| Carowinds 8/2/05 Well we went to Carowinds just 1 day after gettting back from an awesome trip to MI and MiA (check out the TR). We left GA at about 8:30 and arrived at Carowinds a little before 12. Of course, I had to get my Top Gun on, so we headed back and grabbed a front seat ride 3rd row ride and 4th row ride. It was, of course, the awesomerness. I found that in the middle seats of rows 3-5 you get massive air from the "0g" roll, which usually for inverts just whips you around.
After TG, I rode TR-Backwards 3 times and Forwards twice. There is some nice air all the way out, but the ride is dead from the turnaround to the final brakes. Then we rode RRR for my brother's coaster credit (it still sucks, it was rough on it's 3rd day of operation in the front). After that, it was time for us to get assimilated for the first time. After a long wait (about 45 minutes), we got on the front seat of Borg and then followed that up with two re-rides (open seats). I'll rate this one because it was my first time on it:
Borg: 6.5/10
Pros:
-Longer than S:UF (length and ride time)
-Fairly smooth, especially in the middle rows
-Fun ride up to the double corkscrew
-Shaded line
-Smooth when you are on your stomach
Cons:
-Long line
-Really, Really sloooooooowwwww ride ops
-Retarded padding of the seats (there are gaps of an inch down the center, and it's not to cofortable when you are on your back)
-Stupid lift facing the sun (cover it or something, geez)
-Outer seats vibrate terribly
-Double corkscrew
-Brake run shade thingy doesn't work in row 2 or 4
Yeah, Borg is definately overrated. I'd take S:UF anyday over it. After that we ate lunch at Chick-Fil-A and ate quickly before they started the godawful sing-a-long program. We headed over to Vortex, and took a front seat ride, which was terribly rough. The train vibrated the entire time. All Carowinds needs to do is buy this ride new trains and it would be a great ride. We then took 3 rides on Ricochet, which was running trimless until the brake before the bunny hop/on-ride picture area. The laterals and airtime were fantastic. Then, it was on to Hurler, where I got 3 rides, none of which were good. This ride used to be a fairly smooth airtime monster, but now it just beats the crap out of you with it's terrible transitions and bad trackwork.
Then, it was time for a fall on DZ, which, like every other ride in the park except Borg, had no line. After DZ (not nearly as good as Acro), we took a front seat ride on Carolina Cyclone. Yummy, a crappy old Arrow, doesn't get any better than that. After getting beat up by CC and riding Goldrusher (pretty good little Arrow mine train, I might add), we headed over to Flying Super Saturator, which had not been waterized from 10-5 (the hottest part of the day), but was now waterized at 5 o'clock. This, of course, drew a huge crowd to it, but luckily I was out of the splash zone after only getting hit once. Everyone on our car released their water at the exact same time and the entire queue got soaked. We then headed over to Danny Phantom's Flyers, which were fairly difficult to whip (and it was a short ride time). After that, I took two rides on Ghoster Coaster in the very back, which actually gave some nice air. Ghoster Coaster (errr....Fairly Odd Coaster, that's a dumb name) is identical to Zach's Zoomer at MiA, which I also enjoyed. Then I went over to Taxi Jam but I was told I was too tall, even though the sign said you had to be over 36" and the ride was abandoned.
It was time for more Top Gun, and I got 9 consecutive rides until a ride-op told me that 2-time Tuesdays meant you only got two rides, but I tried to explain that I wasn't taking anyone's seat, I was simply hopping in all of the empty seats (not to mention the fact that I don't own a Paramount SP). Of course he didn't get it, so that was my last ride for a while, what a n00b. Then I rode Spongbob 3-d and TR 3 times Forwards. Lastly, I rode TG in the front for my last ride of the day. I ran down to Borg and saw that the line was closed, but other rides around it were operating, so I figured it was still open and uhhhhhh.......hopped the fence to the line. Once I got in the line, I found out the ride was broken down (big surprise) and I decided to wait it out. In 10 minutes there were less than 10 people left in line and they still didn't have a timeline for when it would re-open, so I left the line and left the park. Overall, I had a great day and got a ton of rides in 8 hours.
Ride Count:
TG-13
TR:F-5
TR:B-3
Borg-3
Hurler-3
Ricochet-3
Ghoster Coaster-2
Spongebob 3-d-1
DZ-1

40 rides total.
