Staying off-site

Please move if this is not the right board.

I'm interested in finding off-site accomodations near Cedar Point. It could be tenting or hotel at less than $70/night during the 3rd or 4th week of August. A place that has pet boarding would be awesome, but arrangements to leave the pooch at home can be made.

I found Breakers Express and I'm willing to pay their rates, but where can I find other nearby hotels or campgrounds?

Breakers Express would be the closest, certainly, but if you go along route 250 (the main thoroughfare in Sandusky), there are literally dozens of different hotels of all chains. Rates vary, of course, but you could find as low as $45-50, depending on the quality you were interested in. I'm afraid I don't know about pet-boarding, however.

I'll move this thread to Travel Tips for you, and hopefully you can get some good leads!

Thanks Melissa. I found a couple of off-site hotels - Bellevue and Dawn to Dusk. Both look clean and recently renovated. Is 18 miles from CP a big deal? For the price we can stay at BE. DtoD doesn't look bad and it's $10 cheaper per night. For camping we'd be looking for a tent site, although I think we prefer a room. For the price though camping is an option.

Dusk til Dawn was kind of Dumpy...

I stayed at the Clarion inn for $72 a night. Its about 10 mins from CP. Its right behind the Sandusky mall and I belive they allow pets to stay there. Indoor pool and all...Was really nice too..

Thank you leeloo1953, for being so nice. Exactly why I posted this. Melissa would have deleted my post if I wasn't permitted to ask.

I have never been to CP and I'm not about to travel 400 miles and not have a clue. Isn't that why most of us visit this site? We come to grt information about places we've never been or help those who have questions about places with which we are familiar.

*** edited to add....sorry AngryDax, you posted at the same time I was. Thanks for the info on Dusk to Dawn. It looked okay, nothing special at all. As long as it's clean, comfortable and quiet I don't have a problem. I'd like to take the dog so I don't have to make arrangements at home, although it's a pretty long trip for him. I just hate to leave him

I think our Australian "buddy" wants to be banned.

IntenseBlue...what hotels have you found so far? I suggest staying away from Comfort Inn and Days Inn. Port-a-potties are better lodgings than those two.

FYI Tobster1
I did search for hotels, but photos can be decieiving, and I wasn't finding as much information as I wanted. I'm not familiar with the area and wanted opinions of hotels and I don't know anyone with first-hand experience to guide me.

You can't judge a hotel by it's picture on a website. The fact that I have no idea what small towns are on the outskirts of Sandusky that might be more reasonably priced and only a short drive away is why I started this thread.

1. I'm not going to respond to the first part of this quote.

2. So far I've got Breakers Express on my mind. $59 after a $10 off coupon I found on CP website isn't out of our price range. I'm finding our budget creeping though as determine how long we'll be at CP and visit other area attractions. Something in the $390$9 rage, that is nearby and clean/comfy would be nice. I don't think I've found anything priced that low. I looked at Dusk to Dawn (or is it Dawn to Dusk?) and Bellevue. At this moment I don't recall a thing about Bellevue and DtoD looked very plain, which is not a bad thing.

We could also camp, but would require a campground for tents.

I also wondered about inexpensive options for boarding our dog. It's not concrete on taking him on such a long trip, but we'll miss him terribly and I'm not sure if I can find a caretaker for 4 days. This may be cause to cancel any plans of going to CP.

Thank you KIND posters of TN. I APPRECIATE your input.

Yeah, whatever you do, DO NOT stay at Dusk to Dawn! I've had friends stay there, and it was nasty!
