8/24/02 SFNE & Lake Compounce

I had planned a trip up to SFNE, and then realized lake compounce was on the way there, so I decided to stop there too. I had never been to either park before, so I didn't know what to expect.

First up, is SFNE. Upon entering the park, headed straight for....

S:ROS :I immediately realized this coaster was gonna be worthy of the hype. Once you enter the superhero area, there is a fog filled tunnel right along side the walkway, which the ride rockets thru. Really got me ready to ride. The drop is great, the speed is good, there is alot of airtime(more than any coaster Ive been on), and the misty tunnels just cap off what is now my #2 steel(sorry, to me MF is #1).If you ever have the chance, ride this and you wont regret it!!! 10/10

Batmanark Knight :This ride was ok, but thats about it. If you've never been on a floorless before, you'll love it, but I have been on others(Medusa, BKF) which were much better. If there is a major problem I have with the ride, it is very short. The Zero-G roll is great, though, as always. 6.5/10

Thunderbolt : Classic woodie. Wait was very long, with 1 train operation. Ride was not overly fast, or intense. There wasnt much airtime, either. One positive, this was very smooth. 5/10

Cyclone : This ride looks large, and intense, and it delivers. If i had to think of a word to describe it, it would be VIOLENT! Not in a bad way though. This ride shakes you up, throws you around, whips you back and forth, but wasnt really painful at all. While this ride doesnt have much airtime, it is fast, and gives an intense ride 8.5/10

I didn't go on Mind Eraser(my girlfriend hates SLC's) or Flashback(Standard Boomerang). Overall, the park is very nice, and clean. There are some really good coasters, too. The ride-ops load and unload times are terrible, though

Then, on to lake compounce. Didnt have much time, only went on Boulderdash and wildcat.

Wildcat- Classic woodie. A little rough, had little airtime. Overall, nothing special, but worth a ride 4/10

Boulderdash- definately a TERRAIN coaster. This ride's lift hill goes up a mountain, and most of the ride is hidden in the rocks and trees. A nice banked, curving first drop, a ton of airtme, as well as good lateral forces. The ride feels very fast, and keeps its pace throughout. Did I mention smooth as glass? Take a great ride, and add mountain, rock, and tree cover, and you've got something special. 9.5/10

Wow, you stopped at Lake Compounce and then went to SFNE and you DIDN'T complain about lines?

That's pretty cool, though. Two great coasters: a woodie and a hyper.

The lines at lake compounce were pretty much all walk ons, I waited maybe 5 minutes for boulder dash. We went to the night session, which was only 15$. While LC was nice, I dont think it is worth the full 30$ admisson.

SFNE had some pretty long waits. We went on superman first thing in the morning, the line was about 30 min. Later on, was gonna go for a reride, but the line was like an hour and 45 min, wasnt in the mood to wait that long(although the ride is worth the wait). Thunderbolt and cyclone were about 45 min each, and Batman we walked on(since it just opened as we were walking to it). The lines only got worse as the day went on. This is one park I would consider using Lo-Q for.

I think that anytime you go to a park with good rides, you are going to wait. However, I think the lines at parks like CP and SFGradv are much shorter due to 3 train operation all the time, and more major rides to thin out the crowds. If SFNE put in another major coaster, the lines wouldnt be as bad.
