| Geauga Lake May 19, 2004 (Physics Day) My school was invited to participate in Physics Day and so because of this, I got a chance to visit Geauga Lake yesterday.
I arrived at the park around 10:30 and it was drizzling outside. In the morining every coaster except the bobs and Big Dipper were operating. I got my 'physics' stuff taken care of in fifteen minutes and I was off to the rides! They really need to take care of the drainage problem in the Double Loop queue. In case you don't know, right now it is impossible to get to the ride without wading through three inches of water. Nothing like getting your feet wet without reason. Double Loop ran one train, but that was all that was necessary. It ran as smooth as ever.
With everyone in the park busily doing calculations on the coasters, I went with a group of my friends on Grizzly Run. My group was the only one on the ride. I got drenched, but all was good luckily as the sun came out soon after. Dominator was a 10 minute wait which was certainly bearable. Power City Theatre was being transformed into a 'xtreme sports arena'. A large ramp was being worked on today.
Excited to see Steel Venom running, I crossed over to the opposite end of the park to see that the holding brake was still working. I had a great ride on SV. It did not feel underpowered at all. I took a ride on Head Spin just for kicks only to find out that it still is a headache. Big Dipper opened in the afternoon when the sun came out, but its line was a bit long for me so I passed on it and went on to the Villain and later X-Flight to get a couple of great rides with my friends.
All in all it was a great day. Some of my observations include seeing a new "Kidworks Playzone" sign by the entrance to boomtown. A 'Pepsi Plunge' sign was placed on the Cuyahoga River Mining Company. Dominator T-Shirts are now sold in the Dominator Gift Shop (they only had SV and Thunderhawk ones on opening day). Plaques are hung up all over the place advertising the new shows that are coming soon. New nice printed maps are being handed out. On them it states that Hook's Lagoon and the Stingray Wet Slides will be closed for renovation in 2004. That's kind of a bummer, but it'd be nice if the Stingray slides had some work done on them to make them a little more gentle to the back. NASA had a couple stations set up with representatives giving small lectures on physics. As I left, I heard the new Geauga Lake jingle for the first time. I didn't have time to listen to all of it, but found it kind of weird.
Overall, it's nice to see that the park is improving, even during the regular season.
If anyone is interested, I have some pics up on WoA Guide!. |
