What is the closest park to London?

Hey. My sister is going to NYU's summer program in London this year. My parents and I were planning on going sometime to visit her. Since i hate planes this would probably be my only time going and I would really like to go to a UK park. Which one is closest to London? Does it have quality rides? I really want to go to Alton Towers but I'm not sure how far that is from where my sister is. If you're from the UK can you please help me? Thank you so much.

Well the park nearest to London is Thorpe Park where Collossus is, of course, and where Calypso is being built right now. The park has the standard rides, log flume, rapids plus a few new thrill rides and stuff. It's a good park for a day visit.

Alton Towers is about a four hour drive from London depending upon what time of day you do it.

About the same distance as Thorpe Park is Chessington World of Adventures where the newly rennovated Vampire is. Chessington has some great theming but is targeted at a slightly younger market.

Hope that helps.

I think I'll move this to Travel Tips, as that is fundamentally what's being asked here.

If I'm not mistaken, Alton Towers is sort of on the way to Liverpool. You'd have to check with an atlas of some sort though, because I'm not one.
