Talking SFMM 9/7--A Three Hour Tour

I was out in Cali, and went to MM about 4 weeks ago, and missed the reopening of X by 3 days, so when my company needed someone to go to LA and work last week, I jumped at the chance, and scheduled my return flight for 3:30 on Saturday so I could ride X first thing in the morning. I knew I could only stay until about 1:00 in order to have enough time to return my rental car and check in for my flight, so every minute counted!

I got to the park at 9:30, and when the park opened at 10:00, I went first to the FastLane sales place (and found out both X and DeJaVue weren't on FastLane that day), then right over to X (along with about half of the people who came trough the gate). We all ran up to the entrance, only to be told that "X is not open, and we aren't sure when it will be open". A lot of people decided to stand in line anyway, but I figured it would probably be better to go over to DeJaVue instead.

I made my way over to DeJaVue, and once again was told by the employee at the entrance, "the ride is not open and we're not sure when it will be open". I was dissappointed, but decided to make the best of things and ride Superman before the line got long. I figured Goliath's line was probably already long, since the other half of the people who didn't go to X went there.

I made my way up the hill, and walked right on to the front seat of Superman. I've done STE a few times before, and I still love that launch. Always a great ride as long as you don't have to wait too long.

Back down the hill, and over to X. This time, the gates were accross the path at the start of the bridge, with the attendant giving the same "we don't know when it's going to open". There was still a line of people on the bridge, but they were not letting people get on the line. So instead, there was a second line outside the gate. After about 10 minutes of watching for signs of life around the ride, I realized there was a maintenance man on the lift track doing something, and realized it would probably be an hour or more until they were ready to cycle the ride, let alone open it.

Off I go, back towards Cyclone Bay, hoping DeJaVue will be opened. Once again, no sign of life, and this time a sign that says "This Ride is Closed" at the entrance. Dissapointed, I start walking towards Pscyclone, and I notice a kid in the Psyclone station yelling to his friends that DeJaVue is open, and there are people on it. Reverse course, and through the que I go. After 45 minutes on line I get on...back row. This is my first time on DeJaVue, and it was 100% better than I imagined. I didn't ride it when I was at SFMM the last time, because the line was huge, and they weren't doing FastLane. I knew I would be going back to SFOG this fall and would be able to ride it there (using LoQ). DeJaVue is the only "great" Vekoma coaster I have ever been on (and I've been on a whole bunch). I would definitely give it about a 9 out of 10.

So I decided to walk back towards X again, but this time the people who were waiting on the bridge are gone, and only about 5 people are waiting at the gate. The attendant says, "we don't know when it will open", but I can see more movement on the platform, which seems promising. It's now 11:45, so if X doesn't open by 12:20, I'm screwed. I decided to wait, since the end of the line was in the only patch of shade, I sat and waited. About 10 minutes later, the train starts up the lift hill...woo hoo! The line starts to grow. An employee comes down and says it will probably be a half hour until they're ready to go (cutting it close, but it should work out). So we wait...and finally at 12:25 they open the gates and walk us through the que. It turns out that there were about 2 train loads of people left on the line from the morning, and with only 1 train running and really slow turn around times int he station, I start to get worried that this is going to take too long. I get into the station and see that there is a single rider in the second row, and I ask to take the empty seat. Next thing I know I'm on X! First ride of the day!

Wow! X is amazing! Way too short, but really something else. This ride is truly one of a kind. It's so disorienting, but very smooth and fast. It's a very different experience from a flyer (I've been on SUF, XFlight and Batwing), although there are moments of "flight". I would rank it as a 9.5 out of 10 (it would be a 10 if it were just a little longer).

So that was my trip...3 rides in 3 hours. Not a bad day!

That's cool that you got to ride X. It was closed when I was there, along with STE and Flashback. I was lucky to get on Deja Vu because it was closed down most of the day.

Oh, yeah, I forgot, Flashback is STILL closed. I rode it the year it opened as ZForce at SFOG, so I know I didn't miss much!
