HisDougness's Trip to SFMM - 12/2

According to Mapquest and to a friend, it should take me 2 hours and 20 minutes to get to SFMM from my hometown of Escondido (just north of San Diego). I left with my 7 friends (Dan, George, Jeremy, John, Laura, Amanda, and Jessica) at 6:50 am and arrived at the mountain at 8:49 am. At one point I did look at my car's speedometer and saw that I was going about the equivalent of S:TE's max speed (I then decided to slow down).
So anyway, we had some time to kill before the park opened, but eventually we did get let in.

It was not crowded at all, but we still ran to the Orient Express so that we could hit up Superman first. Of course, we got to the summit and S:TE was closed until later in the day, so we walked on to Riddler's Revenge. I got two front seat rides, and that ride has never been more intense. The slight rain that morning had been enough to affect the brakes' performance, and the brakes on RR weren't even slowing the train. I always forget how awesome and perfect RR is... it is certainly my favorite ride at SFMM.

We hit Batman up next, and i tried it shoeless just for the heck of it. It was kinda cold, but an interesting experience. Batman is still smooth yet disorienting... still a great ride. One thing I wonder about Gotham City though... how long are those "building a better tomorrow" signs gonna be up? They've been there forever, and no work ever gets done.

Next up was Goliath. The line wasn't long, but it took forever because SFMM was only running one train operation on every coaster. Jeremy and I took a middle seat, and I accidentally stapled myself in when i leaned forward, so I didn't get maximum airtime on the 3rd hill (but i still got a good amount). Although I love Goliath, i have to say that Nitro (my only other hyper) is ten times better. The drop on Goliath didn't cause me to lose my stomach like Nitro, and the cars just plain suck compared to B&M cars. There is no legroom on Goliath, and B&M's raised seating really makes the ride better. But really, the difference is in the airtime... I wish Goliath had a couple more airtime hills.

Superman finally opened, and so we hit that up without a line. The launch was good, as always, but the ride isn't too special. Jeremy spit his gum at the top and it floated there as we fell back... that was cool. I pulled my legs up at the top to get airtime and instead got a killer leg cramp. Dan expressed his discontent with the ride with a thumbs down and a bruised elbow, caused by being taken unaware by the launch.

We headed to Baja Ridge and did Viper. I was going to ride with Laura and torture her for the next 2 minutes as soon as the OTSR engaged, but she caught on to me because of my evil grin and so she refused to ride with me. So i rode with Dan. And that's about all I have to say about Viper, because I don't remember the ride too well. It seemed rougher than normal, and I did almost black out on the first loop for some reason.

Revolution sucked royally. It was rough and unmaintained. And it made Jeremy turn green. He said that he always goes on the huge rides and then goes on a weak ride and gets sick (like the straw that breaks the camel's back). Well he got sick on the Rev. We got off and he was a very nasty pale green color (Dan took a pic, i'll post it on the member pics post as soon as i get it). That was it for him for the day.

We rested for a minute and Jeremy turned back to his normal color. So we went to Delayja Vu, which was awesome. Although loading/unloading takes forever, it has good capacity and is well worth the wait. It's sorta uncomfortable getting pulled up backwards, but it is one cool ride. Vekoma deserves to be commended for this ride. It was B&M smooth and intense as hell. Plus it had some really impressive/innovative features: vertical lift/drop, cable lift, double spine track, comfy seats/restraints. Deja Vu isn't my favorite ride in the park, but it's up there for sure after RR and Goliath.

We were going to do Colossus, but the wait was too long (1 train operation). And then we were gonna do Goliath again, but the girls wanted to ride the carousel. So they did. And then we left, because we were all tired. And I almost caused 4 accidents on the freeway on the way home because I was so tired.

As a side note, X looks insane. I really want to ride it. As we pulled into the park, I was talking to John over our 2-way radios (car-to-car) and these were my words:
"Yeah, we made it here in really good... Oh my God, there's X!!! Holy ******* that is insane! I had no idea..." And then i trailed off and started speaking gibberish because i was so astounded. Trust me, if you think X is overrated, go look at it. It is one insane looking ride.

So anyway, i hope you enjoyed my novel! SFMM rocks!

another good way to get hurt on superman is to turn around back and look at the top but leave it that way so when it comes back down your head gets like crushed

Oh so you're just being facetious with your signature? That's cool, i feel the same way. I've been to SFMM a few times, but nothing (no, not even a big, smooth orange beast called Goliath) can compare to the yellow and purple hills of Nitro.

i had the chance to get some rides on Nitro this past summer, it's an incredible ride, cereinly blew me away, but Goliath's Helix is something so intense and incredible, so , i guess i have them as a tie in my book....

I rode Deja Vu when i figured a lot of people would be at lunch, and it wasn't that bad... we waited for maybe 30 minutes. It could have been a lot worse. Deja Vu has possibly the most wretched capacity i've ever seen a coaster exhibit. It takes 5 minutes to load and unload. I'd suggest either hitting it early, hitting it at lunch, or going on a day when you think no one will go to the park.

I think I figured out why they were possibly only running 1-train operation the day I went. There was rain that morning, enough to make the brakes not work as well... perhaps they can't run more than one train when the brakes aren't working effectively.
