| Celebration City- 06-07-03 My company's summer picnic was at Celebration City last Saturday. I had a lot of fun, but I wouldn't recommend this park to anyone unless you have a young family or you love carnival rides.
Obviously, the best ride is the Wildcat. Its a really fun little wooden coaster that has loads of airtime and plenty of lateral Gs. The ride is very smooth for a woodie. We arrived early in the afternoon and rode twice in last car without having to get out. We rode in the front later that day and got just as much airtime. The coaster is always twisting so you are constantly flung to one side or the other. At night, the only light are chasing strobe lights that run the entire length of the track. If you have been to CP, the lights are like those going up the hill of Mantis. It looks really neat from the highway. I've never seen lights on a coaster like that before.
The other two coasters, Thunderbolt and Jack Rabbit, are just small steel carnival coasters. Thunderbolt holds about 12 riders and JR holds 6. Nothing special here. They hardly deserve the title "coaster."
There are a couple fun flat rides. They have a frisbee type ride called Fireball that is a lot of fun. Another fun flat ride is called Orbiter. I think it is called a magic carpet ride, but I'm not too sure. That was a lot of fun and I came out of my seat a bunch.
They also have a scrambler, a tilt-a-whirl and a carnival log flume. They have an S&S drop ride called Accelerator thats only 80 ft tall. After being on CP's Power Tower countless times, this seems like a kiddy ride. I was surprised because they thrust you down twice.
There are go-carts and mini-golf, but we didn't do either because the lines were so long. There was over an hour wait to ride go-carts. If you really want to ride them, leave the park and drive down the strip and ride go-carts without the long wait. Same with mini-golf.
The park is very BEAUTIFUL! They did a really good job planning the park and decorating everything. The plants are fantastic and everything is bright. All the lights work on the rides which I really like. At our local fair, 80% are burned out so this was a nice change. The park is really small and it is hard to find things to do to keep you busy all day. We didn't stay for the laser light show, but people at work said it was good.
Just about everyone at work agreed that they wouldn't pay full price to get in. I'm glad that our picnic was there and I was able to try this new park out. Wildcat, great! Everything else, average. I hope SDC has future plans for this park so it doesn't suffer the same fate as Mutton Hollow and Branson USA.
