Big Chief's and the Wisconsin Dells

I'm getting ready for my trip to the Dells tommorow, and I'm warning you in advance of my huge trip report with pics of Big Chief's and Great Wolf Lodge(a huge waterpark resort) and hopefully construction pics of Triton. Plus, you'll get to see lots of pics of me.

Can't wait. Great looking CCIs and Go-Karts. What more would you want? I hope to get over there sometime, it's not too far from where I live.

Its always a fun trip. Big Chief's is awesome and the waterpark at the hotel is better than almost all outdoor waterparks.

I'm back, and I had a great time. I even got a surprise ride on the robocoaster. Expect the whole report in a few days after I get the pics on a disk.

Cool pic. When I was there for my annual trip the only part constructed was the flume portion. I'm glad they finially got the ball rolling on the track portion. I can't wait for your opinions of the coasters though... Zeus is awesome, but that one spot on Cyclops (I'm sure you know the one) has just incredible airtime. Oh, but the Kalihari indoor waterpark is by far better than the Great Wolf (formerly Black Wolf) lodge.

I know Kalarhari is much better, but that was booked solid. I think Great Wolf is the second best, plus we've been there about 3 times already so my family really likes it.

This wouldn't happen to be the part on Cyclops your reffering to, would it?

I'll start day 1 now, but I don't think I'll finish it tonight.

We arrived at Great Wolf Lodge at 3:30 and were greated by a new entrance. That surprised us because it used to be pretty plain, but they added this for kids.

After throwing all our crap in our huge room we made a dash down to the kick ass waterpark. The first section includes a tube slide, two body slides, a kids area, and assorted pools/hot tubs. If you take a left after entering you come to the area they added to keep up with the new hotels being built. The first thing you see is a huge bucket . This thing can really pound you if you stand in the wrong place. Its also common to have some girls have their suits slip off a little bit.

The bucket is part of the gigantic treehouse area that has bunches of water thingies on it and two pretty good body slides on it.

Behind it is a tube slide that goes outside of the building afetr a little bit. In the winter you can feel the temperature difference when you go out.

Great Wolf also has a small outdoor waterpark that includes two very nice body slides . These are definitely the best in the complex.

After spending two and a half hours at the waterpark we went back to the room and prepared to go out for the night.

I'll continue with the rest later, so remember to check back to see when I add my Big Chief's and Robocoaster reviews.

You should probably wait to see if it gets finished, because Big Cheif doesn't follow any timelines or stuff like that.

Day 1 Continued:

We decided to swing by Big Chief's first, even though we knew it would be very crowded. Well, we were right about the crowds. It was the busiest I had ever seen the park, but I was excited to try out the go-karts with that many people on the track. My dad bought a few tickets and told us we weren't staying long because we'd be back in the morning.

The first thing I did was make my way over to the Trojan Horse track. I got up there just as they were filling in the next group of carts so I jumped in along with twenty other people. Usually when I go the place is empty, so this would be my first experience on the track with a good amount of people on it. Well, it started off with some gentle turns, and then went in a huge tunnel to go to the area with the huge trojan horse. It makes tight spirals all the way up and then straightens out for a little before spiraling back down. On the way down, I had a problem. The track is wood, so traction is pretty bad. When I was going down I suddenly saw one cart completely sideways in the middle and one car stuck on the left side. I was about 15ft away when I saw this so I couldn't stop in time so I decided to try and squeeze through on the right because it looked like I could fit if I bumped the side rail a little bit. When I got closer though, I realized just how small the gap was. I didn't have time to stop though, so I tried my best. That didn't work out out well, because because I hit the back end of the sideways car squarely at full speed. The driver of that car and me got a huge jolt out of the collison. Luckily though, I continued on so I didn't get hit in the back by some else coming down. The rest of the race went off without a hitch though, so it all was ok.

Look for the rest in a little bit, but I need to take a rest now.

Sounds really fun. Today I found out that my family is taking a trip to the Dells the 17th 18th and 19th of August, so look for a trip report from me next month!

I then decided to head on over to my buddy Zeus. After waiting about 15 minutes I hopped in a seat towards the front. Look for my backseat review a little later.

The drop out of the station is nice and quick and adds a little excitement. The ascent up the hill is very quick and offers a very nice view of the cheesey Extreme World across the street. Once you reach the top you hit a very sharp turnaround which is different from most of them. You see the whole out run for a little bit before plunging down the steep first drop. The front gets some nice air here, but nothing to write home about. After a small flat section you go up a hill that seems liek it was designed to match Magnum's. It has a very sharp apex and gives some very nice ejector air. After two more hills which offer some very nice air you hit the turnaround, my favorite part of a front seat ride. The hill offers some great ejector air and then takes a very sharp banked turn which causes you to be thrown violently into the right side of the car. After the turn you straighten out and then pull up another hill banked at the top to line you up parrelel to the out run. The drop off this hill is great, and you quickly hit a very tiny hill which was extremely painful. It throws you very upbruptly into the lapbar and I hurt my balls on that. After another airtime hill you make a swooping upward turn into the brakes and go into the station and hit the brakes before going through a second circuit. The second circuit really makes the ride great because you get to experience all the great parts over again without waiting through the line. This is 6th on my top woodies list.

Up next is Cyclops, and "The Drop".

After getting off Zeus I ran straight to Cyclops. After a twenty minute wait and the dissapointment of seeing them following through with the 18 or older in the backseat rule I jumped in the train as far back in it as I could get.

The ride starts with a slow turn to the right out of the station and on to the lift. The ride up is amazingly short because the hill isn't very high of the ground. At the top the train is whipped down an amazing drop for the size. It offers some very good ejector air and can really catch a first time rider off guard. The next hill offers some even better ejector air, but you know its coming unlike the first hill. There is then a swooping banked curve to the left. the train goes up a small descent and then makes a right hand turn before climbimg a little higher to reach the top of "The Drop" . Even if you prepare for whats next you still get surprised by it, and if its your first time I can guarentee you put a death grip on the buzz bar while going down. It straightens out just before the crest and then sharply dives down and to the
right, into a ditch next to a walkway. It then takes a quick turn and rolls into the station. The second cirxuit on this is much less exciting because you are able to prepare for each moment of
insane ejector air. This ride could use some more length, but as it is now its my number 4 woodie.

We then left Big Chief's and went downtown to see all the drunk people on the streets. It was unbelievable to see that many people staggering around. We went back to the hotel around 10 and fell asleep.

WHOA wait a minute, you're saying that there is an age limit on a seat on a coaster? What kinda cheese has big chief's management been eating to make up a rule like that? Do they seriously check for an ID? Is there a sign by the back seat that says WE CARD?
You really emphasize how much air Cyclops has on "the drop", so tell me, does it have even more air than the 60 footer on Raven?

Yes, they do enforce the rule pretty strictly, but they don't card or anything. They just added it last year though, because I went in the back seat 2 years ago.

I've never been on the Raven, but others that have been on both give the edge to Cyclops most of the time for ejector air.

I'll update more this weekend.

Well seeing that he hasn't been on Raven, why would you ask such a question? How the hell would he know? Anyway, the drop does have a lot of airtime. Perhaps setting an age limit on the back seat of a ride is one of the precautions you must take when you don't have insurance. (Yes, its true. Big Chief does not have insurance on their rides. There is a nice little sign that says "Ride at your own risk," and something about not having insurance).

I assume they have the age limit because they feel that older riders would be more responsible.

I got up early in the morning, and went to church at 8:30. After leaving we went back to the hotel to get some more swimming in before checking out. We swam for about an hour, checked out and were on our way to the Robocoaster.

When you first see this thing it looks very odd with the one arm just hanging off the base. I jumped in the seat and the guy pushed down the harness very thightly, which was painful at the time, but I'd thank him for it later.

I had chosen "Raging Bull", the highest setting because I really wanted to see what this baby could do. It started with an abrupt flip backwards, and everything after that I can't really piece together. It was pretty much non-stop flipping and turning. I remeber doing barrel rolls and some weird flips. The harness started to get a little uncomfortable on my crotch, because because it would stop moving quickly and throw you in the harness. If I had more room to move it would have been even worse. All in all, it was a very interesting ride and experience, but I wouldn't pay $9 to ride on that setting again. I would probably try the others out.

Look for the conclusion later this weekend, and some more pics.
