Knotts Berry Farm 11/9

I arrived in southern Cal on the morning of 11/9 only to be greeted by lots of rain. As it turns out, this was the most rain they had received in something like 600-700 days. Great trip planning, huh.

Anyways, I figured what the hell, and went to KBF anyway. It wouldn't cost me anything other than $8.00 to park since I had a Dorney season pass.

Well, none of the coasters were operating due to the rain, but it was starting to lighten up. The Supreme Scream was open, and I did get a ride on it. I couldn't see a whole lot of the area due to the rain and fog, but I enjoyed the ride nonetheless. Only one tower was open since hardly anyone was there.

After the rain finally stopped, I happened to notice that Xcelerator was about to get a few test runs. This ride is just amazing to watch in action. The Christmas tree lights up just like you are at the dragstrip, and then the '57 Chevy appearing train blasts out of the station with incredible acceleration. So much that you get drenched from the rain flying off the train as it goes by.

Unfortunately, the train did not make it over the top hat, and fell backwards into the station. This happened several times, until finally, one train barely made it over the top. However, the rain came back a few minutes later and I never saw anyone test Xcelerator again that day.

Ghostrider was open though, despite a light rain. I had ridden only one CCI prior to Ghostrider, and liked Shivering Timbers a lot. However, Ghostrider was even better. In fact, this was the most intense woodie I have ever been on. I don't know if it was the slick track or what, but this ride doesn't let up from start to finish. The heavy wooden structure also provides a fast, closed in feel with lots of headchoppers. Too bad I only got one ride in due to the rain, but that experience was good enough to make Ghostrider my new #1 woodie. Ghostrider also has the best theming I have seen for a wooden coaster with its western themed queue and station.

Well, the rain would not let up this time, so I left with high hopes of returning the next day with better weather. Got some Knotts chicken on the way out, and it was delicious. Advice: Don't miss out on the chicken if you ever go to KBF.
