pp's road trip part 1- Hersheypark June 9-10

This was a long trip(6 days) with almost the entirety of them spent in the parks so a full out trip report is out of the question as not only would I give myself carpul tunnel, I can barely remember everything that happened on the 14th much less back on the 9th. But I will touch bases with notes on the parks and descriptions of all the coasters that I rode.

Hersheypark- It was pure hell getting to this park, what awaited us was worth it though. We left from Erie, PA instead of Bethel Park because of a wedding and thus waited a supposed 5 1/2 hour trip instead of 3 1/2. It ended up taking almost 8 hours to get into Hershey thanks to numerous road delays and heavy traffic. Thankfully we had an entire day just for the travel so we were able to get a good night sleep in before moving onto the park. The park was absolutely beautiful, but like getting to the Hershey we had trouble getting into the park thanks to more road delays.

Once inside the park...
Chocolate World was decent, but not very well done, but free chocolate and the biggest candy store(s) I've ever seen in my life...sucks that the 3-D show was extra though, that made it a skip for us
Lines were fairly long at the start of the day, up through about 6-7 p.m. in which the park just absolutely became a ghost town, every ride was a walk-on or nearly a walk-on.
The Claw was great, but I've never seen a slower loading ride in my life. The line wasn't that long but it ended up taking 45 minutes to get on it, I went on it later that night as a walk-on though.
The park's configuration can be confusing to people not used to the park, I didn't have much troubles but my parents did
The hills...the HILLS! The park can tire you out by walking about 10 feet
A girl, about maybe 13 or 14 FLASHED the on-ride photo on the log flume(forget what it's called), luckily for the ride-ops the ride was almost empty(went on it at around 7) so not many people saw the on-ride photo. I wouldn't even have noticed it if the workers weren't just staring and laughing at it
Hershey employees varied, some of the ride ops and employees were some of the nicest I've met and some of them seem to think that it's a Six Flags park
Despite every ride being a walk-on at the night(even the Great Bear) the only ride in which I could get re-rides was the Lightning Racer, coincidently the Lightning Racer's ride-ops seemed to be the only ones who gave a damn about coasters.
The park has really expanded well in the past few years...or so I can tell, an uncle of mine went to the park in 1996 and said it sucked, that made getting there hard since I had to conivnce them that the park didn't suck. I was right and they loved it, as did I.
There's still a ton of room for expanding too
Correction, Roller Soaker is the slowest loading ride ever
Death to the Sidewinder, that thing is boring and PAINFUL. Awful
The weather was great for both days, warm enough to enjoy water rides but not warm enough that they're a necessity.
My favorite candy bar is made by Hershey
My favorite candy bar was nowhere to be found in Hershey
I LOVE WHATCHAMACALLITS

Ratings
Comet
The first coaster of the trip didn't dissapoint. It's a pretty tame ride but still a good ride.
Average wait: 5-10 minutes
Rides: 3-4(forget)
Rating: 7.5/10

sooperdooperlooper
Even when the park was pretty full this was a walk-on. It's pretty tame by today's standards but still is a classic.
Average wait: none
Rides- 4
Rating: 7/10

Great Bear
The Great Bear is a Great Ride built by none other than B&M. The most popular ride in the park was a 50 minute wait the first day, but was only 10-15 for all rides after that. Partially because I waited for the front seat...partially because I went on it at a bad time, but regardless the ride was great, no matter where I sat. Tons of turns and four inversions fit into a small footpath...basically built right on top of sooperdooperlooper.
Average wait: 10-20
Rides- 5
Rating: 9/10

Trailblazer
Absolute piece of crap. It's not quite a kiddy-coaster but that's basically what it is, and even the "kiddies" I went on with hated it. It's not thrilling, it's not fun, and it's painful.
Average wait: 5
Rides- 1
Rating: 2/10

Sidewinder
It's a Boomerang. I had a good time on it though since I haven't been on one in a few years(as per usual the one at SFWoA was closed for no damn reason last year) but it's still a Boomerang.
Average wait: 5-15
Rides- 2
Rating: 6/10

Roller Soaker
As I've mentioned I hate water rides and I tried to get on this ride a little later in the day to avoid the wait...I failed. The line looked like nothing but it never moved. The ride wasn't that good, probably because I hate water, but still.
Average wait: 55 minutes
Rides- 1
Rating: 3/10(add four points if you like water rides)

Wildcat
My dad despises this ride but I loved it. The first coaster built by Great Coasters International this ride is a bit rough but that's to be expected out a twister. Tons of turns and a decent amount of airtime. The last ride of my Hershey trip was on the Wildcat, the ride-ops practically insisted that I did a re-ride and they stopped the ride at the top of the lift hill. I love it when ride-ops do this sort of thing, but the chicks behind me kinda didn't enjoy it as much as I did...
Average wait: walk-on
Rides- 5
Rating- 8.25/10

Wild Mouse
I hadn't been on a Wild Mouse since 1997 but I still remember hating them. Not much has changed since the 1997 Idlewild Wild Mouse ride. This was a decent Wild Mouse though, a couple points have been added after riding the other two Wild Mouse rides on my trip.
Average wait: walk-on
Rides- 3
Rating- 5/10

Lightning Racer
Definetly my most anticipated ride at Hershey was also the last coaster I went on there, overall I finished with a 3-5 record...bah, but I never really got a good racing experience since the ride was a walk-on every time and the rides were half full...but still a great ride.
Average wait: walk-on
Rides- 4 on each side(8 overall)
Rating: 9/10

Hersheypark as a whole
Better than I was expecting. A nice atmosphere, tons of trees, a nice zoo, and good coasters.
Aesthetics: 8.75/10
Food: 8.5/10
Atmosphere: 9/10
General Rating: 9/10

Next up: PKD

What exactly is Trailblazer. Is it a smaller steel coaster?

How long is The Great Bear? Is it like B:TR length or Alpengiest length.

I wish I could go to Hersheypark, I love their candies, and it looks like the coasters aren't bad either.

It's good to hear a really good review of the park. I'll be there on June 21-22 so I was looking for a good TR. I'm really looking forward to Lightning Racer, it sounds like a lot of fun.

I've never been on a B:TR sadly but I know it's alot shorter than Alpengeist.

Great Bear is a shade under 3,000 feet long while Alpengeist is just a couple hundred under 5,000.

The Great Bear is pretty short but it gives a great kick for it's length.

Trailblazer is a mine ride but unlike most mine rides it's fully steel(Arrow track). Like most mine rides it's mostly built around turns and not drops, but it's definetly the worst mine ride I've gone on.

i really like sidewinder, i dont think its rought at all. i have to agree with you that trailblazer is the stupidest ride ever. i've been there 4 times and the last time i went was the first time i have ever even seen the coaster. its so stupid. i disagree with you on wildmouse. its the only wildmouse coaster i've been on and i really thought it was scary.

I have always found Watchamacallits at Chocolate World, so maybe they just needed to restock when you went. It's one of my favorites also.

Sounds like a great park, I can't wait to get out there later this month. I'll be there on the 28th, the day after CoasterMadness at Dorney.

I agree totally except i thought Trailblazer was 1/2 of a point better (wind chill) but still not good at all. I loved the atmosphere there and Comit is SOOOOoooo MUCH FUN AT NIGHT!!!!!!! Hershey has the best collection of wooden coasters of any park i've ever been to. (PKD,SFA,MA,CP,SFGAm. are the only others)
I'm glad you enjoyed my #2 fav. park so far! Coast on man!

Hershey's woodies were great but they're still a mile behind Kennywood in my books...but no matter how much you try it's impossible to beat those classics, but Hershey has come the closest.

Hershey right now resides as my fifth favorite park...which sounds low but it's behind only parks like Cedar Point, Kennywood, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and Islands of Adventure...which is pretty damn good.

It's a matter of taste, I've been on four of them and I've hated them all.

Really? I didn't know that. Also, I have to agree with SFGAdvKing on the wild mouse thing. Tose are terrifying.

Just at HP this past week. I thought I saw Whatchamacallits in Chocolate World. Sorry you missed them. I loved those when they were first introduced. Give me chocolate with most anything more than plain old cholcoate - YUM!

I never realized until this year, how many hills were in the park. Geesh were my legs tired by the end of the day! The wait for The Claw was not long for DH and DD on Wed. they hit it about noon I guess and only had one wait to get on.
