Animal Kingdom Lodge

Well our plans got changed, and we are deciding to go to take a trip to Disney. We are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We got a GREAT discount since we are meeting up with my Grandma, who is a Florida resident. We got a good deal at $135 per night. So has anyone stayed here before? I think it is susposed to be one of the better hotels. So anyone who visited here, share your experiences.

And I believe we are getting the 4 day park pass.

Well, I didn't stay at the hotel (rooms not big enough), but my family did check it out when we were down there last. It was really an amazingly cool hotel, there was so much detail inside. The animal thing was pretty cool too, especially if you are staying in a room with a balcony facing it.

What a coincidence, I was just there last week for three days. Personally, I liked Disney's Wilderness Lodge much better (stayed there for a week two years ago), because you had several options for transportation, two pools, and a beach. And I liked the atmosphere better. But the Animal Kingdom Lodge was still amazing in its own right. I had a pool view room, and unless you like screaming kids, I don't recommend anyone get a pool view room lol. The savana rooms are amazing though. I went to the stairs to get some pictures of the animals, and no lie, the rooms are sitting right on the savana. I mean, these two Greater Kudus were "playing" (or fighting, anyhow they were butting heads) about twenty feet from the balconies of the rooms. It was very cool. I got plenty of pictures and would post some, but they aren't finished until Friday. Well, besides the awesome view with the animals, other attractions at the hotel include a nicely themed pool. It has a small slide (not as elaborate as the Beach and Yacht Club's Waterpark) but it is still fun. There are two spas, and three restaurants, the only one of which I visited was the Mara. Their prices are reasonable (A large pizza with the works was $18.99 *I believe*), and they also have salads, hamburgers, drinks, pastries, and snacks. If you are traveling with smaller kids, there is a daycare (Simba's Playhouse) which is open late afternoons and evenings. I don't have children, but I was going to the pool and it caught my attention. They were doing some cool stuff in there, I wanted to join them lol. I know I mentioned transportation before for Wilderness Lodge; well, for AK Lodge, the only transportation to the parks (besides your own car, of course) is the bus. It is the only resort on Disney property that does not have a second form of transportation. If this is your first time going to Disney, or if you haven't been in a while, some fun stuff to do is visit the Boardwalk (located near the Beach and Yacht Club and the Boardwalk Inn). It is free just to look around, and the view is awesome. There are some shops, an arcade, and a few restaurants there. To get there, you have to board a bus from a park, because buses don't travel from resort to resort. Also, check out Downtown Disney. It is also free to look around there, and you could probably spend a good half a day just going in shops and looking around. Disney Quest, a five-story arcade, is in Downtown Disney, and it is only like $28 for the whole day. It is pretty fun, and it has a cheesecake factory express in it. Reason enough to go! LOL. Also, don't foget the waterparks, and if you are interested, there are two mini-golf courses (one located in front of Blizzard Beach, the other in front of the Swan and Dolphin). Phew! My hands are getting tired from typing lol. If you have any questions you can PM me, or ask them on here. I will try to get back to you ASAP. I hope you have fun!!

I've been to Disney, but it was a long time ago. We are visiting AK, Epcot, and MK I believe. And thanks for posting that information. When you get pictures, I'll be sure to look.

The first picture is of the two Greater Kudos "playing," taken from the fourth or fifth balcony level (on the fire escape, lol). There are balconies directly to the right of the picture- those people are sitting right on top of the savanna.

The second picture is from my balcony, which was on the fifth floor. I awoke to noisy kids every day in the pool, and went to sleep to noisy kids every night at the pool. It was still very scenic.

The next picture is of the front of the building, well, part of it. I had to crop down everything to fit it on here. Some of these pictures looked awesome before I had to crop them down to nothing. But anyway, this is where the lobby and valet parking are located.

The next picture is of one of the savannas, with large horned animals (I don't remember what those are). There are these little boardwalk-like areas where you walk to see the animals up close, and animal guides are avaliable in the area to answer any questions and talk about the animals.

This last picture was the best picture I had (but again, I had to crop it ). The pool is to the left in this picture, and a small river with flamingos reside here. It is very scenic, and very beautiful at night.

I have some more pictures, but most of them are of the animals that are very far away. I will post them if you would like though!

Those are nice pictures. If you had any of the actual hotel (inside, rooms, etc) then you can post them if you want. Thanks for giving me an idea of what it looks like.

my family is a DVC (disney vacation club) members, so we go to Disney every year.. we never stayed there (not enough points) but we did go there for dinner one night.. it was really really good.. the only complaint i would have about it is its soo far away from EPCOT, MGM, and Magic Kingdom.. but then again there are the shuttles so just take those.. the best part about the hotel is the animals.. yeah.. thats about it.. have fun and enjoy your trip!

p.s- http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw...omsListingPage there might be some pics there that might help you
