I was going to BGW(E) and I was looking for info on the park and Google led me to a TR here. For some reason I joined then, I really don't know why. But I guess it was good enough for me to stick around for a while. I don't come around much anymore, I guess the forums aren't that entertaining or interesting to me anymore. I'm sort of over the whole roller coaster thing. I still follow the major developments but I could care less about most of it.

Post:^^Yes seriously Thrillnetwork right now has threads at 10:59 p.m., Theme Park Review most recent 8:02 p.m. News/updates: Thrillnetwork - 4 news articles for Dec. 13th, one for the 12th and one for the 11th, 9th, then 7th. Theme Park Review - one for the 13th, three for the 11th then drops to the 6th. So yes I would say Thrillnetwork is more active and updated more often.

Do you realize TPR has about 300,000 posts and more than 19,000 members in about 22 months? Compare that to ThrillNetwork's 650K+ posts and 13,500 members in five and a half years.. there have been 34 threads with posts in them today at TN. There have been 39 threads active today in TPR's "random" forum alone. Both sites serve different purposes and I don't care which you prefer to visit, but TPR is as [if not more]"active" than TN. |
