| Sfaw 6/19 I decided it was time yet again for a trip to Astroworld. My brother went with me off of a free coupon. I decided to go late afternoon-closing because crowds are usually light then. We got into the park and went to Texas Cyclone first. Since it was a thursday they were only running one train, which should have been fine. But the ride ops were very slow that night.
Problem 1-There were only 2 ops, so the person at the control pannel had to check bars.
Problem 2-The person at the control pannel kept conversing with riders. Not a "how's your day" thing, but more like "hey girl!" and they'd talk about pointless stuff.
Another problem with waiting for this ride was that a couple in front of us kept making out, and they werent discrete AT ALL. When their train arrived I said "look. your limousine has arrived to take you to your room where you can make out as much as you want!" They gave me dirty looks. I waved them goodbye. As for the ride, it wasnt running very well that night. Nothing compared to SpringCon. It was slow around the turns and the airtime was weak. But oh well.
We walked over to Greezed Lightnin after this. On the way we saw that the old entrace to B:TE has been changed into a Build-A-Bear sorta thing. And there goes the rest of the theming..Anyway, Greezy had no line at all, so we went to the back row. Some kids that were on the train that didnt have anyone in their row tried to steal our row, but the ride op saw. The launch was better than I remembered from SpringCon, which is good. Also got some hangtime going backwards through the loop, and the great air on the back spike. This would be a re-ride later that night.
After Greezy we went over to SWAT. Not much of a line on it, but there usually isnt for some reason. Must have pretty good capacity. Anyway, one ride before we got on I noticed it flipped one way 4 times..then kept going after 4 but very slowly. The people got flipped over, then it stopped while they were still inverted. They slowly went back to level and the ride was lowered. A mechanic checked on some stuff and we got in. Great ride as usual, pulling some major Gs at the bottom of the ride.
We got off of SWAT and checked out the line for Diablo Falls, but it was too long for me. So we ate at Wok & Roll, which is probably the best eatery at SFAW. After this we rode Viper in the back row, which was good. This ride was running well tonight also (good night for Schwarzkopfs). There was some good air on the hill after the first turnaround and the turnarounds were throwing you into your riding partner, in a good way.
It was looking like rain just about then, so we decided to walk around, wondering what to go on. Then we made the mistake of getting in line for Serial Thriller. Not much of a wait, but too much for this ride. I knew this was a mistake when we were starting up the lifthill and I heard the trains creaking. It wasnt a good night for Vekoma (but when is it?) There was even headbanging on the drop, which is really bad. I couldnt wait for this ride to be over.
The park was only going to be open for another 30 minutes at this point, so we headed back over to Diablo to see how it was doing. Same long line, so we went to Greezy instead. We took a ride on the back first, got some good hangtime in the loop. We had to get back in line after that, but it was ok. We got in the fourth row. The launch seemed more powerfull up there than in the back. I guess that made up for the lost air and hangtime. We didnt get off the ride for another 3 launched, each one better than the last. After that we called the parents and we went home. Not too bad a trip, really. Texas Cyclone could've been better, but you cant have everything. |
