Sfog 6/3/04

I got to the park right around 1 pm. My associates wanted to move up the meeting to 4:30 pm, so I only had 3 hours. ALso, the parking was $12.00. That was expensive! Oh well. I guess they can really get you there.

I noticed Georgia Cyclone from the parking lot. This ride was near the front, so I headed over there first.

Georgia Cyclone (7/10): This woody was a clone of CI Cyclone hence the name. After about 10 minutes wait, I got on 4:2. There were some decent airtime after the second turn around. The ride was rather shaky and some areas did not track well at all.

I noticed that Acrophobia is closed! ALso, Deja Vu looked like it was not running either. Well, I decided then to go for all the coasters.

Dahlonega Mine Train (6/10): This was a mine ride with THREE lift hills. Interesting layout with a tunnel ending was pretty satisfying.

Well, I decided to head over to the back of the park for three coaster rides. Since it was on the way, I got on Ninja.

Ninja (6/10): This Vekoma looper looked better than the ride itself. After a good first drop, the ride all of sudden started to track rather hard. There were some rough transitions during the second half of the ride.

Superman Ultimate Flight (9/10): I thought this was the best coaster in the park. Then again, this was my first flier so that I could have been overly impressed with this. Even with slow loading, I was able to get on to the trains in 30 minutes. I loved the pretzel (?) run near the camera. I need to ride more fliers for comparison, but this had a positive impression on me.

Great American Scream Machine (8/10): These old woodies almost always provide good airtime. This was no exception. In fact, I liked this one more than Georgia Cyclone. This down and out woody was quite enjoyable.

I had 5 coasters in the books by 2:30 pm. I knew by now that I was going to be able to get on all the coasters. I headed toward the Gotham City area. I noticed that Deja Vu was still closed. This was second time I missed out on Deja Vu. This coaster was not open during my trip to SFMM in February.

Batman the Ride (8/10): I LOVE inverted coasters. This was quite good as well although not as good as Raptor or Montu. I was not sure if this was an exact clone of Batman at SFMM. (Does anyone know?) It felt like they are identical. I did not really like the entrance que for the ride however. I waited about 15 minutes for the ride. They were long and enclosed parts were stuffy and uncomfortable.

Mind Bender was right next to Batman so I went over there.

Mind Bender (8/10): Now this one was better than I expected. I loved the hanging effect at the top of the lift hill. Interestingly, SF literature claimed 3 inversions but there were only two. May be the banked turn around was counted as one. This felt like a terrain coaster. This was much more enjoyable than Ninja.

Well, I headed over to Georgia Scorcher.

Georgia Scorcher (7/10): While I am not a fan of stand up coasters, I really liked Riddler's Revenge. GS did not quite lived up to RR but I liked this one more so than Mantis at Cedar Point. The wait was only about 5 minutes. It seemed that many people were afraid to ride this one.

I headed over to Georgia Cyclone again to end the day. I thought maybe I got a bad first ride on this. Well, my second ride was worse than the first. I ride SoB at PKI often. GS tracked far worse than any SoB ride I have ever had.

It was close to 4 pm. I decided to head over to the meeting in Atlanta. I enjoyed the park, but I thought there was something missing. The park was relatively clean and not overly busy. It seemed like ride operators did not really want to interact with guests. I usually see some interactions but I did not see to many here. I thought this was somewhat odd. Anyway, I wished I had more time here but was satisfied with my trip.

The problem was that you sat somewhere except the back. Cyclone is definitely a back seat ride.

All the BTR's at all SF parks are identical (I think the NJ park has a mirrored clone). And yes, the tunnels in line suck.

The park claims it has three loops (which it technically does but no one really calls it a loop), not three inversions.

I dont think an overbanked turn would count as an inversion. But hey, its normal sometimes for parks to stretch the truth so they can fool the general public (not the member here).

Well, they're not counting it as an inversion... just as a loop (which technically it is). It's not an overbanked turn.

Of course, to me and everyone else, it has two "real" loops.

I agree with GP about the back of Cyclone. Sure it's a little rough on the back half of the ride, but the airtime more than makes up for it. Sidenote: are you kidding about GC being rougher than SOB? Cause I found that hilarious.

Actually, I am serious. I do not think I have ever had a ride like GC on SoB. I never really thought SoB is "rough" but I know they can be somewhat bouncy. GC was not really bouncy but the trains rattled far more so than SoB.

Rustbelt, you should have ridden Cyclone in the very front and very back. You need to brace yourself on the whole ride in the back, as you also need to brace the whole ride on Ninja. Sounds like you had a good time for only 3 hours.
