COLD day at SFGAdv- 11/2/2002

I dont know why I would go to parks on freezing cold days! I am a frigophobic..I am just crazy enough to overcome my fear of coldness to enjoy my coaster riding, I guess.

Arrived at the park at 1 pm...the park was not full...Went to get my 2003 Season Pass...got Superman on the card this time.

Went to GASM...the ride broke down as I got on the station platform.

Then went to Elivira's Superstition movie ride...it was a bit cutesy for a movie ride themed to a haunted dark ride/coaster.

Got out of the movie ride and saw GASM testing, so I ran over there. I was shocked at my behavior, but got on the last row of seats on the blue train. I was a bit shocked on my first ride....for the first time ever on all my rides on GASM, this ride was SMOOTH...yes, folks, QUITE SMOOTH! No headbanging anywhere on the ride. I was ACTUALLY grinning and stayed on for three more rides, agian smooth rides. The MCBB were on, but it didnt make the train jerk like usual..the train was stopped gracefully. I wonder if they finally replaced the crappy brakes on that section. Maybe the cold weather has something to do with it?

Went to the Chiller next. Robin was only open. Batman wasnt running at all. That was a disappointment. Finally got a chance to experience Robin with lapbars. It was awesome, especially being launched into the cold air and up into the cobra roll. The barrel roll was a bit scary since I got airtime on it on both directions! Rode in the middle.

Went on Stuntman's Freefall and to my surprise, they actually had all of the cars on it and running seamlessly. The drop was fun!

Had three cups of kickass hot chocolate....the hot chocolate were a miracle for this park!

Went to B:TR..fun and intense ride..seemed to go a bit quicker in the cold! Had another ride on it.

Went to Nitro...This ride is absolutely cruel to me! If you dont want to ride a ride and have the air freeze your face, dont ride this! I absolutely hate the cold air....the experience of having the air freezing my face solid reduced my pleasure immensely on this ride. I wanted to get off the ride as soon as we went down on the first drop. I was in the back row, hoping I would get some windbreak, but no, the effect actually made the chill factor WORSE! Once I realized my face would be numb for some time, i went for another ride on Nitro...this time around, I enjoyed the ride more once I couldnt feel the cold anymore.

Went to Skull Mountain....GASP.....A LINE!!!!! actually had to wait 10 minutes to get on! No special effects...just pitch black...It is true! The back seat does have a pop of airtime once the train goes down the first drop! I was shocked at the airtime! Anyone know why the lead car is closed off?

Went to Blackbeard's Treasure Train...cute and fun coaster....had to beg the operator to let me ride the final car. Had some nice zig-zag effects on the last seat through the course. Understood why no one was allowed to ride the last few cars...the coaster is a bit rough on the riders on those seats...I LOVED IT!

Went to Runaway Mine Train. I was disappointed that they were running ONE train...the line took so long! The coaster is more rougher in cold air! Literally hitting my knees agianst the carwall! I will ride this ride on warm/hot days....its safer to ride it then!

Went to Medusa. Seemed to go faster in the cold! Had a fabulous time! Had two more rides on Medusa.

Viper was closed...that was sad to look at it...I had great rides on it at the beginning of the season.

Rolling Thunder FINALLY has new paint on the lift! *drumroll* I hope the entire ride is painted over before the 2003 season even begins! Had a blast riding it in the total darkness..The lift was only lit.

Had three more hot chocolates......they were kickass and enchanced the taste of churros, man!

One final ride on GASM. The ride was continuing its smoothness. I was still surprised that the coaster hasnt beaten me up yet.

Then I exited the main park at 8 pm and looked through the fence at the future site of Superman : Ultimate Flight, or whatever....

Then I drove out of the Great Adventure complex at 8 45 pm

The trip scores 9 out of 10...my freezing experience on Nitro and the closure of Viper and the Batman side knocked it down, but the excellent hot chocolate and the surprising smoothness of GASM saved the score from being a low number......

Heres to a promising 2003 season with a new coaster, a completely fresh painted Rolling Thunder, and the hope of GASM keeping it's smoothness!

Cool trip report, glad you had a great time. BTW, Freefall has consistantly run 7 cars this entire year. It's capable of running 8 but did not this year at all, and only on a few rare occasions it ran on 6 cars this year.

...Waiting for 2003 to come, and my first ride on S:UF before any GP =)
