July 4th at Cedar Point

[Sorry if this is a repeat thread]
I plan on going to CP for a whole week this year ... June 27 - July 4th. As the plans are now, we are leaving the 4th (thats when the condo rental ends). I'm not trying to ask a typical 'is it crowded on the 4th' thing (I assume its really really crowded). Anyway, based on the show, do you think its worth it for me to get a hotel for the night of the 4th? Take into account that this means driving home on the 5th (6 hours...plus I assume that traffic will be horrible) and getting a hotel for a night. I don't think it's worht it, but I've never been to the CP firework show and don't know what its like, so I'm just looking for some opinions. Thanks!!

I would stay the extra night imo. It will be verycrowded but if you have never seen a fireworks/laser show at CP then i would highly recommend it.

Just barely (by my judgment) this is asking for tips, hence the move.

You should be fine getting a hotel room the night of the 4th (the further from the point the cheaper) as the 4th IS on a Sunday. Then again...

July 4th had a good crowd last year, but not that bad---not as bad as people would think. From what I heard, July 5th last year was probably the best day of the year to go. Several employees told me I missed a great day. Oh well. July 6th was also a great day---not the least bit busy.

As for the fireworks, I wouldn't stay just to see that. I will admit though, that from the Magnum (and a few other rides) you can see several firework displays from the various islands/surrounding areas and that is pretty cool.

How about this....instead of finishing on or the day after July 4th, start off closer to July 4th and stay the rest of that week. That way you would be there for the firework show without having to pay another hotel fee. Just a thought.

Sounds like a good trip you got planned, FlyInBack. I was at Cedar Point last year on the 4th. It was somehwhat crowded, but not horrible. Although, I don't know too well since most of my day was spent waiting in line for TTD to open up which took a while that day .

The fireworks/lazer show was great on the 4th, very moving if you're patriotic like myself. I love the song "Proud to be an American", when I've been at sporting events that have played that, it always gets me. It's even better when they have very patriotic images on the screen to go along with the music. Everything about the fireworks/lazer show was amazing.

I thought the fireworks show was pretty good the few times I've been there on the 4th. I suggest you spend the night over there at one of the hotels that are a few miles away from the point. I was there until 2:00 AM last year getting out of the parking lot (Although I was in the soak city parking lot).

Rob - Good idea (about starting the week vacation later), but the rental is Sun-Sun (didn't have much of an option there). It does sound like, though, it's at least worth viewing the firework show once. I can probably find a room for a fairly cheap rate (b/c I really don't mind hwo far it is from the point). Thanks for all the info guys!
