| College Students: Your Major(s)/Minor(s)
In this thread, all us college students are going to get to know eachother's major(s) and/or minor(s). I kinda want to get a insight of what people are doing now, and where people wanna go after college, or what you want to do after. (If you don't know, no worries!) I attend San Jose State University www.sjsu.edu, my Major is a BA in Radio, Television and Film with a Emphasis on Digital Audio. I chose this major because I want to use my passion for music in more technological and "hands on" style. The courses involve mostly radio related materials, as well as running and operating the campus radio station. So far I like the Major. It involves the two things I enjoy most: Technology and Music (or Audio I suppose). My Minor is Music. I've been playing the Bass Clarinet for about 7 years now, and I wanted to continue to play as well as stregthen my knowledge for music. Courses range from really fun (Performing) to pretty boring (Music History). After college, I'm not exactly sure what I would like to do. I am leaning towards graduate school to really polish my skills and hopefully get a job as a sound technician or work for a production company specializing in audio. If everything could go my way, I would really hope to end up working for THX. So, what are you guys studying? And where do you hope your studies take you?

I attend The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (www.uoit.ca). It is the newest university in Ontario (our first graduating class is 07) and is the first laptop based university in Canada (I believe). The school gives us [crappy] laptops at the beginning of each school year loaded with programs we may and may not use. Costs us around $1500/year for the piece of crap IBM Thinkpad. Anyways, I'm majoring in Comprehensive (compared to Mecatronics or Energy Systems) Mechanical Engineering. It's a difficult major, and right now I'm on a reduced schedule to help lighten up the course load. I'm working my arse off to get my grades up and hopefully apply to Disney for an Internship. I'm also looking at enter their ImagiNations competition. After university, I really want to be an Imagineer, or design coasters (like most of us), but know this is a hard path to get into. If I cant get into that, I plan on trying to get into an engineering firm dealing with transportation, such as railways, aircraft, or naval. I've always been fascinated with Disney and Rollercoasters, so of course they'll always be my first choice and my ideal target. But, I've also always loved trains, planes, and boats, so a job with a company like Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, or even a cruise liner would be awesome too. However, there are tons of Nuclear Plants around here always looking for engineers, so that's my third option. But, if I ever get an opportunity to work for Disney, or a coaster firm, you better believe I'll drop what I have and go for it.

I'm a Civil [Structural] Engineering student at the University of Looking For a New One with an associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology and I'd like to double major into Mechanical [someday, lmao]. I have the dream of being a coaster designer, but I have such broad interests I could get into building or automotive design, bridge or aerospace engineering, etc etc. "Doctors kill people one at a time, engineers kill them by the hundreds." |

I am in my last semester (unbelievable) at the University of Florida. On May 5 I will receive a BA in journalism, my major being telecommunications and my minor being English/Film Studies. My ultimate career goal is to be a film editor. I've got a couple internships lined up so far and will be moving out to Los Angeles probably in June to be a poor, basically homeless college grad for a few months while gaining unpaid experience in the field. I will miss this place. College goes by fast |

I'm a freshman at Jefferson Community College, in Downtown Louisville, Kentucky. I am currently working on a major in Business Management, and have not fully decided my minor, perhaps Writing. I dont intend on graduating from JCC, but rather transfering over to the University of Louisville to complete my education. I am hopeful that years from now I will have a solid foundation to start my own business, and making myself a successful entrepreneur.

Also a ways back...I started at Kent State University (1995-2000) as an Accounting major, switched to General Studies, then to Computer Science. I'm only about 54 (credit) hours away from a Bachelor's. Don't ask me when I'll graduate.

Graduated class of '94 from a little college in the California redwoods called Bethany College. BA in social studies with a history emphasis and a minor in Biblical studies. Since then I've learned there isn't to much that history majors get to do except teach, and once I learned that teaching wasn't really what I wanted to do it's been an interesting exploration of other careers supplemented by extra college classes here and there to fill in the blanks.

The 30 above gave me a nice raise, and I possess the necessary qualifications to apply for a principal or assistant principal position in the state of New York. I am currently a HS computer teacher in Brooklyn, New York, and have been doing this for 11 years now. Amazing how time flies. |

I am a proud student of Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ. I'm in my 4th year here at MSU as a student in the Leisure and Tourism program here. My full major title is, *takes deep breath* "Recreation Professional w/ Concentration in Commercial Recreation and Tourism". With my degree, I'll be able to go into anything in the leisure field. It can be commercial, public, or non-profit. I usually tell people I can do anything from hotels to cruise lines to amusement parks to restaurants. It's basically the business of fun. Our program was in the College of Sciences and Human Services when I first transfered into it from History, but it has finally found it's true home in the School of Business two semesters ago. We're shoved in under marketing at the moment, but they are working to make us a full program in the School of Business. Thanks to the move, I'll graduate with a degree from an Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredited degree. This will allow me to drift into mainstream business if I so choose. It's also an added bit of prestige to add to my resume. We also boast a great relationship with the Walt Disney World College Program. Our school has been involved with it from it's inception, and they actually look towards our school for great employees. We've never had anyone get fired in the program's 26 year history, although one person did come close. The head of the program at MSU is an honorary citizen of Disney as well, lol. We have a ridiculously acceptance rate for the program, so if anyone's looking to do an internship there, it's basically up to them to lose it. This is my last semester on campus. I only need to do my full time interhship to graduate, and if Disney accepts me again, I should be spending my last days as a student in sunny Florida.

^Hey, there's a branch campus of Gainesville State that I drive by to go to school every morning. All of the students drive Bimmers and Hummers that they can't afford. Wheee! But back on topic.... I sent in my housing deposit yesterday, so as of right now, I'm attending the honors program at Georgia Tech and majoring in civil engineering (structural) with a minor in aerospace engineering. I hope to start off with sophomore status (I have around 40 credit hours from AP and college enrollment classes) and enter the 5-year BS/MS program offered by the College of Engineering (which I hope to finish in 4 years since I'll start as a sophomore). Those are my current plans, but in the future I'd like to either design commercial aircraft or roller coasters.

Ugh, Georgia Tech is so tough. My friend went there for a semester, and just couldn't handle it. All work, maybe like a 5% female student body, nothing to do.... maybe Bimmer will fit right in.

I go to University of North Carolina - Wilmington and major in Film Studies and minor in Political Science. I write screenplays. If I can't get them made by other pros, I will make them independently. If I can't do that, I will turn them into books. Also may work for the ACLU or some other civil libertarian group in the future. |

That's crazy, but I don't know if I'll see him, since freshman get the worst housing on campus and everyone else gets the good dorms from back when the Olympics were in Atlanta. What about jimmy? Did he go to Tech too? Actually, this year has the largest percentage of females in history, 28%, haha. They were bragging about that during one of the campus visit things I went to, but I really don't think that's something to brag about when their archrival has a 60% female population. Oh well, I guess it comes with the engineering focus...

I'm a sophomore changing from Mechanical Engineering to Business Administration at UCF. I got way too stressed out with calculus and physics so I decided to take a different route into theme parks. I'm looking for a possible minor in accounting.

Well my major is Mechanical Engineering, at the evil locale of acedemic slavery known as Georgia Tech. Right now I'm a sophmore, finishing up my first work semester in the co-op program. I might minor in something computer related; I don't know yet.

yeah but I started every day in Skiles during my first semester, and then the AE building 3 times a week my second semester... unfortunately that meant walking up the stupid hill, often just as the obnoxious whistle blew too...

I'm finishing up my freshman year at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire in northern Wisconsin. I'm majoring in Public Relations and probably minoring in Spanish. Dream job = PR at any theme park. I think that would probably be the greatest job I could ever dream for. Campus is very nice up here though, lots of green space and we are on a river. Bad news is the giant hill between the dorms and the rest of campus which can get real annoying on nasty weather days.
