Last Blast, SFGAm 11/1/02 Well, this was certainly one heck of a last blast. I would like to think Six Flags for giving us this opportunity. The night really felt more like an enthusiast party than anything else. I would have to say that there were no more than 1500 people in the park. It was 32 degrees most of the night and everything was open, including Deja Vu. It really is creepy to look down at the midways from the rides and never see more than five or ten people =)
Its not worth going through the particulars of my trip this time around. All that needs to be said is that re-rides were to be had on any ride in the park. Batman never had more than a 5 minute wait. V2 never have more than a 5 minute wait, and that was only for front or back. Iron Wolf only had a line for front. Same for American Eagle. Demon never had a line. Whizzer never had a line. Viper never had a line. Raging Bull never had more than a ten minute wait. Deja Vu started with a twenty minute wait, but dropped to five minutes by 9:00. Let me say that again: 5 MINUTE WAIT FOR DEJA VU!
In the not quite 5 hours that I was there, I rode the Rue le Dodge, 25 coasters, and had time for a pizza puff, funnel cake, and shopping. All at half price. IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THAT! It was cold, but it was worth it...especially the half price Raging Bull picture.
Shock Wave is indeed down to a bare minimum - all that remains is the lift and drop structure, one piece of track at the top, and the first loop. The station is there too. Most of the poles are in the back parking lot, but I never got a good look (security would not allow us back there to see Superman or the rest of Shock Wave). All of the smaller supports are sitting out front with the majority of the track. There was one piece in particular...It would have made the best souvenier...my friend and I could easily lift it carry it back to the car...but we figured that the ride would probably need that piece ;-) (just kidding. I would not risk being banned for life, charged with theft, or any of that...)
Never thought I'd ride a coaster in November...at least not in Chicago. I'd gladly do it again. Thank you Six Flags.

Side Note - a good post for #100 =)
