Herseheypark 6/21/01:My first post

Before I start this post,I wanna introduce myself because this is my first post.

Back about 2 or 3 years ago,I was terrified by coasters and wouldnt go on many,as of right now,I've riden 29 different coasters(I don't get to many parks like ACE members do)and coastering is one of my favorite hobbies. My 25th coaster I rode was over the summer at Hersheypark.

At about 3:30 on 6/20/01 my Dad and I began a drive to Hershey PA where my Aunt lives, and where my now favorite park,Hersheypark,is.We stopped for lunch at Bob Evans, and around 6:08,we arrived to my Aunt Carla's house, she hadn't come home from work.it neared 7:00 when my aunt came in.My dad and I were watching the Pirates get ready to slaughter the Phillies when we went to Applebees to eat dinner and watch the ballgame. When we were on our way,we drove past the park, and the second I saw the Wildcat,I knew i was gonna ride that first thing the next morning. After dinner,we got home and I was ready to get a good sleep for the next day.i fell asleep no problem, but I woke up around 4:20 that morning and went downstairs to watch T.V. the rest of the night. My Aunt Carla went to work around 6:30,and my Dad woke up around 8:40.my dad and I got ready to go,ate breakfast, and we made the 6 minute drive from my Aunt Carla's to Hersheypark.

When we got there, there wasnt a cloud in the sky,and the parking lot was almost empty. We then made the half mile walk from the parking lot to the front gate and I was amazed by the beauty of the park.As we entered I was so amazed at the park's beauty I almost cried. We then headed for the Wildcat and i was just simply amazed by the ride.I then thought the ride was closed, but the station was just empty except for workers, and trains with only about 4 people in them were running. It seems longer to walk through the que than it does to ride the Wildcat.
This is an overall good ride with some air, great turns, excellent drops, and walk-ons.I got 3 straight rides in the front, without getting off.Our next ride was the Lightning Racer. My dad was anticipating this one since we passed it going to Applebee's the night before,so he made me sit in the front of the "Thunder" train.
The ride is fast, wicked, and completly out of this world. To continue our Wooden Coaster Marathon,we went over to the Comet.I really like this ride,non-stop action, great air,and classic fun.our next ride was the inverted Great Bear. This was my favorite of the day, great helix, loop, immelman, and corkscrew. We then had a short drink break before yet another walk-on, SooperDooperLooper.I really liked it,I wish Anton Schwartzkoph was still here to see the smiles of everyone on the ride, god bless his soul.We then took some time off the coasters, and rode some relaxing rides:monorail, train, and ferris wheel(i rode the monorail 4 times without getting off).I then rode the trailblazer.it was gay, caise closed. My next ride was you gussed it,another coaster, wow i love these things. It was the classic Vekoma Boomernag, the Sidewinder.Great ride, but too much headbanging.I wanted to cool down from the uncrowded, hot summer day by riding some water rides.I started with Canyon River Rapids,I got soaked.I then rode Tidal Force,I got so wet and cold,I hated the ride, that thing was more terrible than N*Sync and BSB combined,i'm serious.Nothin much happened the rest of the day,I just rode alot of coasters AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN.......and I ate dinner, went to Zoo America, and Chocolate World.

i was there from opening till closing and got a combined total of 28 coaster rides. The place was like a Ghost Town.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and welcome to Coasterforum. I went to Hersheypark this summer for the first time and I loved it! The bestold fashioned-type woodies outside Kennywood. Except you were much more lucky then me. The day I went was the day it seemed like every school in Central Pennsylvania took a field trip there! It was crazy. Anyway, I rode everything and I'd have to agree that the Wildcat, the Comet, and the Great Bear were my three favs. Glad you had fun.

the best thing to do is go on a tuesday wednesday or thursday in june, everything is a walk-on(my longest wait was 10 minutes for the antique cars).

also,i was a co-winner of the ride naming contest,i also entered "roller soaker".i sent an e-mail to the park, and the guy that must have been incharge of the contest, chris barret, responded saying that he wasnt able to give me any kin of prize, but he told me that he admired my attitude and told me if he was able to pick any person who came up with that name to be the winner,it would have been me.

i know this was kinda off-topic for this oard, but i thought since it was my TR from hershey,it would be kinda appropriate.

I agree. The only coaster that was really disppointing was Trailblazer. Easily the most boring mine train I've ever ridden.
