CP 6/17 - 6/19: The trip of breakdowns, great rides, and one huge wait. (Long) After visiting the Point for three days in a row, I can honestly say I had the time of my life. Very little went wrong on this trip that I wasn't expecting and very much went right.
TUES 6/17
I go to Cedar Point with my girlfriend's sister's school. For a trip that normally takes 2:45 by car, we pull out of the school at 6:00 and get there at 10:45. Buses Suck. I stand in line to get my season pass and 20 minutes later I have it. Jena (My GF) and I decide to ride Wicked Twister first since she's never ridden that. She is definitely not as hardcore coaster lover as I am, so I knew that today was going to be a light day.
Wicked Twister (9/10)
Twister is running great this year now that it is up to full speed. The new supports don't hinder the experience at all. We rode the best seat in the house (2nd from back) I do think CP should let people wait for this seat. We got lucky.
After hearing that TTD would be closed today, we wandered down to see it in it's glory. Seeing it in itself is amazing. Then we rode the Corkscrew. Nice, fun, woohoo! After that we hit Magnum
Magnum XL-200 (9/10)
Magnum was one coaster Jena didn't really like even though I love it. We rode it though and I swear that there was more airtime than I ever experienced. Great Ride
We got some subs and nachos at the CP Dragway and took it up in the gradnstands to look at TTD. While we were eating, I saw the fins go down and a train fly by. I just about S*#) myself. A) It was running and B) OH MY GOD is it fast. I asked an employee if it would open and she said not today but hopefully tomorrow.
After lunch we rode Iron Dragon. Nice, relaxing. Then we hopped on the Force
Millennium Force (10/10)
The #1 coaster in the world is still #1. Jena had been on it only once before and she loved it. We sat in row #2. I think this is where she learned I really love these things. MF is still just simply awsome.
We then headed over to Raptor.
Raptor (10/10)
Jena had never ridden front row, and on Inverteds I won't ride anything but. The front row line has been shortened, allowing a lot less people in the front row line. I recommend CP rethink this decision. Regardless, Raptor was running awsome and the crew here is one of the best.
Mantis (8/10)
I gave Mantis my first ride in two years and was pleasantly surprised. It was running much better than I remember. Much more comfortable and more exciting. Jena's 1st ride and she liked it.
Then it was her time. We took a ride on the train (my first in 4 years) and then we went to dinner at Johnny Rocket's. While waiting I won here a stuffed Patrick From Spongebob Squarepants. At JR's, I was the first person ever to order a Mountain Dew Float. It was really good. Really. Stop laughing.
Next she wanted to ride Twister in front. We did and she liked it better than the back. I'm still up in arms. They both are sweet. For desert we grabbed Chocolate Bananas and sat by Dragster. After riding the Cadillac Cars, we called it a night and got back on the bus.
After getting home at 2:30, I got a whole 2.5 hrs of sleep before my friend Bob picked me up at 6. We grabbed my other friend Mike and I made my second trip down I-75 to HWY 2 for the second straight day.
WED 6/18
Even though all the signs said TTD was closed, I was still Optimstic after seeing it run Tues. We hit the Force first (awsome) and then got Freeways for Force and Raptor. Twister was up next. (Front Row Ride) After that was Magnum and all three of us agreed there was more airtime on this puppy this year. Any ideas?
I got a sub and they got Top Chill Snocones and we sat and watched Dragster. Just as we were heading for the front I overheard Dan Keller saying the wanted the ride up today and telling someone it could be within the hour.
We walked up to Raptor only to find out it was down for mechanical reasons. I've never seen Raptor down. It was something with the chain lift. Anyways, we rode Blue Streak, Disaster Transport, and Corkscrew. We then rode PowTow Down and asked to be facing TTD. The guy said OK but then faced us towards the front.
We left to go check in at Breakers Express and grab some food at the East Chicago Pizza buffet. Good deal. Watched some Simpsons and headed back to the park.
We were going to hit Twister before using our Freeways but WT was down for mechanical reasons! Raptor was back up, however, and we had our ceremonial Front row ride. It's so nice w/out the Midcourse breaks on. While walking back to MF, we had to stop for the train. Bob looked thru the trees by Iron Dragon and saw THERE WERE PEOPLE IN THE TTD STATION! We ran to MF and we were out of there in 15 minutes. We jogged/sprinted over to TTD and learned is was open from 6:45 to about 8 and shut down. Dissapointed we rode Magnum, Mantis, and the very last train of the night on Millennium Force while occasionally seeing TTD run with and without riders.
THURS 6/19
After grabbing breakfast at MickeyD's, we headed to the point. Driving up we saw Dragster run and at the tollbooth we were given the piece of paper we were hoping for: TTD is OPEN TODAY! After driving around the point and parking in Challenge Park, we got in the park at nine and made a dead spring for Dragster. The que wasn't open, but we estimated we were about 75-100 people back. Excellent. There was a light drizzle that stopped around 10:15, but we hadn't seen any trains run since we'd been there. They kept saying it was down due to the rain but around 11:00 we stopped buying that. Then they launced about 10 and got our hopes up but didn't launch any after that. They said it was a mechaincal problem due to the rain. Just when all hope is abandonded around 1:15 the thing comes to life. They launch 4 in about five minutes and then open up the que line. When it was all said and done, we were sitting in the red train on the watching the train in front of us go.
Top Thrill Dragster (10/10)
The absolute biggest rush in the entire world. That' how to describe it. Amazing raw speed and one single gargantuan hill make up the most anticipated ride of my life. And every single second of four and a half hours was worth it. This is a must ride, even though it is beaten by the still king Millennium Force.
That ride right there made the entire trip, but aftewards we rode Raptor, Magnum, and Gemini. I don't know if it was our moods or not, but they were all the best rides we'd ever had on each one respectively. We also rode Mean Streak (OW), POWTOW down and finished our trip with a front row epiphany on Millennium Force.
Side Note: The wind was rather forceful on Thursday, shutting Twister down for the whole day and MF and TTD for parts of the day.
Overall, the trip was awsome. Kudos to Cedar Point for continuing to "blow" us away and "rise" to our expectaions.
