| SFoT- Fright Fest & Fast Lane (dag nabbit...) Park: Six Flags Over Texas
Date: October 20, 2001
Overall Impressions (for the day): 6/10
It's amazing to see just what a huge crowd can do to a park. We arrived about 3:30...and parked in the third row....from the back! Ah, well, the glory of season passes. I've never ever ever never seen the park so friggin crowded! The shows even required reservations (well, sort of...). This was my first fright trip to SFoT, and I felt that the theming was good, but not great.
Then....I saw it...the dreaded symbol of all parks...FAST LANE. I had so much hope that we wouldn't be dumb enough to install this terrible system. I had two encounters with it...that really ticked me off. Ah well...
Rides/Attractions:
MINE TRAIN- Rating: 7 out of 10
I love this little mine train...a fun, exciting coaster for the whole family. The section out of the 1st lift was great, the tunnels were dark, and as always, the drop at the end was superb.
ARANIA'S NIGHTMARE (show)- Rating: 6 out of 10
The show was okay...but the plot was inconsistent and weak, and sometimes the songs were...out of place. However, the set was excellent, as was the actresses who played Arania & Claire.
VAMPIRIUM (haunted walkthrough)- Rating: 7.5 out of10
I don't like getting scared...just to start this report off. However, it looked interesting and I wanted to see what it was like. The entire attraction was set in the bumper cars (strange). The whole setup is that you're walking through a haunted 1801 village. There were several cool effects and I hate it when the step from behind a wall...and the "moving statues"...sheesh...
TEXAS GIANT- Rating: 10 out of 10 (YEAH, BABY!!!!)
I rode TG at night; it was my last ride of the night. We waited just over an hour...and boy, it was more than worth the wait. This also happened to be my first time to ever ride in the back row or this masterpiece, and my expectations were very high.
I was blown away.
It's amazing to see just how sitting in one seat can change your whole ride experience...in the back the coaster is relentless the whole journey; there's beautiful air time on every drop and head choppers galore. The perfect ride.
The only downside- I was nearing the stairs near the station when all of a sudden, Fast Lane attacks! There must have been some mess up; they let in front of us what must have been 30 people. Darnit! But the ride made up of it.
The park is wonderful...you gotta get down here and ride the Giant. (now tied for my #1 coaster of all time!!!!)
