But when you get perma banned you have to wait like over a year before you can get back on.

Actually, whether or not you even have any chance at all of getting a perma-ban overturned depends heavily on why you got perma-banned, and whether or not your contributions before the ban were beneficial for the site.

VERY few perma-bans get overturned. Few ever will. Best bet is to not go there, rather than try to get back.

There is a difference between indefinite suspension and a permaban. Perma-ban is just what it means....permanent. Indefinite bans have a chance to be discontinued or overturned at Steven's discretion, hence what happened in your case.
