Smile Pki 6/11/02

It all started as we arrived at about 9:15 A.M. (45 mins. early) at PKI. The weather looked like it was going to be terrible. We got there an went over to where the park was cutting us off on the way to Tomb Raider. When we got there we decided we didn't want to sit still for 45 mins. so we walked around until about quarter til 10.
At 10 it was a mad dash for Tomb Raider and we got on the first ride. The theming was very good and it was fun to look around for the little time I got to. As we entered the room where the video is played I couldn't help but notice how cool it all was. Then we entered the ride. We got in and sat for like 5 minutes waiting for everyone to get in correctly. Finally the ride started. I wasn'tvery impressed with the ride. There was too much sitting still and not enough action. The part where we hung over the lava upside down was scary but it hurt a lot. It was way too short. Overall a 2/10 for "this ride."
Next we headed over for a walk-on ride on The Beast. We sat in the back seat and the ride was very fast and had just the right amount of roughness. Great ride! My only complaint was that there were too many straight parts with no action. A bunny hop with some airtime would have been great during these times. We later had a ride in the front which was great too. Overall a 7.5/10
After that we went to Vortex. A very good ride. I was actually suprised that it wasn't a really big hang-banger. I liked it. My favorite part was the back-to-back corkscrew. We rode it 2 times. Overall a 7/10
Then to Flight of Fear. The building was very cool inside and it was a walk on like the 3 other rides we had been on. I was suprised that it wasn't darker. I knew exactly what was next all of the time. I later rode it twice with my eyes closed. Those rides were so much better. Overall a 8/10
Then we went to another walk-on at the Racer. We got in the backwards train because it was the only one running. It was alright and would have been much better if the other train would have been running. Overall a 3/10
It was about noon and I couldn't believe how much I had gotten in. We were hungry and headed over to the giant La Rosa's Pizza place. (I think that is what it was called)

I will finish this up later.

After lunch we headed over to the Son of Beast. We waited about 15 mins. for the 3rd seat. I wasn't really impressed with the ride. The drops were great and the loop was really cool but the helixes were just so rough and uncomfortable and after the loop was over I was thinking... "please let me off this ride" It didn't help that my buckle got pulled so tight because I slid down in the seat to reach for my wallet because it was falling out of my pocket. My legs are still sore one day later. This time I gave it an overall weak 4/10. But later it would prove me wrong.
Then it was time for the most boring and short ride of the day: Top Gun. I think they should have tore this thing down instead of King Cobra. The walk to the station wasn't even worth the ride. The woman behind me summed up the ride very well by saying "This is BULL ******!" Overall 1/10... Piece of Junk!
After that we headed over for some re-rides on Beast, FoF, SoB, and went on a very nauseating flat ride.
Then we went on 3 water rides which were alright. We were already soaking wet when it started raining. We sat under the shelter at the Vortex station and waited for the rain to die down and to get dry. Then we headed over to Tomb Raider to give it another try. It turned out to be much better but still not as good as it should be for qall of the money spent. We had to of done more than twice as many flips as we did the first time. Guess it had to break in. This time it was an Overall 7/10 BTW, a worker there told us they have found 7 cell phones in the lava/water with lights at the bottom.
After the ride we decided to play some games. My friend and I won 2 basketballs, a medium sized stuffed red bull, a giant stuffed banana, and a mini gnome that I later droped off of the FoF. Pretty good games. Better than any other parks games. More winnable.
Then we went for another ride on FoF which was a lot of fun.
We were next to 5 kids that were vandalising in line and got in trouble.
After that we went and got for SoB again and it started to rain, thunder, and lighting again so we just sat under the shelter for about 45 mins. and waited for the ride to test than start up again. We got in the front seat and it was awesome. It was amazing how much of a difference a slippery track and the front seat made on the ride. The wind was so strong that i could barely keep my arms in the air. This time it was a 9.5/10. Millenium Force is my only 10 and SoB wasn't better or as good.
Then we met my dad and went for our last ride of the day on Face-Off. A 15 minute wait was in front of us and which was very good for the 2 hour wait earlier in the day. The ride was very different and a lot of fun. As I was going up the lift I couldn't help but think how screwed I would be if the person in front of me got sick. Overall the ride was a 6.5/10
It was about 8:40 as 3 very tired and hungry people walked out of the park and went home.

Weather: sunny with 2 thunderstorms during the day (typical Ohio weather, I am used to it by now)

Crowds: Very little crowds but the people that were there were mostly annoying and dumb. (read more about it in my thread in American Parks)

Overall: Great park. This experience was better than my experience at CP in May but not as good as it was at CP in September. Overall a 8/10

Thanks for reading this long report and tell me what you think!

Sounds like you had a pretty good trip. I did notice that there were 2 coasters that we had very different experiences on though.

Vortex has a great layout, but was only the second Arrow that I can say really banged and bumped me around. It definately wasn't a smooth ride. Good evidence if you are outside the ride, go to that vantage point where you can see the trains entering the boomerang and you'll see everyone's heads snapping as it goes through that maneuver. Ouch!

And I just don't get how people can not like Top Gun. My biggest gripe was that I wished it had been longer. I love that swooping and swinging as your hitting tree branches and vines that dare to grow close to it. It's not an awesome, incredible ride by any means, but it's also not a coaster that is shredding itself, or it's passengers, apart. While it might not be a 9 or 10, it's certainly much better than a 1. At least in my opinion.

Nice. To bad the weather sucked. Sounds like Vortex is cool. I'd like to ride it b/c it looks sweet.

I will give you a little piece of advice when riding SOB: sit in the MIDDLE row of any car, and you will get the best ride. In those seats, IMO, you will get Beast roughness and SOB speed.

I like TG, but like stated before, its too short.
