| SFAW trip 10-25-02 Friday night- expected to rain like no other. What do my friend and I do? Go to SFAW, of course. My brother and his friend were supposed to go also, but it turns out that only his friend went with us. No comment on why my brother didnt get to go.
We got to the park at 6:45. Looked like rain, and it was getting dark. Our first ride was the Texas Cyclone. I rode in the second to last row with my friend, while my brother's friend (Max) waited for one of the front rows. The track was slick, making for a fast ride, but the half empty train made it lag a little after the first drop. We took another ride on it because the line was short, then went to Ultra Twister. There was no line, and we got the first car that came in the station. I was in the front with a complete stranger. But the ride was running as well as it had two weeks ago, which i think was the best ride i'd ever had on this old TOGO. After that i wanted to go to barnstormer and redeem my Winterfest thing, but they hadnt opened yet. So we went to the left side of the park and took a ride on Dungeon Drop. We were in the red car, which was having some problems with the lift car. (it was making some funny noises) We got a nice view of how Houston looks when it is night time and all hell is gonna break loose. the only thing you could see was Reliant Staduim and the MEd Center buildings. Nothing beyond that. After our drop, we went to Serial Thriller, running only one train. It took 3 train loads for my friend and I to get on. Max was on in 1 train, so he had to wait. It was a tad smoother than usual, but not much. IT was running fast, and was fun enough, but nothing spectaular...as usual. After that we got some food at Wok and Roll. Luckily, we could open up the Soy Sauce this time, thanks to my new foolproof technique. The rice was much better this time also. Next, we took a ride on 8-RLX. I got in the very back row with my friend and Max went into a backwards row with no line. Ours had an extra train wait. We were going to take a ride on Greezy, but it was closed, and would be the rest of the night. We then on Batman. The line was halfway up the stairs to the station. Once in the station, we chose the second row, which we had to wait 2 trains for. It was a newer train, but it was still a little shaky...although not as much as last time. The train looked very good. The track is a different story, of course. The station is grimier than a real Gotham City. Max hadnt been on Batman yet, so he liked it. I didnt think it was bad, just that it used to be better. After that, we took another ride on Texas Cyclone. I rode in the very back row this time with someone I didnt know. The first drop on the back is great (especially with hands up) and it kept up laterals until the end. The back row is now my official favorite. After that, we went to the front of the park to inquire abuot my free ride on Banstormer since earlier I had gone by and the guy I asked was clueless. This guy was too, but said to go back to Barnstormer. We did, and when I said I was from Winterfest, she said "Oh, not yall again." She called her supervisor and he came and said we could fly. We got suited up, and went to the gate. We waited for 2 riders, and it was our turn. Cause I was the tallest, I couldnt pull the cord. Max ended up doing it, even though i think he would have rather not. The loading precess was long, but interesting enough...espcially when you think you are going to do a face plant into the raisable platform. Then, we were on our way up. All I can say about this ride is WOW! The initial dive is amazing, and so are the next two or three (full) swings. I dont know if I would pay $40 bucks for 2 of us to go, but the free deal was a great. I know that evetually I will ride again. Sometime next season that is. After that, I got an ICEE and we went home. The lack of lines and the atmosphere of the park made this trip one of the best all season...the reason I am getting a season pass next year. Even without a new coaster. Till March, SFAW. |
