| The Carnival is In Town!! (Mods, I don't know if this is the right place for this or not, but it's not really a park ... Move it if you think you need to.)
Trip Report: Town Center Spring Carnival & Fiesta
The carnival is in town! That is, if your town is Fort Worth Texas. Murphy Brothers has brought their traveling carnival to the parking lot of Town Center Mall (in south Fort Worth. Don't go to the mall. It's really run-down and kinda scary at night...) My wife and I went to the carnival today and I wanted to share this info. with anyone else living in the area.
First of all, here's a run-down of the rides we saw:
Chance "Inverter" (First time I ever rode one of these. Schweet!)
Sellner "Tilt-a-Whirl" (A classic)
Wisdom "Tornado" (a "swing" ride with 4-seater spinning chairs)
Fabbri "Foot Loose" (a floorless version of their "Kamikazee")
Wisdom "Starship 2000" (Spinning, stick-to-the-wall kind of ride.)
Chance "Giant Wheel" (Giant Ferris Wheel with 6-person gondolas)
Carousel (with 30 Jumpers and 2 Chariots. No stationary horses.)
"Cliff Hangar" (A spinning "flat ride" where you ride laying flat, 3-across in hang-glider looking cars.)
Himalayan (everyone's favorite flat ride)
Majestic Int'l "Scooters" (Bumper Cars)
"Water Bumper Boats" (Your typical bumper-boats)
Moser "Free-Fall" tower (a small "Free-Fall" tower that never really free-falls. It was all controlled -- down, and back up, and back down, and up again ...)
Chance "Chaos"
Chance "Zipper"
Wisdom "Sizzler" (their knock-off version of the Eli Bridge Scrambler. Still fun.)
4 Fun Houses (some better than others ...)
A ride-through Haunted House (not worth the cost ...)
"Super Slide"
Several Rides for the Kids:
"Rainbow Rock" climbing area with a slide
"Bear Affair" (kids ride inside giant fiberglass bears that spin)
"Orient Express" kiddie coaster
Hampton Wave Jumper (a circular ride on "Jet Skis")
Circus Train (I forget who makes this one ...)
"Kiddie Bumper Boats"
And the two signature attractions were:
portable "Zyklon" Roller Coaster (Z40 Model, by Pinfari)
Zamperla "Turbo Force" (didn't get to ride it, but it looked insane!)
(There were also two partially-completed rides sitting in a back parking lot. Not sure what those were or why they weren't being used ...)
The carnival was great. All of the rides were in great condition and put together well (unlike some carnivals where you feel like you're risking your life just getting strapped in to the rickety rides there ...) and there were no crowds. The ride ops were really friendly and would let the rides run for a long time. There were even a few times the ride op asked us if we wanted to stay on the ride and ride it again. And on the bumper cars, there was no sign saying "Everyone must travel in a clock-wise direction" or something to that effect. It was a total free-for-all (like bumper cars are supposed to be!) There was also a travelling Mariachi Band, singing and playing off and on throughout the day.
Prices were a bit steep ($1 a Coupon, most rides taking 3-5 Coupons.) Luckily they were offering ride-bands for $20 a piece (a steal, if you ride more than a few things.) Two things -- they apparently don't offer the wrist bands during the week, and the wrist bands are NOT valid for the "Turbo-Force" or the "Bumper Boats" (These had separate $5 tickets. I can understand about the Turbo Force. But the Bumper Boats? What the heck?)
The food selection looked and smelled wonderful (we went after lunch and already had dinner plans, so all we got there was a candy apple ...) Food prices were about what I expected.
It'll be in town until May 27 (Memorial Day). If you live in the area, make sure to stop by and check it out.
