| | | Cedar Point - 5/17 The day started out great and ended just as great, with a few bumps on the road in between. The weather was pretty damn cold all day, the wind chill was about 35, and I was dressed for Spring. Not very smart on my part.
When we got there there were a ton of field trips there, and this one teacher came up to us and asked if we wanted to get in for free with his school, because they had two people that were absent. I said heck yeah! So the day was great already, depsite the weather. We headed over to Wicked Twister first. Wicked Twister
All I can say is wow. This impulse blows S:UE out of the water. I did not miss the brake at all. The twist while looking down is just incredible. The pool in the stadium looks about the siaze of quarter when you sit near the back. The speed and height really add a lot to the ride. Add in to that just a 5 minute wait!!! Rating: 10/10
We headed over to Millennium Force next, since the NCE's that I was with had never ridden it. Millennium Force
The wait was 45 minutes, but as usual it was worth it. I do think that it has slipped down to number 3 on my top CP list, with the addition of WT. The ride seemed smoother than last year, but not quite as fast and not as much air. Maybe it was just me. We were in the red train. Rating: 8/10
The line for Mantis was super long (over an hour) so we decided to skip it for now and head over to Mean Streak. Mean Streak
As you probably read over in my other post, the trim was off on this beast! It is was true walkon, there was hardly anyone in the station. When we hit that first drop I was shocked that the trim was off. I could see why they do have it on sometimes though. I am only 16 and it about threw my back out, but that was why it was so fun. It seemed really out of control, which was the way it was meant to be. Rating: 8/10
We took a quick spin of CCMR next, but you all know how terrible that ride is. It almost comes to a complete stop before entering the helix. Gemini was next. Gemini
To my dissapointment the blue train was stopped just after the helix but not quite in the station, so only red was open. That kind of takes away from the ride, but it is a good coaster nonetheless. The wait was about 20 minutes with only one side open. I got a quick glance at the "footers" behind that wall and they do really look like coaster footers, but I have no clue what could fit in that small of a footprint. Rating: 6.5/10
We rode a few flats next of the way to Gemini. The Spider, Witches Wheel, and Chaos. All three were pretty good s usual. Next up was... Magnum
I hate to say it but I almost like Maggie more than MF now. Once again a true walk-on. We walked into the station and got right into a train. The first drop still takes your breath away. It was a good doggyilly go out along the lake today though. The airtime coming back after the turnaround was awesome as usual. The ride op didn't staple me in either (I am pretty big) so the air didn't kill my legs like usual. Rating: 8/10
Power Tower was next, we did the Space Shot side. Not too long of a wait, awesome air at the top, as usual. We headed out to the car for a quick bite to eat and to warm up. By now it was about 2:30, so we had ridden pretty much all of the major coasters in 4 hours, with some flats thrown in there too. After luch we headed over to... Raptor
WOW! I forgot how much fun this coaster is. It has regained the top spot on my list. For some reason I am just not liking hypers/gigas as much as I used to. I didn't fell the crack at the bottom of the first drop like some others said they could. The G's you pull going through the helix were great. Super ride. Rating: 9.5/10
DT which is "now in 3D" was next. Disaster Transport
The glasses really don't do much at all except make you really dizzy. They are only a buck though, so what the heck. The theming in the queue has all been redone. It is all painted with this neon paint that allows it to be 3D. Pretty cool. There really wasn't much on the ride that was 3D except some of the starts on the track. Not a bad ride, but not great. Rating: 5/10
My worst ride of the day was next... Mantis
We waited an hour to ride this POS, and I knew we shouldn't of, but the NCE"S with me insisted on it. The only benefit of waiting for it was we got to see MF's yellow train get stuck on the crest of the hill twice. It didn't have much speed at all through the run though. After waiting an hour the ride was much better. The damn ride op had me in a very, very uncomfortable position, and as you know I broke my leg this January, so it didn't really like the ride too much either. The headbanging was really back as well. Rating: 2/10
We got in line for antoehr spin on MF after that, and right when w got to the bridge the yellow train was stuck in the loading station, and blue in the unloading station, and the red on the brakes. We kept thinking they would fix it, but the trains would remain in those postions the rest of the night, so we kind of wasted an hour right there.
We headed back to Raptor only to find that is closed "due to wether conditions." What these conditions were still baffles me. The weather was different now than at any other time during the day. The bright thing is we did get two walk on rides on WT right before they closed off the line, so that pretty much made me forget about the previous two and a half wasted hours. The second and third rides on WT were just as good as the first.
Overall I had a really good trip. The crowds were pretty big for a cold Friday in May, but most of them were field trips. The lines were really small despite the crowds, except on Mantis where the crew was extremely slowm and rude. They really need some work. There was some major stacking going on there. The second train would sit on the break for a good 2 minutes before the one in the station would leave. If my math is right 2:42 ride time plus 2 minutes sitting on the brake run would mean about a 5 minute loading time, which is way too high for CP's standards.

| | | Good report! Wicked Twister sounds great, and I'm shocked that Mean Streak didn't have the trim brake on. I can't wait to ride it now (I'm one of the few that loves Mean Streak)
About your ride on Millennium Force.. they recently replaced the wheels on the ride with a different material than they usually used. This is causing each train, and especially the red train, to travel a little slower than usual, which may explain why you didn't get as much air time.
I've never seen anyone give Mantis such a low rating! But I agree, it does need a lot of work done. Could you tell if they ever put the 3rd train back on the track? Last year, it was off all season and that caused extremely long lines.
Also, have Magnum and Mantis been repainted? Supposedly, they were supposed to get paint jobs for this season.

| | | The third train on Mantis looked as if it hadn't been touched for some time. Also, part of the low rating was that my leg is not completely healed from breaking it yet, so it kind of hurt.
No new paint job for either ride. Mantis is getting real bad. Magnum ran pretty smooth though.
I knew about the new wheels too. They went back to the compound they used in 2000. I really didn't like them very much.

great report, glad the weather (kinda) worked out for you--especially after the hit-or-miss week that the point had seen.
good to see they've at least transferred yellow onto the track.

| | Good report. Glad you had fun! , oh and by the way, Mantis IS a POS. I seriously can not understand why anybody would like the ride. It's becoming the successor to Iron Wolf... |

It's becoming the successor to Iron Wolf... | Well I like the ride. I like almost all roller coasters, except for Flashback. I really don't understand why everybody hates Mantis Does the ride make you sick ? Does the ride make you unhappy or mad ? Does the ride make you evil ? You may probably think im crazy but I like Iron Wolf too.
All I have to say is if I have fun on a ride then it is a good ride. |

| | | If you have ever been on antother B&M standup (like Georgia Scorcher) you would know why we hate Mean Streak so bad. The handbanging on Friday was almost unbearable on Friday because by this time my ears were pretty much frozen solid.

| | | I was at Cedar Point for the first time on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th. I got on Mantis on Sunday and I was really dissapointed. The ride op put the seat so high up that it hurt. I kept putting it down before they locked but he kept coming back over and kept putting it really high. And the line was SOOOOO SLOW!!! I waited almost 2 hours to have my head bashed around. It hurt so much. I really was dissapointed with Mantis, and its crew. But.... everything else in the park I loved. I'll have a TR coming soon. |

Since when they put on OTSRs on Mean Streak?
This would be have been the first wooden coaster to recieve OTSRS! And it does not even have a loop!
Im sure you meant Mantis, not Mean Streak....
As for the Mantis crew, i growl at them if they try to staple me into a position where I may become sterile...they usually back off when I do this. Believe me, I look scary when I growl...

I really don't understand why everybody hates Mantis | I don't hate the ride, its just too painful to ride. Figure, when it first opened it was great, smooth, yet demanding on the body, but tolerable. Now I can tolerate rough sit down and inverted rides as you are sitting on a seat, and your behind is planted firmly on the seat, but being a man and having to straddle a bicycle seat, a rough stand-up is very uncomfortable!!! And I do ride it properly (feat planted firmly on the floor, sitting up straight.) These days I've found the Sky Rider at PCW to be a more comfortable ride.
I've not ridden Iron Wolf or Flashback (theres a ride that deserves stand-up trains ) so I cannot comment on either. The only other B & M ride that gives me headbanging is Kumba at BGTDC. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
