SFOG and Carowinds tips

My family and I are going to SFOG and Carowinds in August. It would be a great help if you guys could help with what rides are good, bad and have long lines and anyother tips. Also my parents who are afraid to go on roller coasters have agreed to go one ONE coaster on the trip. Would you guys tell me which ride would scare the $hit out of them.

Thanks

I dont know much about Carowinds but I know a shat load about SFOG.

During August, SFOG is open all the way through the first two weeks then it's only open on weekends. (I would suggest going in the middle of the week)

Deja vu has been running fine lately so hopefully it will be open when you visit. It's one of the best coasters at SFOG. Dont miss GA Cyclone, it's amazing. Don't leave your lap bar up too high though, I almost fell out last weekend.......no joke.

GASM has amazing air time, S:UF (IMO) is not very intense but it's still good, Mind Bender is awesome and is one of the top 25 steel coasters in the world.......according to Golden Ticket Awards. Scorcher, I think, is the best stand-up coaster. Yes, even better than Riddler's Revenge. It has something that the others dont have, air time and amazing G's.

If you want to scare the crap out of your parents than take them for a ride on Acrophobia. If there scared of coasters than theres not a good chance your going to get them to ride it. It took me two months to ride it when it first opened because I was so scared, that was even after I rode MF.

Here is a good video of SFOG:

Here is the Unofficial SFOG site and should answer most of your questions. http://playride.com/tug2sfog/index.html

Carowinds will be pretty busy in aug. Well it depends on what day your visiting. Top Gun & BORG will have the longest lines but those are the 2 coasters you have to ride. If you have time i would say hit all coasters but if not i would skip Scooby-Doo & Rugrats Reptar. If i were you i would put your parents on either one of the flying coasters Borg or Superman. I would highly recomend Borg, it's so much better that SUF. Is this a weekend trip or a weekday trip?

I've been to both parks mutiple times... Of course since Carowinds is my home park, I've been there too many times to count... I digress

Carowinds

Get your tickets online for $29.99 instead of $42.99 at the gate, or if you're an ACE member I think you get in for half price!

My advise, go to North(front) gate first. Borg is sitting right near the front gate. If you go on a weekend, hit Borg first, just in case it breaks down later, or there's a really bad que.

I've always heard that people go around parks clockwise, so best bet is to go counter-clockwise.

After Borg, head on over to the back of the park, hit Thunder Road, Top Gun, etc. Also, if you have small kids you'll pass right by the kids section(s).

If the park is busy, I would advise hitting these coasters next, Hurler, Goldrusher, Ricochet, Cyclone, Vortex, in that order.

There's a Wendy's and some other fast food located at the front entrance to the park. My advice, eat there for your meals, it will save you a lot of money.

And a final word on Carowinds, when leaving for the day, if the traffic is terrible, exit in the FAR RIGHT LANE. You can go down and make a u-turn, or you can actually drive down about 2 lights, turn right on S. Tryon Street (Hwy 49), and drive a couple miles, and you'll come back to I-485. A right on 485 will take you back to I-77.

It will save you a lot of time if traffic is bad getting out.

SFOG

There's only one entrance (grrrrr), my advise hit Georgia Cyclone first (right by the gate), it seems to get busy later in the day. Then head right towards the back of the park for Superman. If the lines are like they were in 2002, you want to get on it early. There's hardly any shade, and it gets HOT at SFOG!!!

Most of the other coasters are all worth hitting, my favorites at Cyclone, Superman, Scorcher (my fav. standup) Batman, Mindbender, Scream Machine, Deja Vu and if you've hit all those, THEN ride Ninja. It gives you a headache sometimes.

Also, on food, if you drive out of the park, and take a LEFT, your first right there's a little side street, and there's Wendy's up there. (notice a pattern here) lol

As far as hotels, DO NOT stay at the La Quinta on that exit, We had a terrible experience. There's a new Country Inns and Sweets 1 exit West of Six Flags. I didn't stay there yet, but it looks much nicer. And there's more stuff on that exit too.

I don't know about discounts for SF, but check with AAA if you have AAA.

Have fun!

Oh yeah. You can do everything at both parks in 2 days. The longest wait you'll have at Carowinds will be for Borg and that only at about an hour and a half. Everything else ranges from a walk on to 20 min. Superman will be your longest wait at SF as well but i doubt everything else will be a walk on. If it's really busy get a Qbot.

You can get discounted Six Flags tickets ($24.99) at any Publix within about 150 of Six Flags. I assume that you know what a Publix is since you're from Florida, but just in case, Publix is the grocery store with a big, green P logo. Also, if you're going for 2 days, buy a sport quart cup: $1 dollar refills. (ask for no ice since its cold anyway: no ice= more drink). That's all I can think of right now, PM if you have any questions.

It will do neither. Your in more of a sitting position than you are a standing position.

Actually, most people head to the RIGHT (counter-clockwise) when they enter an amusement park, going left usually provides some advantage. This trick works best at parks like Disney's Magic Kingdom, where there are masses of people who really don't know what ride there headed for, so they generally just start walking to the right.

The people complaining about Acrophobia are just messing with you- it doesn't hurt at all, although it is pretty frightening.
