| | | Kingda Ka! 8/8/05 i got home from work at 2:00 and me and my friend decided to go to gadv to try to finally ride kingda ka. we left my house at 3:00 and got to the park at 4:00. even though it was the middle of the day, we ran right to kingda ka.
we took the ticket the op was giving out and stopped walking through the queue at 4:11 which was right in the middle of the switchbacks next to the launch track. i was very suprised how short the line was. at 4:40 (yes, 29 minutes later) we were second in line for the 5th row of the green train. we were pumped. the ride broke down. we waited it out. 45 minutes later the op gets on the speaker and says "the machanics are about to get the ride back up but due to rain, it will be shut down, you are welcome to wait in line untill it reopens" most people waited including us. we waited, and more people left leaving only the first four rows of the train having people in line for them with us moved to the third row (first row of second car). thank god they didnt clear the line because i would not leave the station unless they made us, I WAS GOING TO RIDE KINDA KA. we waited more, talking to some ride ops and a couple next to us and at 7:00 the rain stopped, they sent a few trains out and we finally got on, 3 hours after waiting. we were the first in line on the first row of the second car of the green train which was the back train on the red side of the station. since all four trains loaded at the same time, they sent out the other side first so even though we were the first in line, we still had to wait for 3 trains to launch in front of us. the second train to launch rolled back. that took another 5 minutes to re-launch them so we were sitting in our train for a good 10 minutes. finally, it was our turn to launch...
WOW, that thing is ******ing fast! i was a tad bit dissapointed in the ride though. it was VERY shaky which was unexpected since i heard the front of the train is smoother and the tophat is over so quickly you barely have any time to notice how high you really are. the best thing is obviously the speed. im assuming the launch was the "pulse launch" since thats what it felt like and i didnt care for that either, i would prefer the single tug launch but i've never tried it. so we got off and got right back on, this time being in line right to the switchbacks, but not using any of them. this time the line was only 15 minutes. we got on the other side of the station in the same row as before in the orange train. same ride as before.
after that the line looked a little longer so we went to medusa which had a line just inside the station and waited 10 minutes for the front row. after ka, this was nothing. then we went to gasm which had a station consisting of a few ride ops and a few people waiting for the front row. we got on the second row for a pretty good ride and then went home.
the first wait for kingda ka was very frustrating since the line was only 30 minutes but ended up waiting 3 hours. it was just too bad because the one time that it really had a short line, it had to rain and breakdown. i still got two rides in a little over 3 hours which is a hell of a lot better than some other people so i guess its ok. we didnt even go to the right side of the fountain so i dont know what was going on over there. not a bad overall day.

| | | I figured that was the reason, Just asking. I'm sure if it didn't shut down for rain there would still be 3 hours worth of people wanting to ride in the rain. I'm sure they would regret it later so it's cool the shut down for rain.

| | | I think I caught the jist of that, but just because the coaster was down when you went to the park doesn't mean that the park sucks. If you did any research, you'd know that KK was down because it was getting fixed...or would you rather ride broken down rides? Dugie?

Not that I'm a SF fan or anything, but I see it as a bit overboard and I'm sure other members will express that very clearly....
Glad you were able to ride KK! |

| | | Rain on Great Bear at 50/60 mph was hard but manageable.
Rain on NITRO at 80 mph began to hurt the cheeks.
Rain on Kingda Ka I can't imagine how excruciating that could be.

On Steel Force, a somewhat heavy rain HURTS..and that's only at 70 mph. I would hate to feel that kind of rain at 128 mph.
